This was Arlene Phillips' comment about Layton and Nikita's dance on Instagram:

I watched their dance a couple more times before I went to bed last night and it was just mesmerising, and I actually loved the music choice and think it added to the romantic intensity of it! I'd been considering voting for Krishnan instead of Layton last night and due to watching on delay had to vote after only seeing Krishnan - I was disappointed with him so voted for Nigel, Ellie and Layton, and I'm so glad I did! I'd be interested in what share of the votes Layton gets after that, and whether the buzz about the dance translated into votes!

I’ve always enjoyed watching Layton and Nikita but my eyes were always drawn to Nikita but last night it was Layton who I couldn’t take my eyes off. This poster on digital spy summed things up well.

Laytons face after the dance with the audience going wild behind him will be etched on my brain for a long time.

I'll admit I wasn't a massive Layton fan. Thought he was too much of a ringer but now I love him and will probably vote to win. He's such a gorgeous person, really fun and a beautiful dancer

I don’t mind Craig giving a 9 (well, I do … but I’ll pretend I don’t) but what I do object to is that there was no feedback as to why it was a 9. Just saying a standard Ay-May-zing gives them nothing to work with when they do it again in the final.
There should have been feedback. How can they improve without it!??
I will say I preferred the latter half of the dance to the first half so maybe it has something to do with that!? But again, without feedback how are they to know!?

That is so true. A really good summary of how things have been going for them.

There was an element of having to rein in Layton's energy, to a degree, initially, but there's also the joy for Nikita in dancing with someone whom he can push and push and push some more.

I remember one night, something the judges said in feedback, he immediately said Nikita had been telling him that all week and he hadn't done it. Another thing that makes their partnership work so well. It's evident in both of them, after their performances and in their interviews in the Clauditorium and on ITT. Just sheer joy in their partnership.

I'm no dancer and I don't know very much about dancing but my goodness that was an iconic performance and absolutely deserved a 40, imo. I almost typed 50. (Or 49) The other 10 was from me. 😁

I have a feeling Nigel wanted to do an American in Paris for his couples choice because Gene Kelly is his idol but the producers want to pull singing in the rain out of the bag for musicals week and this was a compromise.

He said "it chose us" to Claudia, likely meaning they gave us a couple of alternative options and this song was less crap

Yep, same thought about Craig too. I feel like he just does it to get attention. He knew everyone was waiting for a 10.

So many pro dancers have come out & seriously praised the AT. And yet you still have viewers trying to say it wasn’t technically very good 🤣 Please do tell us how much more you know about the AT than pros who have danced at the highest level for years! It’s like when I become a professional diving commentator at the olympics (another love of mine), I always laugh at myself criticising the level of splash they make entering the pool 😂

Just checked the spoiler

Ooh, fuming that Annabel's going to Blackpool instead of Krishnan! God, please don't let her end up pulling a Dan Walker and getting all the way to the QFs. Can't believe the bloody audience kept The Consciousness of Knobby over lovely Krishnan! Would have loved to see him lose a dance-off to Angela R. Anyway, I'm glad Angela S is safe.

I become an expert at everything at the Olympics.
Archery was a new one 😁

I massively agree with this. I’ve seen Layton perform on stage a few times (I have a mate who worked on ETAJ & I’d sometimes go grab one of the empty seats as I loved the show). He was very jazz hands, a bit OTT, over performy and I honestly thought that was going to be his downfall on Strictly. Too self focused, over performing kinda thing. But their partnership has worked so well that I think Layton is now a really nuanced performer. He’s listening, he’s learning, he’s calmer, he’s focusing on technique, he’s focusing on the two of them and not just himself. I honestly think Strictly will be a real boost to his career in terms of how he performs & the lessons he takes from the it.

I have never been a fan of ringers - I enjoy their dances because they are clearly competent and can produce really high quality dances. However, Layton just seems different to other ringers - he is on a journey (sorry for using that word) but probably more of a personal one rather than a dance one. I am sure he has faced prejudice throughout his life and to see the joy in him for being accepted for who he is is really making me warm to him. He struck gold with Nikita who is totally on board with a same sex partnership and not afraid to have highly emotional/sexually charged moments in the dances (always felt Johannes was wary of that although can see now why when he was having to fend John off 🙊).

Still hoping for an Ellie win but wouldn't be bothered if Layton did win. I was just watching some of Ellie's dances and realised she is so good at adapting to every different style and doing it well. She reminds me a lot of Alesha Dixon in that respect plus the 'heartbreak' angle aswell. However, I know she has had some higher scoring dances since but, my god, her Paso was good - the music, choreo, atmosphere etc (Vitos chest 🙊) has put it up there in my top 10 dances ever I think.

Before this series started, Nigel was my favourite and still is. I have loved him for years but never thought he would do Strictly as he is so intensely private. His partnership with Katya is wonderful and the judges can piss off with their ‘I was waiting for you to make a mistake’

I had never heard of Ellie, as I don’t watch Corrie. She is a lovely dancer, very likeable and another great partnership. I love watching her.

Layton. Oh my god, I love him so much. His dancing, his personality, the glimpses of vulnerability. Most of all, I love him and Nikita together. They have such an amazing connection, their chemistry is off the scale.

I think these will be the three finalists, and for the first time in years I would be happy for any of them to win.

Same here. They are my three dream finalists. Three lovely pros. Any one of the couples can take the glitterball and I will be happy.

I agree. Layton totally has my ♥ but I’d be happy if Ellie or Nigel won too.

I think the playing safe was what made the other same sex partnerships not fully work. I love Johannes but lots of his and Johns dances were very safe ‘clubbing down Canal Street’ dances. Lots of the dances are either very romantic or sexual so avoiding that meant they didn’t properly work.
Nikita is so refreshing by approaching each dance exactly in the way he should and not showing a hint of self consciousness showing genuine affection to Layton. This partnership is the making of both of them.
