I've seen lots of people bring up 'congrats on your spins' as an example of Gio choreographing poorly/faffing about/showcasing himself etc, but the youtube comments under the dance say that he had to change the routine last minute because she injured her ankle, and most samba steps would put a lot of strain on it. Is that true?

I think that is true - just that the way she said it and their general uneasy relationship made it feel much more loaded than it was! (they are great spins, to be fair)
