The advice thread for random problems #6

Not sure what phone you have but mine has digital wellbeing tools in settings already and that has time spent on apps and you can set limits. I've also used an app called block where you can set blocks to come on at certain time, for a certain time period, and specific apps. Might be worth doing though I know you said you don't want to block stuff, but it lets you unblock it, it's just a bit more effort, with some of the apps you need to restart your phone.

Instagram also has limits where it will give you a reminder when you pass it, though you can choose to ignore the limit for the day

I have to say the only thing that works for me though is leaving my phone out of reach, in another room or if I'm in bed somewhere where I need to get up to get it

It's a Google pixel I have, but am due a upgrade, what phone do you have that offers this as I don't believe mine does

Honestly if there was an app out there that said you've been on FB for a hour so get off your arse, that would be great lol

I'll look at insta as well for limiting my time on it, I try to keep myself busy outside of work with crafts but I just find myself going back to my phone an its a habit I really want to kick, I did try at night leaving my phone downstairs when I went to bed but have found myself taking it back up again, the only reason I keep it close during the day is because someone is always looking for something or needing something (a work colleague snapped the key in the door at work an freaked out) so I prefer it for calls or texts to be where I can hear it

It's called digital wellbeing tools, I have a Sony phone but I would think most of the newer android phones would have the same. There are plenty apps like that though if you don't have it. Actually the 'Block' app I mentioned does that too and pretty sure you can set up time limits for each app specifically

Thanks I'll take a look at them, they could maybe help me also be a bit organised as well

Any exam tips? Haven't taken any exams since uni and I've got a pretty big one coming up at work and now starting to tit myself a little bit 😅 I am passing the mocks though so 🤞🏽

[May be TMI for some]

On Saturday evening, I started experiencing cramping in on the left side of my pelvis. I didn’t think much of it as I usually get minor ovulation cramps which go away after a day or two.

However, this time, the pain has gotten progressively worse as time went on. It’s so painful to the point where it’s all I think about and I can barely walk. I took some ibuprofen but it only reduces the pain for an hour or so only for it to come back again.

I normally don’t even experience period cramps, so I’m literally confused as to why ovulation cramps would come out of nowhere like this.

I’m not sure if it’s a random occurrence or a ruptured cyst but it’s really debilitating. Has anyone experienced this before?

Tbh you need to see a GP and not ask health advice on here.
However it could be diverticulitus, I was diagnosed a few years ago, and it can cause bad pain on the left side.
It’s normally something you get if you struggle with constipation 💩

I wasn’t asking for health advice but merely if anyone has experienced something similar.

I will see a GP but I usually don’t rush to see them at the first sign of pain. I’m waiting to see if it stops by tomorrow, if not, I will go.

Is it only on the left? If it started left but it’s spread to the middle/right, it could be your appendix and would be an emergency.

I get this, but not so severe. I have cysts on my ovaries which do occasionally burst so put it down to that.
Someone at work had it and went to a&e & was diagnosed with mittleschmertz

do you have the copper coil fitted? I experience something similar but have been told after tests it’s likely that my body just no longer agrees with the coil. Area of pain is largely the pelvis area also. The only tests were visual to check the coil is in the right place and a scan which didn’t show anything.. not sure if there’s other ways to diagnose a potential condition?

Yes, it’s only the left side. I noticed that today the pain lessened when I lied down but as soon as I took a few steps, the pain came back ten fold.

No, I don’t. I’m not taking any kind of contraception.

Yeah, I’m thinking it might be a ruptured cyst because I’ve never experienced anything like this before. I literally spent the whole day in bed to avoid any movement that may reignite the pain.

Has anyone ever ordered something not I the wrong address? I’ve stupidly ordered something to the wrong address, I’m too far away to ‘pop around’ there to speak to the new resident.
Store isn’t particularly helpful. Is there anything that I can do?
Many thanks 💗

Sometimes when the tracking details are issued you can go in and set a diversion?

Could you get in touch with the landlord or estate agent of your previous address to see if they'd kindly pass on your contact details to the new owners / residents?

Something really weird just happened.

I live in a gated complex on my own. No one has ever bothered me in 4 years. Most people who live here are young professionals. I’ve never seen a single family with kids but again, I don’t know everyone in this building.

Around 6pm today, I heard a knock on my door. I opened the door and there was a woman standing against the wall with her child. The woman immediately gave me chills down my spine. She looked a bit haggard almost strung on something.

The child is the one who knocked at the dirt. When I said ‘What is this’, the woman told the child ‘go on’. So the child shows me some random Santa’s list to fill in and hands it to me. I said ‘Ok’ and I close the door.

I went to my living room and I thought the child and the woman were gone. Then the kid runs back to my door and the woman says to him ‘we’ll come back tomorrow’.

It was really weird. I’ve never seen this in my building. They didn’t ask for money, but the woman clearly comes from a rough area. She was wearing a track suit and home slippers. The child was in PJs. I’ve never seen them in the building ever.

I don’t know if they knocked at any other door on my floor as I didn’t hear anything but I find this all too weird and wonder if I should report it to security?

I would ask a couple of neighbours if they had them knocking as well and then I would report it to your security/management.

It could be a scam - definitely wouldn't give them anything and I would report it.
