I felt awful for her. Sasha (her pro) done an interview and said the poor girl actually had to swallow her sick down seconds before the doors opened for her to perform.

Jeez, the poor woman!

I really think the shows maybe need to dial it down a bit. Everybody watching is human, we're not expecting everyone to be amazing and I'm sure no viewer would want a celebrity to risk injury or ill health just for a bit of fluffy Saturday night telly.

Kind of related to all the training hours and injury stuff, but I found the way the show dealt with AJ's injury a bit off - before she withdrew, Craig was giving interviews saying he'd had a similar injury and carried on after an injection, Tess was on This Morning giving vague hints that it was all ok, and then there was that weird interview with Janette on ITT

Just a general vibe of 'the show must go on' even though it was quite obvious she was had a bad injury - I just hope they weren't putting too much pressure on her before she got the doctor's verdict
I have no idea obviously, but I find it hard to believe that Craig and Janette, who have been in the dance world for decades, didn't know almost immediately that there was no way AJ could dance with that kind of ligament injury. Maybe they were just being tactful until she had got the bad news and digested it?

RE: Katie, I think it's funny that before she started she made all these headlines with 'Maura has nothing to worry about' and 'I'm not going to steal Gio' and then she made the impact of the dampest of squibs
I’d forgotten about this! 🤣 did we ever get any info on where those Gio rumours came from? I couldn’t find any trace of them pre her signing up to strictly, and really didn’t have her pinned down as Gios type… was pretty shocked when he never denied a romance either, given he never usually shies away from it. pretty sure the blokes got a constant tab open with his name googled

I don’t think so. I think they wanted to still allow her to be a part of the final week (press conferences, interviews, ITT etc) but I think deep down everyone knew she wouldn’t be dancing from pretty early on.

I hope that was the case. Although if it happens again, maybe they should keep Janette away from any ITT interviews that require a bit of sensitivity 😆

From what I remember of what she said, it wasn’t that clear on the first scan, which at least showed it wasn’t broken. The rupture was only apparent by weds/thursday. The final decision was made friday morning, but AJ was begging to still take part, she was very determined ( what she said on the friday ITT).
I do think she knew much earlier that she couldn’t do the tour and she flew to Vietnam a week before she said she did (the day after the announcement ). it seems like a presenter had dropped out, giving her the opportunity to do it now she was free.

Janette was AWFUL with the interview.

Louisa Lytton's fantastic Jive was done on very little rehearsal time back in Series 4.

I tend to think though that 3 hours just was nowhere near enough for Katie. I'd say 6-8 is sufficient. I always thought it was stupid to do 12 hour days, if you're not an athlete, surely that will really increase the risk of injury? The average moderately active person could never do 12 hours a day of dancing for weeks on end.

Exactly. There needs to be balance. I was shocked at how exhausted super fit athlete Adam was and the constant pain his feet were in.

Sasha was strange, no idea why he thought it was a good idea to brag about making a girl half his age perform live when literally about to throw up. It's as if he was clueless about the optics of that situation and how it makes him look. There was something so off about that partnership (rumour has it Suni didn't like him but did actually get on well with other people in the cast) and I really felt sorry for her the entire season, especially that night.

Wait, was that Sunisa Lee? I LOVE her and I'm furious on her behalf!

I find this utterly horrific - imagine pushing somebody so hard when they're ill, all for the sake of entertainment TV! Not to mention how many people in the studio would be exposed to a stomach bug. Not cool - with those you stay home!

The thing is, to competitively minded people, like Olympic athletes, it's not just a bit of lighthearted, fluffy entertainment, it's a competition and failure and weakness are unacceptable. And they all encourage this kind of mindset in each other and see it as being positive/supportive/inspiring etc, not toxic. She thanked the whole cast for encouraging her to get through it.

I thought I read somewhere that she had requested him? Not that she couldn't have done so and then come to regret it, of course. I did get the impression that they seemed a bit colder towards each other later in the competition. As far as I'm aware all of his other partners speak of him highly, but who knows what went on. 🤷‍♀️

I think she requested him as Simone also had him as a partner and she loved the experience. I don’t think they disliked each other but sometimes people just don’t click.

I get all that. I personally think it's dreadful though - just my opinion, I'm not right or wrong! I'm aware that the industry works like this, but that doesn't change my mind on finding it borderline abusive, tbh.

There was too much of an age difference IMO for Suni & Sasha to work as a partnership, how many 18 year olds and 37 year olds are going to hit it off? And Suni was probably a fairly young 18 mentally given that she came from the gymnastics bubble.

It would be like Strictly putting Tilly with Neil (from the start and not just a last minute substitute on tour) and even then, Tilly is at least in her 20s.

Suni apparently was getting on well with some of the younger pros off camera, might have been a much better experience if she had someone within a decade of her age.

Good lord, how toxic! They were actually telling her she'd regret it if she didn't dance... I actually can't, this is horrible.
Hmm, if I'm interpreting that line correctly, it seems to be saying that her problem was more that she felt so embarrassed about having to run off set to throw up after the dance than it was about actually feeling unwell.

I had a vomiting bug once where I felt absolutely fine except when I was actually throwing up. She might have had the same sort of bug, and felt totally normal in between each bout.

They were pointing out that if she didn't perform, they'd still have to fill the airtime with something and were going to play the dress rehearsal, which she just walked through. So I guess they meant it like, 'if you're embarrassed now, imagine how embarrassed you'll feel and how much you'll regret it if everyone sees that footage.'

Still fucked up of course, especially with her being so young. She might think she's glad she fought through it now, and come to feel she was bullied into it in years to come. I don't like the whole attitude at all. The producers should have just let her have the week off. But I understand it's the attitude all, well - most - performers have, or they couldn't do what they do.

But it's definitely fucked up. Such slavish devotion to the mantra 'the show must go on - no matter what' can't be healthy for anyone involved.

This is much better put than my garbled nonsense. 👏😅

Yep, I definitely don't like it either, but I try not to judge any of them too harshly for espousing it, it's so engrained in the industry it'd be hard for anyone to break free of the echo chamber of "mind over matter" "no pain no gain" etc
