People whitewash Diana far too much in hindsight. She was the other woman in multiple marriages. She ended Gavin Hastings marriage. Even Dodi was engaged to someone else. She was excellent at manipulating the press and sold her story in a way that the public has been furious with Harry for doing. She was no angel, she, like the rest of them was a deeply flawed person.
Her calling up the wives of the men she was sleeping with to pretty much terrorize them says a lot about her as a person imo.

Do you mean Will Carling? Gavin Hastings is still married ...

anyone else think this is all for nothing, the general public is just bored, and kate is going to appear after easter looking completely normal and happy with William again? there's no proof of anything, just noise. it's gonna be so anticlimactic lmao
I'm in a similar mindset.

I am intrigued to see what public response will be, and why. If she simply pops back into styled hair, high heels, and media-trained smile mode, will people make wild speculations to avoid acknowledging they were wrong, or simply move on and say nothing?
Or, if she comes out and says she had something like a stoma and didn't want to have the public watching and assessing her every move as she adjusted or waited for it to be reversed, will those speculating and demanding her private information show any shame, or will it be the sudden shift to "poor Kate, she suffered so much and it was all the press at fault!"?

And some of us didn't feel 'heart sorry' for her, in my case because I had an excellent source of information from within the Spencer family through my mother who was good friends with a close Spencer relative. There's no point me going into huge detail because I can't prove it, the source is dead, as is my mother. Suffice to say that Diana went into it with both eyes wide open, she knew what she wanted and she got it. There was huge unease in parts of the greater Spencer family as they did not feel she was stable enough for the 'job'.
Didn't she get cold feet the day before and her sisters told her that it was too late as her face was on the tea towels? I was just a few months older than Diana and I seem to remember that the throwing herself downstairs was at the beginning of the marriage when she was pregnant with William, not after Charles effectively copped out of it. He said on TV that he didn't go back to Camilla until the marriage had broken down irretrievably and I also vaguely remember Diana admitting in an interview that she was first to stray.

The royals seem to keep their exes close - look at Anne and Andrew Parker-Bowles, as well as all the former girlfriends at both William and Harry's weddings. They all mix in the same circles all the time.

As for Diana's death, I couldn't understand why people were demanding that QE return to London. Those two children needed their grandparents while their father was dashing around flying their mother's body home, etc. They should have taken priority over demanding Londoners.

Well if you look back at the footage from the time, millions thought very differently. To say she milked the public for sympathy is something I never saw. She was hugely more popular than any of the rest of them who were seen as a stuffy institution and not in touch with the public and Di wasn’t called the People’s Princess for no reason. She made bad choices as we all do in life, but I wonder how things would have been if Charles hadn’t been chasing his bit on the side instead of concentrating on his marriage. It may even have given the boys a stable upbringing if he had. He was too busy telling Camilla he wished he was a tampon to be with her! We all have long memories of the time. Tampongate was enough to put me off Charles for life. No wonder royalty is becoming less relevant to the under 30s
Well, that wasn't true for a start. I read the conversation captured at the time. Camilla made a joke about him coming back in another life to live in her knickers. Charles replied that, knowing his luck, he'd come back as a tampon. Rather different.

If it picks up enough I wonder if they’ll do as the Swedish royals and actually issue a statement addressing it.

If I was Kate and William hadn’t cheated and I was just trying to recover I’d struggle to not issue a statement shaming all the people feeding gossip online.
Was that when the King cheated on Queen Silvia (and the mistress wrote a book about it) or when there were rumours about the Crown Princess's marriage?

I think they've created a storm in a teacup situation where everyone will be desperate to get the first photo of her... Not good 🙈😬

Diana nay have very well gone into her marriage to Charles with her eyes open, but that doesn't necessarily mean she properly comprehended the implications.

I knew someone years ago who had spent a lot of time with Diana in her teens, and this person made it clear that Diana wasn't the brightest button in the box, to the point where no one quite knew what to do with her. Diana even admitted this herself when Harry was born: that he was "thick" like she was.

I often wonder if a lot of the situations surrounding Diana in her life were pretty much down to this. She wasn't conviving, malicious, or the very wronged heart of gold. Instead, she just wasn't very intelligent and didn't really process the possible implications of her actions.

Like with Harry, we are attempting to read all manner of motives into a situation when the truth is that someone just has fluff between their ears and does stupid things because of it.

Young Andrew reminds me of Sarah Chatto’s sons
