All the poll definitively tells you is how people who voted in that poll voted. There’s no way at all to know if it’s an accurate reflection of how the wider public voting pattern because we never find out any details of the public vote.

It is possible to deduce that people low on the leaderboard received a higher public vote that people above them based on them swerving the dance off, and the poll might accurately predict the dance-off in most cases, but it’s not possible to know that an online poll visited by a tiny percentage of the audience is a ‘pretty accurate’ reflection of data that no one is privy to.

They used to plan for a 3-person final, but
after injuries/withdrawals lead to a few 2-person finals, since around 2010 they’ve planned for a 4-person final. So last year would have been a 4-person final if not for Robert Webb withdrawing and AJ being injured.

In 2020 they planned for a 5-person final due to covid, but Nicola had to withdraw so it was a 4-person final. In 2019 it was a 3-person final because Will Bayley withdrew earlier in the series.

Also, 2016 was due to Will Young withdrawing. And thinking back it was maybe 2013 that they switched to a 4-couple final, so that’s why 2012 was still only 3.

Ah, I'm sad about Ellie S, but it did feel like she was starting to plateau a bit. Although there was a good reaction to that Charleston in the studio, it didn't feel like a vote winner

I'm in two minds about Tony - he's a great, engaging personality but the actual dancing is now starting to wear a bit thin. That was the first time since week 1 I got a sense he might not have been enjoying the dance very much

I'm glad Ellie T got through, but I don't think the public will save her if she has another iffy week

Thanks Buttons! I forgot Robert pulled out. I did think for a while Kym might withdraw but she’s certainly found her mojo for it - I’ve really enjoyed most of her dances.

So, if it is a 3-person final then the way things are going, it could be Tyler, Will and Hamza! I’m sad to see Ellie go but if it wasn’t this week, I think it would be soon. They’ll need an extended edition of ITT to deal with her chatting though 😂

Things will get very interesting over the next few weeks!

I think the flood of votes for Ellie T probably sacrificed Ellie S. Sad. I enjoyed the Charleston even if her actual footwork was lacking. I would definitely rather have seen Tyler, Will or Tony in the B2. So are Fleur are Molly just going to swap DO positions now, or will they go up against each other next week?

I just rewatched Tony - that final lift with Katya in the upside-down split! she is insane!
I actually thought Shirley was pretty constructive to Tony, unlike the others.
 
Does anyone else think Strictly is behind the curve with not having had a drag contestant yet? DWTS Australia did it ages ago with Courtney Act and even DWTS USA has done it now, which is weird because they’re a far more conservative country than we are and not as tolerant of LGBT people. Once again Dancing on Ice (which is dire) has got the first in the UK! Drag Race is on the BBC ffs!

I know I’ll sound over dramatic but that really gutted me last night. It upset me when she was talking about it anyway, because I’m in the same boat.
But I feel the same as you - it was done to avoid the dance off again, and I would never, personally, use that for leverage. It made me soo uncomfortable - as it did when Jayde did it.

Sending you lots of love, I miss my dad every day too. As with Jayde, Couple’s Choice would have been a great way to dedicate a song to someone, and imvho, even though there’s no guarantees anyone will be able to do a CC, it feels wrong to just drop it in randomly because it then blatantly looks like a push for votes

With Jayde due to do her CC this week, I'm guessing when they realised she might not make it to week 7, then they decided to include her sister's story in her AS VT instead. Although I wouldn't have put it past Strictly to do another VT about it if she had made it this far

on the subject of CCs, I imagine the producers are kicking themselves for missing out on Ellie's now too - dancing aside, she has a very inspirational story that would have been ideal Strictly CC VT material
 
Surprised Ellie S has gone as I really thought she had a strong vote. Gutted for Molly but this is what happens when you’re a relative unknown and don’t have a standout personality.

I feel like this would be the point where viewers start getting annoyed at Tony being saved over better dancers, as always happens with novelty contestants, but I think he’s genuinely popular.
 
