Oh god, there’ll be endless diatribes that start ‘as a mother ...’, won’t there?
That and every cliché about motherhood under the sun to be fake relatable to her audience. If she start moaning about not having time to do anything while being in the incredibly privileged position to take a huge chunk of time off while her husband does nothing and childcare readily available, I'll SCREAM

To all of you asked why Mark isn’t working, here is the answer.

My understanding is that the cash in 2020 was 466k and it went up to 550k, so around a 100k increase.

Well, no, you only get half the story - that’s the net gain that’s been retained in the business, but doesn’t take into account expenses, dividends, etc. If a particularly large dividend was declared last year (which is likely, given the house purchase) then the actual year’s income is far greater than the disparity between 2019 and 2020.

Assuming she’s paid her National Insurance contributions, she’d get the maximum £151.97 a week.

As social media is her primary job, Anna would only be allowed to work on the 10 ‘Keep in Touch’ days - any more and she would lose the right to MA. KIT days are also taken in whole days, even if the work she did only took a couple of hours.

With 10 days she could easily record a couple of videos a day and take photos to post, then get Mark to edit and post videos. But maybe she’s enjoying the time with the baby (and the cynical side of me thinks she’s never done that much work in a day pre-baby)

Wrong choice of words on my part - mum of 2 so know "how" MA and STP work - it was more a general question to open the discussion of whether we think influencers are claiming what they are entitled to whilst they are offline, money and KIT days - or as someone pointed out, not bothering because it's hassle and they earn so much anyway.

I think Anna treats Instagram like work, she’s professional but when she’s off she’s off, she’s boring af but I respect that for her, why shouldn’t she have some time off and enjoy her baby? She earns enough to take it off! Much. Better that than half baked ‘content’ like Lily or baby ad spam like Jim Chapman

Ya. Much better than showing us her dirty eye shadow, her chin hair, dirty cupboard

I know people are entitled to take a break from work when they have a baby. I just think it’s weird if Anna and Zoella had their babies around the same time and even Zoella has been more active on Instagram. I know it’s a touchy subject and definitely shouldn’t compare peoples maternity leave I just couldn’t help but think it strange. Does she not panic that she might lose her followers if she doesn’t post? Idk I’m just nosey and want to hear about the birth and recovery

I hope this doesn’t offend anyone - Anna included - I haven’t had a baby and I don’t work in social media so I’m an uninformed opinion

Soz I haven’t read through the thread!

why is it weird? Zoe has always shared more of her life on social media, Anna has always treated it more like a job and kept work boundaries. Vlogging/sharing comes naturally to Zoe, it is integral to her success.

Anna will have been filming this whole time, I’d guess, it’s just a matter of when she will publish. I think it will all be strategically timed in the run up to the Christmas cash rush for influencers. In that way she gets the best of both worlds, filming little snippets here & there is easy and she still gets the interest (+ income) when it suits her. Not sharing much/anything now makes it even more lucrative. Anna is savvy, she knows people are nosey and will make it work for her bottom line on a schedule to suit her.

We will get a “life update/meet baby” vlog in mid November to draw people back for Black Friday AF and Christmas.
Yeah typical Anna vlog where in a 20 minutes video she applies same old makeup for 10 mins, then gives the most cryptic update possible which lasts about a minute, and it's followed by 9 minutes of Anna cooking either a Hello Fresh meal, or a recipe from Waitrose and Partners website.

its strange because I expected Zoella to jump at the chance to stay offline for as long as possible. I guess I expected it to be the other way around. I’m not an avid watcher of Anna so I guess I hadn’t noticed a pattern before. I’ve read the previous posts in the thread now

In my opinion the old school social media stars who happily vlogged/filmed/uploaded every day (or close to it) for years such as Zoe are a rare type of person, yes it’s work and yes it’s lucrative but imo no amount of money can compensate for it if you don’t love doing it. Watchers always know when someone’s heart is not in it and switch off. These rare types actually thrive living this way, it comes naturally to them and it gives them something rather than take away.

The other types upload daily for 30 days perhaps once a year and even when a lot is prefilmed you can still tell it takes a psychological/mental toll to keep that up. Also look how quickly Anna scaled back her filming schedule over the years (from three to often once per week) - investing time in other platforms was the reason given but let’s be honest, it’s because adsense fell and the money came from other sources - it was never about a love of filming & sharing or the innate want to do so.

I suppose my point is that putting wealth/privilege to one side, there is a type of person who thrives on filming and sharing, it’s akin to breathing for them (even more so when the arduous aspects are outsourced to employees who are not spouses or family members). The others, and I would put Anna in this category, sharing yourself and your life is the price you pay for a lucrative income and comfortable lifestyle so how much is shared and how and when is carefully weighed up.

How much of a chore it is to share yourself is on a sliding scale and it will change over time for every influencer as well. However.. with all that said (sorry for the essay) I would put Zoe and Anna at fairly opposite ends of that spectrum.

Does anyone know of an influencer who has every spoken about the actual work they do in a day/week? Usually they're all on IG like, OMG its SO MUCH work you guys don't even KNOW. But when people do day in the life videos I feel like they do, idk, under 4hrs work at most?

Edit because @PineappleQueen19 's post went up at the same time as mine - I get how vlogging daily/posting videos 3-4 times a week does take a lot of work!

Good question @Justalurker2020 - for the ones it doesn’t come naturally to, prone to procrastination, feel it’s an intrusion etc - when those ones talk about how much ‘work’ it is to be online, is the majority of the work psyching themselves up to do it? They might not even realise the difference, probably just aware that for some it comes more naturally to pick up the camera or phone and their output is probably a lot higher because there’s simply more actual doing.

For the ones who have to force it - I have sympathy to a degree as I have ADHD so for me many tasks are 99.9% the psych up especially unmedicated. However - for that reason I would never consider that type of job and if I did would not complain about ‘the work’ in that way because it’s a choice.

I think a lot of them go on about how much/how hard they work in such vague terms because the perception of influencing not being a real job. In truth it’s a job yes and yes it is work but it’s on the easier end of the hard work spectrum. Influencers being defensive about that only further embeds the perception imo.

There is also the weird pressure on influencers to appear fun & happy & breezy in order to sell stuff/themselves and it’s fake to varying degrees which everyone knows but we all turn a blind eye to - so some influencers then feel the need to counteract that with the ‘it’s such hard work’ which doesn’t gel because you can’t simultaneously burst the bubble (for sympathy) but also want it to stay intact (for income).

Husband and I needed to nip into a supermarket quickly on our way back from a wedding weekend this afternoon.

I was driving, and asked him to please search on Maps for nearby supermarkets on the route home, so that we didn’t need to divert too much.

He said, “Oh, here’s the nearest one: Waitrose and Partners.”

… I nearly pulled in to the nearest lay-by to chuck him out of the car.
