I mean, I'm not "triggered" I'm just responding to that comment? It's true that women in general face a lot of criticism in society, but it doesn't seem to me like that's what caused Jess in particular to take the vlogs down.

If she just said she didn't feel like that reflected her accurately anymore or she didn't want them visible, I would still think it was odd, but understandable. I've hidden a lot of my teenage Facebook posts haha. But the promising to reupload them somewhere not behind a paywall just makes it feel like she's trying to do something because her business is struggling, like Lola said above.

I wasn’t referring to your comment btw.

Fair enough her wanting to take down the old vlogs, it’s frustrating for us who enjoyed them as a comfort watch but I’m sure I’d be embarrassed if there was extensive footage of me 10 years ago on the internet. They are definitely never making it to Vimeo though, digging out the files or re-editing is just another project to make her feel like her job is time consuming, worthwhile and providing value, that she will never follow through with.

Further to previous YT has recommended me a video by someone I have never heard of Connor Franta - etitled Coming Out 10 yrs later so watching out of curiousity. In it he states that watching his old videos from his early time on YT is odd to him as he doesn't recognise himself His way of speaking his mannerisms etc are all so much different 10 yrs later. Maybe Jess has seen comments about her old Edinburgh vlogs etc and watched out of curiosity and realised like us that shes so much different in them and has completely changed and not for the better and taken them down because they are a reminder of how much her life, personality and channel appear to have gone downhill

In terms of taking the old vlogs down to be seen as more serious for column/industry work, reading between the lines, she got sacked from the Sunday Times column. If she couldn't make a quarterly column work for her, I don't see how old videos would actually be an issue for her getting "real" industry work

if you look at the foundations of branding it would make sense why she'd remove them. if she's failing as a traditional columnist, it doesn't rule out the idea that she's still trying to align herself with being one.

Wasn’t there a vlog once where she left it so late to read the books for the column she just read bits of some and the synopsis then wrote her reviews based on that?

Yes 😭 which like maybe that's more common than I want to believe but I couldn't believe she was advertising to the whole world that she was so behind and basically lying in the reviews!

That doesn’t make sense to me though, she already got the column based on her status as it was. She wouldn’t have lost it for any reason other than her work ethic. Unless she’s convinced herself that it’s because they watched her old videos and not because she couldn’t keep up with a quarterly column 😭

Is this why she lost the job? Was she not making the content they required?

I think she did four quarters, so I assume that was the original agreement and then they just didn't renew her. Maybe it was the (lack of) quality, maybe she didn't drive traffic the way they hoped an "influencer" would, or maybe they just went a different direction or never intended to do it more than a year.

This is just my personal speculation but based on everything we've seen the past 4-5 years I feel like this isn't anything super calculated and professional, she's just trying random strategies in a "throw everything at the wall and see what sticks" way. We're putting way more thought into her career plan than she is at this point 😆

Her mother's or stepfather's connections likely got her the job in the first place, and the people at the Sunday Times did it as a favour. It was just a nepotism-style short term thing that maybe Jess and her family hoped would propel her into further work, but because of her being so meh at it with zero work ethic; it didn't.
