Loads of people are obsessed with having new builds, especially influencers and most people on social media. But doesn't have to be a period property either. Nothing wrong with a standard housing estate. Round my way there is quite literally years waiting lists to buy on new build estates where the cheapest 1 bed flat is £300k, it's just madness!

I associate new builds with the fiat 500 crowd

housing estates are new builds though? You have your council estates which are often actually really well built homes but not that aesthetically pleasing. I don’t know anyone who would turn their nose up at them but they usually aren’t on the market because 1. Right to buy and 2. They are still social housing.

new build housing estates are the same as a new build. Nothing wrong with them but they do give me Fiat 500 vibes and I always picture them with grey paint, a velvet sofa and mirrored furniture. I don’t think people are obsessed with them, it’s just that for so many people they are the only housing purchase option available to them.

I empathise with you. I am the same age as you and have just scored highly in a pre-test. All the difficulties I have had over the years and nobody connected the dots. My mental health is shot, I have had anxiety since childhood and now you get these influencers saying that have anxiety because it’s now a “buzz” word. 😡

I scored highly for an Autism pre-test. Sorry I should have proof read. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Yorkshire puddings have no place on a Christmas dinner, same goes with peas too! There I said it! Come at me with your pitch forks lol 😆

The people have spoken... 🤪

I have a new build and my decor is very much not like that but it made me laugh as some of my neigbours' flats are exactly like that :ROFLMAO: There are good things about them (mine is very well insulated for example so I save a lot on heating) but as people have said they are shoddily built. Because I had to use shared ownership to buy though the only options for me were new build

Body positivity is just a way to cover up and not address the real health implications of being overweight.

Totally agree with this. I've seen these types of conversations lately

Person 1. I've put on a lot of weight and don't feel good

Person 2. But who cares! You're happy! Don't listen to society

I don't understand why someone would actively talk someone out of trying to do something to feel better about themselves.

The dangers of tanning, not just on sunbeds, need to be preached about more. There's no such thing as a safe sun tan unless it comes from a bottle.

It seems to be so common place as a holiday "pass time" I legitimately have been asked before, by a couple of people, why I bother travelling to hot countries if I have no interest in tanning (I'm red haired and incredibly pale). "Oh just to see the history, culture, scenery, food you know, nothing much..."

Charities don't want whatever it is they are affiliated with to be cured because they will then not be able to con you out of your money to pay their shareholders The majority of charities are a con and governments love them because they save them a vast amount of money
I cry at some of those animal and kids charity adverts and would love to give but then I think it's just going to the boss. They're businesses now 🤷‍♀️

Back in the 90s they were well made and had decent sized but now? It’s horrendous! On the estate I live in they didn’t even use front doors for the front doors, just just put interior doors up instead. So now there is an issue with everyone replacing their doors because they aren’t sturdy enough to protect from the weather, etc.

yeah I have had a similar issue with mine and it is not at all old. I have friends in older buildings (including ex council) that are just SO much better built

One of my work colleagues goes on sunbed before going on holiday and says it's good for his skin as it gets it used to the stronger sun abroad 😂

my parents house bought in the 90s was a new build. It was so well designed and well built. Part of a small building programme by a local developer who actually cared about a reputation. He even gave gifts of flowers and a commemorative vase to all of the residents. That kind of attention to detail and personal investment is unheard of now on property development.

It’s criminal the boxes they are allowed to throw up now and charge £500K for.

at least new builds are warm, I’ll give you that. As I shiver in my victorian property over the winter months and wonder if the (now non functional but original) period fireplaces are worth it, I do sometimes dream of cosy good insulation.

The day in a teacher goes like this
8am - 3pm Teach 4-5 periods a day + tutor time + break and lunch duties.

Break is 15 mins and lunch is 25, during which you often have to move classrooms, set up lessons, get books out.

3-4pm At least an hour a day for various department/pastoral/parents meetings

4 - 5.30pm Each lesson / resources for the next day takes at least 20mins to prepare

At least another hour or two responding to emails, chasing other people, printing resources, marking and checking homeworks, following up and issuing detentions, contacting parents, writing reports and data input and every unit needs to have an assessment that is marked and recorded. Not to mention at least once every 3-4 weeks various whole school meetings, open evenings and parents evening when you work 12 hours at least.

I've worked as secondary teacher for 7 years and I rarely leave work before 6pm, I get to school before 8am. Now that we have kids my husband comes home at 5pm but works between 8and 10pm every single day. We get a lot of holidays, and it's really great, but it's a bloody though job in the term time.

Teacher bashing really does come from people thinking that once the lessons are taught that's it but all the admin around and the lesson planning is double the amount of work. Like the NHS, schools tend to be badly run with so much unnecessary paperwork and pointless admin.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love teaching but the misconceptions out there are wild!

Becoming a primary school teacher is the career path of choice for people who just can’t be arsed to think of anything else.

teachers get a ridiculous amount of time off and do very little for what they get paid and yet do
Nothing but moan & complain about how over worked they are.

social media isn’t the root of all evil. If someone feels peer pressure because of social media, thats down to their own personal insecurity and would manifest in other ways if social media didn’t exist. Peer pressure exists without social media. It’s a lazy scapegoat for the unintelligent and unimaginative.

I mean like the housing estates built in the 70s/80s/90s, not new build estates
