Twitter - Elon Musk takes control and renames X

Foreign PMs saying whatever to get them some celebrity.

They need to firstly have some rules for social media and a way to enforce them. Then they can call the heads of companies in the local country to speak.

They still have little rules on social media and influencers get away with breaking the rules on ads and using their children for content. Maybe try addressing that first.

Some sort of setting changed somewhere that I can't find.

it's now doing an immediate auto-play of 'next' for some meaning of 'next' that even when in the 'following' section the auto-played next clip is guaranteed to be be stuff from people I already scroll past in the 'for you' section.
I have yet to see one of any interest, whereas the 'for you' often does have those.
(so now the clip gets an extra view plus I get tagged as 'interested in')

I went through settings and auto-play is off. I even went as far as switching on the 'data saver' option (everything is already on non hi-res, no autoplay etc) and it still does it...

Won't be flouncing off, it's just annoying to get drafted into artificially boosting apparent popularity of crap, or at least until the algorithm successfully trains me to automatically hit 'back' at the exact moment that the clip I wanted to see is ending...

From the FT:

Investors in Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter are set to make a huge windfall from a surge in the valuation of his artificial intelligence company, reaping rewards from being loyal backers of the billionaire’s business empire.

Musk has given investors that backed his $44bn Twitter acquisition 25 per cent of the shares in xAI, which he founded last year to take on rivals such as OpenAI and Anthropic.

xAI is set to close a new $5bn fundraising round as early as Wednesday, according to people with knowledge of the talks, doubling its valuation to $50bn in just six months.

Anyone else find X pretty much unuseable now? I don't post but I have an account to lurk and it's such tit trying to navigate the place.

I wish people would just pick another platform once and for all and let X die.

X, Facebook, threads are all terrible to navigate now, I barely see stuff from my friends, it's all ads and strangers' posts.

And. On X and threads it's always miserable people trying to be more intellectual than others.

Social media has always been one big pissing contest - can't wait until the annual stacks of presents under the tree photos <sarcasm> - but the way everyone constantly tries to out virtue each other is especially draining. I barely lurk now but when I do check in I regret it. When did everyone become that annoying school marm wagging their finger at the naughty little children?

I was going to say 'et tu, Grok?' but that plays into elon's caesar complex - he is far more like the archetypal grand vizier who indirectly controls the empire for his own nefarious purposes - but I digress...

And so the holy oracle of Grok thusly spaketh and with links to references

Elon Musk's posts on X often contain misinformation or misleading claims, particularly on topics like elections, immigration, and other political issues. This has been noted by various analyses and reports:
In summary, while not all of Elon Musk's posts are untrue, there is substantial evidence from various sources indicating that a considerable portion of his political and controversial posts contain falsehoods or misleading information, particularly when addressing sensitive or political subjects.
