I don’t get it either. As a partnership they were pleasant enough and danced well together, but I don’t get the ‘extra-special magical wonderousness’ that apparently dazzled half the internet.

Well you will need someone -gender unspecified- who has the following qualities
  • Nations' Sweetheart character type
  • Not a ringer, but has oodles of natural ability and a cheerful can-do attitude
  • Absolutely no breath of scandal attached to them
  • Strength of character to tell the producers "shove it" to being dressed up like a meercat/bee/Bo Peep
It's damn hard task, I would have said Helen Skelton fit all the criteria and still the fickle, fickle British public decided on someone else.

You know what? I'd kill for an over 40s lady to win it. I think it is time to release Sarah Lancashire and Olivia Colman upon Strictly!
 
Just reflecting on the series. Obviously disappointed my faves didn't win but

A lovely celeb and pro did win who both thoroughly deserved it ❤️
I've really enjoyed this series and the celebs (well, most of them 😬)
We got a great new set of pros
My fave Gorka had a fantastic run
And he isn't leaving just yet! 🙌

And just to say I've loved all our chats on here. We may all have different options on lots of stuff but you all make me laugh a lot and that is most welcome in this hellish bin fire of a year

But don't worry, I'm not crying.... Daddy's fine

I love Bill but he was dull AF on Strictly and nowhere near the best dancer. Love Oti too but he shouldn't have won.

I'd love to see an older woman storm it next year. Maybe with Nikita? He's due an older woman and a good dancer, so ding ding ding!

Aw agreed, thanks for all the lols this year, and every year. Have to echo Rita's post from last night that the comment about Richie looking like Shamima Begum was one of the funniest things I've read probably ever, not just on Tattle 😂 Same time next year? (Or in January when the 2023 thread is started 😁)

I kinda think that as well. I want them to give him slightly more variation than they did AJ Pritchard - I can easily see him with someone in their 30s or early 40s. But I can't see him with someone over 50. Most of the other men have a more mature look that goes better with a wide variety of celebs, even Kai & Graziano who are barely older than him. I didn't think there was any issue having Kaye with Kai for instance.

It was Tyler slowly removing his tiny bra for me (was that @soccergirl ?). I just started laughing again as I was typing this and my daughter asked me if I was ok 😂

I suppose you're right. I wonder who he's due next year - he's had a young social media/CBBC celeb, a young paralympian... I suppose he could get the ringer? They'd have to be likable though as he's too lovely to go to waste.

In the earlier series of Strictly, the orchestra/live band were not only of better calibre but also made mixes of songs to befit the dance style, e.g. remixing Ides of March's 'Vehicle' for Matt DiAngelo's salsa. These days, there's less of that mixing, which is a shame.

Overall, though, I agree that some of the recent singers aren't too great, but I'd disagree with not having the band. It's one of Strictly's signature features, compared to its counterparts. With DWTS, the studio tracks take the soul out of the performances and make them less rousing. It's like the soullessness one may find in music concerts, i.e. a performer singing against a studio track compared to with a live band on stage. Also, from personal experience, having the music live helps more with immersion and dance timing, amongst other factors.

The first few series had the Laurie Holloway orchestra, and they were much better than DaveArch and his troupe of screechy minstrels
