The subtle “here’s my bra” in all of Dolly’s outfits is so tiresome now

That must be a PR trip :) all three books from some Brit they barely know? Know EIKAL was adapted for TV there.

I'm not shitting on Dolly as usual as I do enjoy her books, but I can't really see them doing that well in America? They're quite specific to the British experience- but I guess Sally Rooney's books are quite Irish and their emotions can be felt worldwide :)

This makes me wonder if she has a full-time nanny (or two), because anyone who's had a beach holiday with children knows that your attempts to read by the pool are endlessly interrupted by checking the children haven't drowned, admiring their diving skills, judging swimming races, and then having to get in and splash with them/get them out and dressed and warmed up when they've had enough. You just can't read eg Dickens when all that's going on. Unless you have full-on childcare, of course.

Slightly OT but a lot of people think they can write and edit when they can’t. I saw on LinkedIn ‘I’ve just graduated from a sub editing course and now have free reign to find a sub editing role”- babe, it’s ‘free rein’

You can really tell actually who’s a reader. I’m a natural reader and that’s where I learnt all these little things from. Dolly’s a good writer and you can tell she reads. Pandora pretends she’s all high brow and literary but you can tell she doesn’t read decent books. I don’t think she has much education?

It’s so arrogant for her to think she doesn’t need an editor.
Astonishingly, she was an editor (????!!!) when she gave dolly her Sunday Times job.

I get that most people wouldn’t bother with an editor for a newsletter or blog when it’s just an extra little thing they churn out but when you market yourself as a lit queen, you can’t be putting stuff like that into the world.

As for nanny, I got the sense she was saying there is little time for reading on holiday except in the evenings.

Panda talks about reading a lot. It says v little about what she reads which makes me think she isn’t reading anything hefty.

On the sun editor having ‘free rein’. I have a friend who paid a self proclaimed editor about 500 GBP to edit a v short ebook - about 30 pages. There were errors on every page post edit.
 
I think it’s because it is written in a very casual way. There is a lot of incorrect punctuation, especially in the first few lines. Some unnecessary conjunctions etc.

That’s my take on it anyway :)

Yeh she was an editor at a magazine with an entire sub-editing team. I also think it was a bit of a lofty title as they couldn’t have wooed her onboard as a deputy.

I don’t stand a chance then! 😂 I’ve been trying to write more recently, I find it hard to put words to paper but also enjoying the process. I’m not hugely well read though, I struggle with books due to attention span issues and self taught but have trying to find ways to versify my vocabulary!

I think Pandora is an ok writer but I occasionally find it difficult to follow what she says, feels more like a stream of consciousness sometimes x

So she was telling Katherine Ormerod in 2016 that she ‘fits it all in’ with time for telly. When did she have a personality shift and change to fitting it all in with time for reading? Was it literally just the book episodes of the High Low? When did this wannabe literary personality appear?
