I know there was some chat this week about Strictly backstage drama we weren’t aware of and a clip from an old interview with Jamelia just came up on my FYP where she talks about how the Strictly team would repeatedly tell her that her hair wasn’t elegant, that she needed to relax (permanently straighten) her hair and how she had to do her own hair and make-up each week because there was no one who knew how to do it for her.

As a black woman myself, I’m not surprised but it’s so disappointing that she was dealing with that. It was only in 2015 which wasn’t that long ago - and the same year that Oti joined. I’d love to know how much work Oti had to do to instigate change in the hair and make-up department because I remember her always wearing wigs and weaves in her early years compared to rocking her natural hair in later series.
I know that they have some very experienced people in now. 2021 series they had Gemma ( @gemflossi) who did Oti and Aj’s makeup and had worked with them before. Anna the hair girl used some specialists to do the plaits and weaves , especially on AJ’s Halloween hair and also the semi final quickstep look. They’ve certainly got a lot better with black hair styles since Jamelia anyway.

There’s definitely been a massive improvement and it’s wonderful to see so many different creative black hair styles. Both AJ and Fleur’s hair always looked fantastic and you can tell how much fun Motsi has with her hairstylist. The BBC clearly learned from their mistakes which is fantastic.

However, it’s so disappointing that they had to fail some contestants first for those steps to be taken and that comments like calling natural hair inelegant were a perfectly acceptable thing to say.

(Although this is the same show where Anton used a slur with no real consequences so I’m not surprised.)

Wow. The absolute cheek and ignorance of some people.

Yes should have added it was completely out of order for Jamelia to put up with that.

LadyL with a wee pass-agg dig at Vito:

Is it just me that wasn't taken with Ellie's Salsa action? Very in-sync, which was great, but lacking hip and body action, maybe the tempo is a touch too fast...

She'll have multiple orgasms if they get a 6. Oh well, good to get the salsa out of hte way when there are hopefully people who are more guaranteed to be B2.. No idea how things will shake out this week - Layton, Angela S. and R., Nigel, Bobby, all threatening to do very well.
Wonder if Adam will get a bye, though Luba seemed confident he'd be there.

Even when the critiques have some validity the pros only have four days to impart all their to their celebrity, and to try and get them to improve - and see how many times the judges pick up on something and the celeb says they know, because they've been told the same all week!

Tbh I reckon Lady Lavatory will eventually get on the Vito/Graz train like many devotees from the church of Giofanny already have. Especially if he does bugger off after this season to sell back alley aftershave and play seaside venues for horny grannies.
I think Lav is a FR ride or die tbh. I think she’ll just spend the rest of Vitos time on the show/her life snarking at him.
