Oh dear. Will is directly quoted in this, and it's pretty damning of some people in production, particularly casting director Stefania:

Will, who was born with a debilitating limb condition, claims bosses and professional dancer Janette ignored his fears about the jump.
He had previously met with them to explain he was unable to perform leaps as he has no ankles.

But even before the jump, Will had felt marginalised. He called a meeting with casting director Stefania Aleksander in the first week.

He said: “I was left off the group WhatsApp when the show started. I felt really left out. I asked to be added and Stefania said, ‘Sorry, I totally forgot about you’.

“I was made to feel lucky to be on the show and less important than other celebrities. She had her favourites — like Jamie Laing, who I got on really well with.

“Then I was put right at the back of the group dance and she made a cutting comment that upset me to imply that I couldn’t dance and had an attitude.

"I called a meeting and asked if she had a problem with me and she said no, but for me, it all led to the jump. I wanted to prove myself to her and show all the executives what I could do.”

I'm glad Will is speaking out his accident was shocking especially when it was preventable if the had just listened to Will.
I can't believe he wasn't taken straight to hospital! To leave him alone in a hotel room is callous, where was the big happy family when he needed them?

I do like that he highlighted that this pressurised atmosphere behind the show comes from production they are part of the reason why some of the pros thought they could get away with this behaviour.

Good for him for speaking up. He could have a proper case here as loss of earnings due to injury and lack of accommodations for his disability is pretty clear cut.

At this rate I don’t know how the show can continue, there is just going to be a constant stream of everyone who has ever had any sort of issue adding to the pile. Amanda has definitely opened Pandoras Box, whoever is in charge of casting will be regretting the day they decided to ask her on
If the complaints were only against a few pros they could just get rid of them and carry on, but now it's a judge and ITT presenter 😬 it's not looking good but it's too late in the day to cancel. This year's series will be a strange one for sure.

Nothing is going to happen to this cocky little prick is it? As nothing was captured on camera like with Graziano they are going to ignore complaints from multiple people.

Well!!! I did say on one of the threads that Amanda will be paid to go away and Gio will be making comments about not having to work with nutcases any more 😱😱😱

I did think he'd wait till the outcome of the investigation but obviously not!!!

Jings he must be confident. Or mental!!!

The producers have a lot of blame in all the situations we're hearing about now but reading that Janette told him his jump was rubbish and he needed to do more just makes me annoyed. She spent the most time with him out of anyone on that show and would/ should have known his limitations due to his disability and should have done more to protect him.

This makes me so angry. He wasn't treated like a human being at all. The show needs to go.

I'm so appalled by the ablelist attitude towards Will and especially the nasty attitude of Stefania. It's literally her job to look out for the celebs and she sounds like a horrible, manipulative bully. And no surprises that she has favourites. It certainly goes some way to explaining Jamie Laing getting through all the dance offs the following year

I remember at the time, there was a sense 'oh Will was so determined to do the jump and it would have been cruel to stop him!' defensiveness which was clearly complete bullshit. I just feel so sad for him that no one spoke up for him, and shame on Janette for not advocating for her partner.

And not taking him to hospital??? FFS

Anton's comments on fat people is just part of that article. It's been out there for 16 years, but does show what an awful human being he truly is. Creepy, tone-deaf, insensitive and a bit snobbish. And it's icky that he was 41 and didn't know how to cook anything.
Anton’s always been a bit of a tit (to put it mildly), but for some reason which is completely beyond me the BBC has always been pushing him. There was a period a few years back when they were trying to launch him as a talk show host, or game show host, or something along those lines. That didn’t stick, because he was shite at it. But they didn’t give up on him (bafflingly). When he became too tragic as a Strictly group dancer to ignore, rather than sack him, they made him a judge (WTF???). And then he got that series with Giovanni where they basically prance around Europe enjoying themselves, all expenses paid.
The BBC is a very odd institution. When they decide to back someone, that’s it. They’re bulletproof.

Stefania preferring Jamie Laing over a gold medalist Paralympian says everything we need to know about her. Probably why she's given us so many odd castings in recent years, she must like the more trashy types and the unknowns. IIRC she said in an interview that she cast Tyler West to appeal to "young cool cats" or something cringe like that. Bit of an odd thing to say, and shows next to no understanding of audiences.

I guess it’s no shock that Janette’s lovely, caring, Disney Adult persona masks a ruthless and competitive edge. Just shows how deceptive it can be.
Jamie Biscuits being so favoured stilll boggles the mind.

Tbf I think ITV do the same. Many examples if that.

I think he was viewed at the time by the Beeb as Brucie Mark II. He fitted that 1970s game show host type that they thought we all loved/wanted on our Saturday night tv. He used to do little song and dance routines with Bruce at the end of the series that was pretty cringe.

Much as I at the time thought the nougties were progressive, looking back now on things that went on and what was glossed over, they really were not very progressive at all, although still far removed from the shite in the 1970s.

The article I read said Will didn’t blame Janette and said they were still friends. Given she presents ITT and her husband is going back there’s no way she was going to say anything critical and jeopardise her whole family’s income
Her only income .. I mean her “Bučko” hasn’t really set the stage alight

her face is so catty looking and it baffles me still how she was given a back door entry into presenting - I’ve seen more life in a corpse

I think people need to be careful with jumping to the worst conclusion over Strictly pro’s & their partners. Yes of course Will shouldn’t have been pushed to do a jump that injured him but arguably, he should have known his limits. And if he had concerns, voiced them. The BBC possibly failed in their duty of care to both him & Janette who had only ever had experience training able bodied celebs at that point & probably had no clue of the injury risk. Saying something is rubbish is hardly a bad thing to say. It’s a competition, I compete (not in dancing) & I’m told I can do better all the time. If I wasn’t pushed by my coach, I wouldn’t do as well. If I took every negative comment to heart, I’d be a mess 😂 Will is an Olympian, there is no way he hasn’t had very tough coaches in his life. And it sounds like he doesn’t remotely blame Janette.

People seem surprised professional dancers are ruthless & competitive. Well, yeh, of course they are. They’ve come from a very harsh, ultra competitive world from being kids..
