Christ, do I have to list all the things he said? I'm beginning to think that you don't know what "racist" means. You think making racist "jokey" comments is just banter? Not a good look for you.

And, please, do point out where I called him a Nazi. You seem quite triggered in a very odd way.

He was the Bernard Manning of the royal family.

It's no wonder that a racist like Boris defended Prince Philip's "dodgy" comments in Parliament yesterday, effectively paying tribute to them.

OMG, I mistyped "Nazi" when I should have said "racist". Keep the typo, I am generous :)

You don't seem to have a lot of cultural awareness or you would have some understanding of the generation PP was from.
Those comments were meant to be funny - just because you are offended by them, doesn't mean you are right.

PP had no racist intention - if so, he would have acted differently. The Obamas were certainly not offended and - unlike you - they actually got so spend some time with him.

Frankly, I very much doubt that you achieved even a tenth of what PP has achieved.
He kept a marriage alive for over 7 decades, has four children and a large family, left a legacy in form of DoE and countless patronages, met people around the world and was a war hero at age 22.

He was too busy with more important things to whine about silly comments someone else made.

You can be anti fascist but still be racist. Look at Churchill (runs for the hills)

You know the second world war ended 70 years ago, right? Attitudes were very different then.

PP could have joined the Nazis - and would have probably had an easier life - but he chose not to. He risked his life to fight them, he was not forced to do this.

There is an attitude behind this: doing the right thing.
This silly comments didn't hurt anyone, but his actions saved lives.

Why are you so touchy about this? Very strange.

Funny, innit. My dad died 10 years ago aged 81 and I never heard him make a racist comment. So your assertion that it was down to his generation is completely and utter bollocks.

You are really going out of your way to excuse a doddery racist.

But hey, I'm SO jealous that the Obamas got to spend time with him.

Yes my dad is 82 and was on anti racism marches 50 years ago, so just because old people are old doesnt make them racist! FWIW I think Prince Philip wasnt racist but just superior as members of the aristocracy think they are. So he thought it was funny to be offensive to the little people and the little people couldnt joke back.

I think it is a well established fact that communication styles and attitudes towards things change over time as society develops.
There are also studies on this.

PP also didn't make racist remarks, as he was not racist. He simply displayed his sense of humour - which might not have been to everyone's taste, but he didn't care. He had more important things on his mind.

Why am I touchy? I simply disagree with you.
I also don't like people being disrespectful towards someone who died, just because they can.

Why do you care what PP said anyway if you are not interested in him?

Yes, I did realise you were jealous. Nevermind, happens to lots of people.

I wasn't talking about PP specifically, just pointing out that racism and facism are very different things. Generally though I don't go by the generation excuse. Education can be accessed by all, age is not a barrier to that. My grandfather in law, 97 yrs old who also fought against the nazis, was in a Labour camp, w was married for 70 plus years, but only had 3 children etc etc manages not to be racist, he's managed to update his views. There's no denying PP achieved a lot, and he should be celebrated for those, but he also said some offensive things and its OK not to celebrate those or brush them off as a funny thing or a generational thing.

But thanks for the information about ww2 ending, I can take my bakckout blinds down now. Boy do I feel silly 😆

Got to stop you there. Just because they were meant to be ‘funny’, doesn’t mean they’re not offensive. Those comments perpetuate awful stereotypes, which is harmful, and in turn fuels justification of racism.

Yes, sure, he was a product of a different time - doesn’t make it right. People shunned gay people at a time, I don’t see people defending that. He made offensive, off colour comments and people are within their right to not like that.

I never said that older people are racist!

But the definition and meaning of what "racist" is has changed over time.

You can still find books printed in the 70s and 80s that contain the n-word, terminology like "unconscious bias" and "cultural appropriation" only came up a few years ago, the concept of diversity is relatively new as well.

There is lots of literature about this

You are welcome, it is also safe to go outside after dark again.

I hope you never dressed up as a cowboy or Indian when you were little, never ate Chinese takeaway food out of a box with a Chinese face and eyes on it, never bought coffee or chocolate with a wrapping featuring a dark skinned person, never watched certain shows in the 80s etc.
Have you? Because all of this is inappropriate

Never done any of those sorry 👍

I should ignore this, but if you call a man that refused to join the Hitler Youth and fought the Nazis - actually saving his whole team on a boat from them by reacting bravely and swiftly - and who traveled the whole world and knew many international leaders a "Nazi" then this says a lot about you and nothing about him.

He made some inappropriate comments - get over it. Doesn't make him racist.

I think that some people actually don't understand what "racist" means.
That is exactly what was thinking. A friend who is black sent me a link from the BBC "Prince Phillps Greatist Gaffs" He thought it was hilarious. He thought he was very funny. There are people laying flowers off all races for the DOE.. I suppose the people that call him a racist have done duck all with their lives..

Racist or not, I think we all can agree that Philip really liked his offensive / edgy one liners. So in the spirit I’m sure the old goat would have definitely not appreciated from someone as common as me, I’d like to contribute one of my own:

99yr Old Greek Billionaire Who Never Paid Tax Dies in Palace.

In Athens, they’d just call it Paraskevi and be done with it.

Aye thank you.

If anyone had been bothered to listen to anything over the last few days, Alot of what he said had been taken out of context by lazy jornos not printing the conversation just sound bites , the spear throwing AND the slitty eyes remarks were part of longer conversations which were NOT in any racsist context at all and he was truely upset over these remarks being turned into something Racist ,

It is really easy to pick on someone who can not defend himself

The way you lot go on you & your families are Pure , how you all dont get nosebleeds up there in you Ivory towers is beyond me

In that spirit, in case anyone of you missed this great obituary:

Say what you want, but I think he'd find these funny 🤷‍♀️

I like Gyles Brandreth, he comes across well on TV but why is he telling the Daily Mail all these things that Philip told him? Just because someone’s died, doesn’t mean you can share what they told you in confidence? Really changed my view of him and hope the Royals don’t keep in touch with him any longer..
Gyles was writing a book on Phil in the past few.. Months? Years? He even sent Phil the 1st and 2nd drafts and Phil sent edits back and the book is set to be published later this month.
The things Gyles has told so far aren't in any way bad and I think it's fully in line with what Phil and the family expected, considering Phil saw the book and basically collaborated on it.

I think he is as slimy as they come.
I read a comment or two on him not being... The best guy, so to say, do you know any rumours by chance?

No it's just a vibe I get off him

Still can't over Charles' involvement with Saville, why was he his marriage advisor?? They all knew he was a necrophile/pedophile and yet they took him in with open hands. Elizabeth and Philip also need accountability for this too.
No idea but I seriously question whether the RF have the same morals as us peasants, it would appear not. I don't think the Queen thinks her darling Andrew has done anything wrong but Harry marrying a mixed race yank has done an awful thing.

What was their involvement exactly? Why was he Charles' marriage advisor? Sounds strange to me

Which comments specifically are you referring to that were offensive?

I think he is as slimy as they come.

I can't warm to him either.

Charles was friends with him and consulted him on his marriage.
He gave Diana the creeps and she avoided Sav where she could.

There are other p'dos in the family (L Mountb) and amongst friends (that one priest, forgot his name, Charles was friends with him and even defended him, and some other questionable characters hanging around the Winds).
