I agree that it's the producers fault for the mis matches height wise this year but I don't think there should be leniency because of it. Tyler and Dianne are not the only ones who are being done over because of the height thing, James and Amy, Tony and Katya and obviously Ellie and Nikita (there could be more but they're the ones that stick out). Thing is, you could argue a case for leniency for a lot of different reasons, someone being older, someones work schedule etc. It's what they all signed up for and with the majority of male celebs being taller this year this was bound to happen, better choices could have been made when it came to pairings so it wasn't so bad though. Dev handled the height difference better than Tyler is.

When I say leniency I don't meaning bumping the scores up or anything like that but a bit of more of an understanding when it comes to the comments; obviously the judges can still critique but maybe more things not affected by the height difference. Thats why I said ALL couples not just Tyler and Dianne. Dev only did one ballroom so we dont know how he would have faired in the other ballrooms; VW seems to be harder than the foxtrot due to the spins and its a more quicker pace.

Just watched it, not really a great review!

Yeah 2 out of 5 is not good at all.

I mean Ellie and Nikita didn't exactly get that understanding and they had a much bigger height difference but like I said it's part of what they sign up for when they agree to do the show. The judges have to critique what they see whether it's down to height difference or not. Tony has done more than one ballroom and he seems to have dealt with the height difference better than Tyler or James imo.

That’s never going to happen though. Poor Ricky Whittle was told off for pigeon toes … which were a result of serious leg breaks and surgery. Steve Backshall was pulled up for not pointing his toes … due to a surgically fused ankle joint.

if they don’t take into account actual issues that at the very least would need major orthopaedic surgery to correct, a bit of height difference is nothing that can’t be worked around.

I don't think Ellie and Nikita's height difference was brought up in critiques because of the obvious reason of them having a largely significant height difference and theres nothing that can be done about that.

I only think the issue with height has really come during their VW and I just think it was blown up so much; if one of the other pros had mentioned it I'm sure it may not have been much of an issue.

Speaking of Tony; he has had had quite a run of the more 'exciting' dances: Tango, Charleston, Samba, AS, Cha cha, and jive this week. I know the topic of dances given was a conversation on earlier in this thread, maybe Tony was given more of the exciting dances to see him through to as far as he has.

Also, I'm sure Jonnie Peacock didn't get much leniency on the show and he was an amputee.

I think you mean Salsa not Samba which is the only dance on that list that Tyler hasn't done, he and Tony have had pretty much the same run of dances.

yeah salsa* correction.

Someone previously put on here that they might have given Tyler the dances hes had as maybe they didnt think he would get as far as he would for whatever reasons given eg. not being as well known, the dj curse etc. Maybe they thought Tony the same for different reasons i.e age/duffer.

I feel like all I've learned about Tyler so far is that he collects torches, he's much taller than Dianne, and he has size 12 feet, and that last one has been mentioned so much recently that it's starting to sound like bragging 😆

And he thinks Halloumi is spicy.

He was told to stick his bottom under … forgetting that his posture was what it was for balance.

He vaguely referenced the kiss in his VT thing last night. Saying he has had a lot of bad press and wants to change people's opinions.

I've got some morbid curiosity to see if he will mention it or not in the camp; he definitely has an easier ride as most of the press/attention is on Matt.

He definitely didn’t. I remember him getting a lot of criticism for sticking his bottom out, which he said was difficult because he has to distribute his weight unevenly because of his prosthetic.
I also seem to remember Shirley making an awkward comment about him having a spring in his step…

Yes, I remember that!

I don't see why everybody should be sympathetic to Dianne for having a taller partner with big feet - boo bleeping hoo. If she can't make it work then that's frankly down to gaps in her teaching and choreography. And it's also an oversight on production's part for pairing them together when there were taller dancers available, though, as we've discussed, others have managed fine.
