The Last of Us - HBO & Sky Atlantic

Just finished Ep3, it was amazing and heartbreaking, I loved it. Have a question though, near the beginning of the episode Joel and Ellie are at the farmhouse and Ellie goes into that underground part. What was the blue box she took from there? Is it significant?
It was tampons. Tampax Pearl

It was so nice to see a story of love between older gay men that didn’t have an underlying theme of homophobia and lust. Obviously it was incredibly sad but in a weird way, it felt like the closest characters could get to a happy ending in that world, which you don’t often see in media about men in relationships with other men

I found so much of it really poetic, not even just for a zombie drama but for TV overall. The domestic details, seeing pollen at dusk, being genuinely joyous at eating a good meal, and especially the shot of the window at the end…all the tiny things they appreciated about life despite everything! it was just so good 😢

they talk about this on the podcast a little bit. Having input from middle aged men and middle aged gay men who have had partners for a while and it was really cool to hear that that was a POV they really considered because it showed. Murray is gay but Nick is not (obviously if you know anything about Nick lol you know who his wife is)

Murray Bartlett was also recently in Welcome to Chippendales on Hulu if anyone is interested. He was wildly great as was Kumail Nanjiani.

I get what you mean. I think we are too conditioned to think zombies = edge of seat, fast paced drama ie The Walking Dead.
If you are familiar with Craig Mazin's other work ie Chernobyl, it was SO good, one of the best shows I have ever watched. But it's quite slow too. The casting and production is top notch. But it is slow paced. And I think there is beauty in that.

I thought the game was quite sentimental and thoughtful throughout so tbh I wasn’t expecting a gory thriller from it. I expected it to be about humans dealing with the zombie apocalypse. I do think some of the marketing has slanted it towards coming off as a scare-fest though 🤔

I love all the stuff about how the pandemic started. I find it really interesting that it got into a staple crop like wheat, sugar cane or maize. The mention of flour in Ep 3 made me think back to the cookies that old lady made and wonder whether the flour/sugar she’d been baking with had been contaminated.

I wish I could hear from epidemiologists etc. on how feasible a disease spreading through crops like that is. some people think something similar happened with ergotism in Salem with the witch trials!

I loved it normally game adaptations are tit the show somehow is better the story telling is epic. Still not sure about Ellie she's less sympathetic character in the show, so rude 🤣🤣

I hated it, found it very slow paced and boring. I wanted zombies not a hour-long romance 🙈🙈

The game isn't really a scare fest either resident evil is better for that they should make the Ethan winters TV series I'd ball my eyes out as well. The beauty of the LOS game is how humans adapt and survive form relationships really in an apocalypse.

Not sure if you’ve played the game but it’s not all scare jumps-with the infected. There areallot of moment like this, you could be playing forhalf an hour without shooting anyone and it’s just nice sentimental moments
Which is what makes it so much better! It has heart and feels more real. I am so glad they are paying more attention to the story.
They did what walking dead failed to do in 11 seasons.

I read the game plot on wiki after reading these comments so thanks for that! Still sounds like something I'd be interested in and I enjoyed the first two episodes but the third was just too sentimental/slow for me. I also couldn't take to Frank which might have played a part of me disliking it, I felt like he was taking advantage of Bill because he saw he would be onto a good thing 🙈 I'm glad it's living up to everyone's expectations and you're all enjoying it! Happy viewing ☺️❤️

There’s a companion podcast hosted by Troy Baker simply called “The Last of Us Podcast” that’s been interesting to listen to!
I went and listened to this podcast after seeing it been mentioned here. I have to say it added so much more to my TLOU viewing experience. There was so much thought behind some of the key scenes. Really interesting to hear how certain production decisions were made. I highly recommend it too!
