Shirley has to be crazy. I know some of her defenders try to say the criticisms of her are unfair but she does not help herself when does things like this, she's literally inviting herself another tsunami of Twitter abuse. She hasn't learned a thing in 6 series so time to move her on.

she's vile - she got her claws into Fleur from the off and she picks on Ellie T something awful too. It's so obvious when she doesn't like female contestants.
Completely agree. They could both dance on the ceiling or stand on their heads but it wouldn't matter. She has her knife firmly in them and has had with Fleur in particular from the first night. Meanwhile she drools over most of the men apart from Matt, and possibly Tony.

To be fair, she is an equal opportunities disliker … she obviously has something against Matt and not just that he knocked out her Kai last week.
Is it Matt she hates though or Nadiya? Back in her early days she was really nit picky with Karen’s partners - she’s probably a long time family friend of Kevin’s and maybe she’s not happy Kai is doing the horizontal tango with Nadiya 🤷🏻‍♀️

From DS: Craig, Motsi & Anton saved Fleur Shirley said she would have saved Ritchie.
Can't believe (can believe!) Shirley would have saved that samba over Fleur's dance. Honestly she can get in the bin.

Quite often the head judge claims they would have saved the eliminated couple, Len used to do it too. I’ve always suspected it’s said in an attempt to make whoever is leaving feel like they’re not utterly useless and didn’t make a complete tit of themselves in the dance off. I’ve never assumed it to be a genuine indication of how they would have actually voted had it counted.

I feel like Shirley says she'd have picked the other couple just to make a point. Didn't she say she'd have saved Kaye and Kai last week? It's a meaningless comment from her because it makes no difference when the other three are unanimous but it's either a) her offering some consolation to the eliminated couple or b) her trying to make it look like the other judges are wrong. I lean towards the latter though it would be nice if it was the former. I've always thought that if the vote is split between the judges then it should come down to the public vote rather than a head judge who has shown bias against female contestants.

oh absolutely, she's really hard on Matt and he could do with the gentle touch she applies to people she likes
I must be getting soft in my old age, but I don’t think anyone should be subjected to unnecessarily harsh comments … and the Booking Pixies who have to wrangle celebs into appearing every year must bash their head against the wall. Nadiya spent all week building Matt up from the dance off and then he gets chopped off at the knees and she has to start all over again for next week

the issue is that the judges have to submit their votes in advance. So Shirley presumably felt Richie deserved to be saved. Now whether the four of them chat backstage in the break beofre the second show about who they will vote for is a different thing.. but on paper, if one of the others had gone a different way that samba would have ditched Fleur out!

They don’t know who the others have voted for though … they input it into the score pad before Tess asks them … so it’s all her own work

I cannot fathom how the producers looked at Hamza, and looked at Movies week, and did not say:

"Right gang, we've got an adorable, sweet-natured celebrity who talks to animals and lives out in the wilds of nowhere and has incredibly long hair. And we've also got the ability to use at least a couple of Disney Princess movies, and we are in an era of Strictly where we can genderswap characters with ease. Bearing all of these facts in mind, what should we give him?"

No! Not a ballroom dance featuring the adorably sweet-natured Disney princess who talks to animals, lives out in the wilds of nowhere and has incredibly long hair!

Jurassic Park Rumba. That'll bring the viewers in!

I hadn't realised they had to submit their dance-off decision onto a score pad too. Although, theoretically, what's to stop her saying something different once Craig, Motsi and Anton have revealed who they want to save and the couple knows they're eliminated? I doubt she would since it could kick up a fuss but she could change her vote once it doesn't make any difference what she says if she wanted to be nice and offer some consolation for the eliminated couple.

I just can't conceive of how anyone could look at Fleur and Richie and think that he deserves to stay over her unless she went really wrong (in which case other judges would have felt the same)

Do they have to do that for the dance off, though? I know they have to submit their scores for the main show before the end of the dance in order for the screen graphics to be prepared, but why would they need to vote in advance for the dance off when it’s not live? There’s plenty of time to edit afterwards, so I don’t understand what purpose an advance dance-off vote would serve

Apparently they do. I guess it's to stop them being influenced by what others say. But I wouldn't be shocked if that wasn't set in stone or Shirley changed her mind etc #(remember her putting up the wrong paddle for Tyler (?) and then just going with the higher mark?

to be honest, I can’t understand why she would do that if she didn’t have to … after the whole ‘Shirley hates pretty young girls’ comments that follow her around every year, why make things harder for yourself if you didn’t have to?

she just believed so strongly in the integrity of that content-packed samba! you know, the bit when Gio snogged her, and then when they waved their arses around before spending 10 seconds in hold with Richie looking like he was on a fast spin at the laundrette 😂
