I wonder what the truth of this is? (nothing else of importance in the new mail article)
I'd of thought there were set rates the tax authorities allow per night in a london hotel and it would be a simple thing to cap it at that. £2000 a night is excessive. Although those expenses are the thin end of the wedge with all the legal fees that can't be disuputed.
My guess would be Rooney trying to annoy her, which is fair enough

The cost claim is progressing to a detailed assessment hearing, which is a normal process if the cost bill cannot be agreed between the parties.
The article is not entirely accurate, the quoted judge is a senior costs judge and the hearing will take place in the Senior Costs Court Office (which is part of the HIgh Court, but not exactly the High Court).
The DM will have seen it listed on the court's website:
8. Senior Courts Costs Office Daily Cause List
Hearings in the Senior Courts Costs Office will be held in person unless the notice of hearing has directed otherwise. Any media representative or member of the public wishing to attend a remote hearing should provide an email address to be sent an appropriate link for access. Please contact

Those lawyers are accustomed to a particular way of life, coleen was always going to hire the best lawyer in this case.
Rebekah should realise she is now reaping what she has sown. Should never have gone to court in the first place.
she simply can’t afford it, so shouldn’t have started the fight!
The lawyer's way of life is irrelevant for the assessment of the cost bill, as the court will only allow items on the cost bill that are relevant to the claim, and Mr David Sherborne's 5 o'clock martini will certainly not be allowed.
The courts do not care for glamour and luxuries.
The court will also only allow a maximum hourly rate for the lawyers, but have the power to give a bit of leeway. The guidance rates are posted on the court's website.
If Coleen decides to hire a more expensive lawyer than she will have to pay the difference herself.
Depending on what the cost order says the cost bill will be reduced between 20% and 40% , maybe even more if there are a lot of expensive expenses on the bill.
Colleen will also be restricted by the cost budget that her lawyers will have handed in at the time.
As ludicrous as her initial claim was (and it was completely stupid from her to go to court and she totally embarrassed herself), but in this case Rebekah is right to question the bill. Although it is another expensive court process.