Tyler - Once again, didn't like the choreography, and the frame still isn't there. My first instinct was to blame Dianne, but tbf, a) he's too tall for her and b) from stories they've posted, she has been trying to fix his frame and feet, so maybe he just can't get much/any better. Then again, I remember thinking last year that Rhys' frame was as good as it was gonna get in his American Smooth and then a couple of weeks later in the Quickstep, I was impressed that Nancy got it even better. So maybe if Tyler survives he'll manage it in another week or two, but I think he's in danger this week. I wish Dianne had choreographed this better.

Ellie S - No swivel, but perhaps she just can't do it? Otherwise, I liked the routine, but felt a couple of the lifts were a bit boring.

Molly - Aww, just beautiful. I really hope the audience doesn't subject her to dance off after dance off, at least not for a few more weeks anyway.

Hamza - I think 10s were a little much, his free arm was noticeably not great a few times, but definitely the footwork/hips were impressive. I'm so relieved he did well, but worried for his knees going forward...

Ellie T - As I feared, not her dance. Not a total trainwreck, boo at that 3 Craig, but stiff and just overall a bit meh. Hope she doesn't go, but I'm not sure anyone else deserves to go more at this stage, except Tony, but I don't think he will quite yet. I really wish Johannes' choreography had been more interesting. He managed it with Catherine, but that seems to have been a fluke. I didn't really care for John's rumba (choreography wise) much either.

Kym - I think the music was a touch too dramatic for what she could achieve, and there was one lift I didn't really like, but she did very well, much better than I thought she was going to when the dance styles were announced. Happy for Graz, this'll be the furthest he's gotten in the competition.

Helen - I'm still a bit bored and underwhelmed with her, but I'm glad she seems more confident. I cringed when I saw the flat shoes, almost always make a female celeb Jive awful, but she did well.

Will - He did well, and I really liked Nancy's choreography. He needs to work on his face, like James, and Helen up until this week, he looks worried all the time! I don't think his frame's quite right either, and he doesn't have the height difference excuse James and Tyler have.

Fleur - I'm so glad Vito learnt from his stupid wafty, melodramatic Contempowaltz that sent me to sleep a few weeks ago, and that wardrobe was (slightly) kinder to poor Fleur than they were with that horrible beige nightie for her VW. I really hope she's done enough to save herself, I'd be really quite pissed if she goes now after so much improvement, and after most of what went wrong last week wasn't her fault.

Tony - If he doesn't go this week or next, I'll have reached the stage of being officially pissed off he's still there, but he gave that Salsa a good go. It was better than his Cha Cha. Loved the last lift. Shame about the mistake.

I think it highlights the level of manipulation the Producers will go to! I think last year Greg Wise said he would do it in honour of his late sister and they agreed, he wasn’t the best dancer but got to do CC and everyone’s happy (except Karen - or maybe she was 😂). But that’s not the vibe I picked up from Jayde, I think she thought she’d go further and you’re probably right - there may well have been another thing attached to her CC.

(I should say, I am not averse to hearing about losses or struggles in life - far from it. I just don’t want to be manipulated. Maybe a Couple’s Choice week at the halfway point would work? Make it an even playing field)

I genuinely think I am a lone dissenter here, but I loathe drag with a passion so not seeing a drag contestant on SCD is no hardship for me.

No offence to any contributors here who are drag artistes or those that enjoy it. Just not for me.:)

Agreed. Jayde had some sort of self indulgent narrative every week; doing it for the big girls, dancing to Adele as she was an Adele impersonator, her sister and then she even tried to make grief porn out of her Victoria Wood charleston by saying ‘we lost her in 2016’ even though she didn’t know her! I think there would’ve much more to come if she’d stayed so I’m glad we’ve been spared that at least.

Gosh, yes. I can absolutely see it! I’ve thought this for a long time….you can tell she finds it all incredibly frustrating. Last night at the end of the show, you could see her in the background, back to camera, and it looked like she was giving him a right tickin’ off!
