The reason largely for abolishing it (not on either side of reinstating just being objective) was due to executing the wrong person, in the weeks after the abolishment of it was when Ian Brady and Myra Hindley were sentenced so they escaped being hung/executed. Had they been executed, which they more than likely would have, they wouldn't have ever found where Pauline Reade and the rest were (minus of course Keith Bennet, when his mother Winnie died not knowing the location of his grave on the Moors still isn't known and I dont think it'll ever be found).

I used to know Winnie. Her bacon barms were the stuff of legend in the hospital canteen. So sad she died without knowing where her boy was laid to rest but she said she knew he’d be waiting for her when her time came. I’d like to think she’s right and she and Keith are reunited.
 
Some people use their child's additional needs to cop out of parenting. My child has SEN delays and is awaiting assesments they get violent so i appreciate you often cant help their behavior its hard work. However if we are at soft play or around other children I make sure Im there to prevent incidents and intervene I have been around some people that just allow their children to take toys from others and hurt them without even bothering to try and prevent the situation. I get so upset when nursery say my child has lashed out at another I really cant understand how some people just dont care enough to be pro active in situations.

You start getting situations where people who look similar to a criminal are mistakenly targeted, or people are accused of something despite there being evidence and people encourage others to go after them.

Some sentences should be tougher but that doesn't justify vigilantes.
 
Ok I’m not sure how much people might come at me for this but……. As much as I’m all for representation in the media I think now it’s way way way to forced and not natural and organic as a mixed raced women I feel I can tell tokenism (if that’s a word very well)
Every family in an advert has a black and white parent , the child is always a mixed child , and same now for “plus size” I am a size 18 but I can’t stand it when you can really tell shops feel forced to do it rather them wanting to.. a tell tell sign is purely when the plus range looks like tit!!!
I actually miss the days of true supermodels !!! Proper naturally beautiful women from the 90’s …. Every major brand has (and I’m really sorry to say ) really not attractive very very average models!! It’s ok to be pretty and have a banging body I still want to see beautiful aspirational models along with the average joe!!! This world Today just loves a reason to cry discrimination 😬

No ,but I can sympathise when you see the scum that’s allowed back onto the streets after committing the most abhorrent crimes .

Brilliant post - 95% of people I know over a certain age (I'm 51) say why can't we have an advert with a white family, 2 kids (not one that's ginger 🙄) it's insulting that every couple is mixed race and/or gay. I'm not writing this to offend but I've stopped paying attention to what's actually being advertised just counting how many boxes have been ticked.

Capital punishment has gone the way of the dodo, which is where it should be in my opinion. What if people get wrongfully convicted? Are you gonna revive their corpse?

But that notwithstanding, I think making criminals spend a very long time in prison is a better punishment than killing them - which is technically an early release from their sentence.

It also doesn't make logical sense. "Let's show society that killing is wrong by killing someone". 🤪

It's rare to get an unsafe conviction nowadays with the advancement in forensics and DNA .
 
The case of Derek Bentley is an interesting one to read up re: capital punishment/death penalty.

I hate to say that I am definitely on the fence with the death penalty. On one hand, I believe an eye for an eye and a life for a life. Don’t want my taxes going on feeding and sheltering convicted murderers. But, on the other hand, are they getting an easy way out? They should be left to suffer. And the whole “wrongly accused and wrongly convicted” is a real rabbit hole. Very complex indeed.

That advert for On The Beach holidays, the one with Christmas music, features a fat white family with fat kids, no gingers, no mixed heritage and no gay unless the fat kids turn out to be. Fat mum, fat dad, fat kids. I’m not booking an OTB holiday in case I end up in the same resort as them.

Thing is those types are good at adapting to whatever environment they're in. They get to a stage where they make it comfortable for themselves and are taken care of for the rest of their lives. They don't need to worry about anything.

It's still a total loss of liberty no matter how you look at it.
 
(Some) Americans who think the world should revolve around their ignorant / self serving ideals whilst living the hypocritical lifestyle of serving Jesus on Sunday and then devolve into hawkish murders (who promote war/death/destruction) the other 6 days of the week.
They also think nothing of picketing Planned Parenthood Clinics but deny services for children in lower income neighborhoods. I guess embryos have more rights than children who are our future.

And this is from an American, who is disgusted and embarrassed by the behavior of these "patriots" :rolleyes:

Isn't there a rule that every advert has to have at least one person from an ethnic minority background?

oh those kids on that on the beach advert definitely have a tinge of ginge! (its an awful advert)
Me and my neighbour were discussing few years back why every advert that features an all white family has to include a ginger child..in real life red heads are rare but in advert land every family has one!
