This is a bit 🤢 She was posting bits from Tatler last week, laughing at the lives of rich people so I found this ironic and quite amusing.

I find Stacey a bit annoying sometimes. Always going on about how broke she is post-divorce (and I've no doubt her lifestyle has taken a financial hit) but lives in a gorgeous terraced house in London, is never not wearing gorgeous clothes and recently bought a holiday home in Majorca or somewhere. Give it a rest, Stace!
She is an absolute nightmare and the poor woe is me is just an act. She was fired from her very well paid job a particular London luxury department store because of her behaviour. A vile woman.

Has anyone read Caroline o’ donoghue’s most recent novel? I’ve read a sample on kindle and I decided about whether to read on. It’s the first book of hers I’m trying. Some little bits annoying me already. She’s not like other girls and not is her main character.

I like the sound of the book, Clare, she abandoned and spoke about in the podcast. Haven’t listened to spoilers yet m.

It’s been discussed in the reading chats thread. Come join!

Yeah, I liked it! Tbh I’ve enjoyed all of her books, but sometimes she can grate on me (a bit of a pick me girl?)

But I doubt she cares what I think of her if I’m buying her books!

I absolutely cannot with long denim skirts. Where I grew up, lots of super-super-Christian mums wore these all year round as jeans were considered too masculine, and I can never break the association.
That’s so interesting though. They found a compromise. It’s still tit, they should have been able to wear jeans like anyone else.

Just read the Rachel problem and listened to sentimental. Shocked to learn that COD went to private school?? That’s almost unheard of in Ireland but makes sense why she is so confident and comfortable schmoozing with Dolly and Ella in london. All the fancy pantses flock together it seems.

I gave up on it in favour of ‘Becky’ Sarah May which I am really enjoying so far.

Agree with the confidence comment. It seems like that is sometimes the greatest advantage of a private education- the absolute confidence and knowledge that you belong and deserve to be heard.

Sorry to bang on about the Rachel Problem, I know there is a reading thread but how did you find it? It held my attention just about but I didn’t rate the writing. Was surprised she crowbarred in ‘it’s very a play’ line and the line comparing their emerging friendship to a recently birthed foal I thought was awful and was amazed it made it into the podcast with dolly. Almost as bad as her Durex for the heart line.

I didn’t mind the book but the “very a play” line (she also did a few other “very a X” lines) seemed like a clanger because it was real moment in the Sentimental in the City podcast?

Agree! Clanged bad but I have relistened to those podcasts a lot so I thought it might’ve clanged harder because of that

Yes please tell us more!
She is best friends with Noel Gallagher’s wife from teen years in Edinburgh. I sometimes wonder if she gave her some money! As she’s not from money and her writing can’t bring in that much.

New here, but been lurking on this thread for a while and so here for it! Elizabeth Day is so sycophantic. I wonder if her podcast would’ve gone anywhere if she didn’t happen to have Phoebe Wallers Bridge and Dolly Alderton as friends for the early episodes. Also most of us are too busy worrying about real issues - rent, mortgages, work, parenting, etc - to have time to sit down with a friend and dissect the purpose of our friendship.

Roxie Nafousi did rip her podcast off though with her “three moments that made me” spin.
