It's a hard one because for the most part you want someone who is entertaining and can dance, I'd rather it was more the former, but that's personal preference. Like honestly? Watching Paul do Vindaloo is one of my favourite Strictly dances ever. Is it dire? Yes. Should he win? Definitely not. But it cheers you up and watching Tasha as stunningly beautiful and talented as she may be, bores me to tears. There's a line between enjoyable to watch, while also being able to move (or improving atleast some as you go) and that's why Punam is my fave atm.

I'd personally rather keep contestants like Paul in for a while than the middlers like JB, Sam and Jamie who you completely forget after 5 minutes.

I agree. I still think CC is a waste of time - or shouldn’t be marked as the judges have no knowledge of any of the genres.

I did enjoy Punam’s dance, Gorka looked happy for once! But the sob story angle? Just stop it. Woman in early 40s loses grandparent. It’s not exactly unexpected is it?

Also, a possible precedent there - Paul and Shayne could really lay it on thick with their backgrounds/family histories - eeek out the tragedies/sympathy. It’s what killed the X Factor. Allegations of abuse and sob stories. And Strictly is already on that path….😱

I’m dreading Chris’ couples choice. You just know they’re going to lay it on THICK.
Chris doesn't seem the sob story type, and I hope he wouldn't be pressued into doing one. I could see them doing a fun CC. He joked at the start of the series that he only listens to metal and was looking forward to mosh pit week, so that could make for an interesting CC.

I thought that too but he seems to be getting sucked into the schmalz.

100% guaranteed. Hasn't that already happened with the pro dancing with blind celeb in one of the other iterations?

the only one i know of is the paralympian from dwts (i think her name was danielle!) but i don’t think she did. however nyle dimarco (their deaf contestant) did dance with one, which is honestly super impressive. i genuinely don’t know about any other series though!

I’m hoping that he’ll push back on that to some extent. He’s pretty pragmatic and down to earth about his sight loss, so hopefully he’ll refuse to get pulled into the bullshit 🤞

Hopefully he'll get to do a jubilant metal moshfest like he said he wanted with no heartstring twanging or patronising inspiration porn Dianne in a blindfold. I don't see production letting that happen though, sadly.

i do think though that the whole concept of the couples choice is flawed. like a more eloquent poster said above, if the contestant goes fully heartfelt then it becomes impossible for the judges to critique (ie will bayley’s, rose’s) and the contestant themselves gets wrecked for doing a “sob story”. like i didn’t view punam’s as a sob story at all, just someone talking about how much her family mean to her, and i don’t know if it’s fair for now any mention of family to be “sob story!” but i equally get why people are cynical about it. i like that we get to see some themes we never usually would, but i don’t think it helps anyone. i still have a bad taste in my mouth from bobby’s and how i don’t think even he really wanted to do it.

the best one honestly for me is still greg wise 🤣 he was literally like i’m doing this for my sister she would have thought i looked ridiculous and she’d love it and just went out with pure love. even though it was technically a “sob story” he never sold it as one.

I did kind of like Chris Ramsay sending up the whole concept of the mawkish sob story. Wasn't his pre CC VT about clearasil or something?
