Tony’s 2 was unfair when Craig was handing others questionable higher scores . If he’d gone with a 4 I don’t think people would’ve been as raging. If they weren’t marking his dance ability he should’ve at least got a few more marks for his characterisation. At least his faffing was actually recognisable inspiration from the film.

a 2 is an insult tbh. to me, it means you barely danced or maybe only managed one or two actual steps. tony isn’t a great dancer sure but the routine was fun, there was content in it and he looked like he was enjoying it. considering the scores others were getting a 2 was ridiculous - a 4 would have been much fairer.

I don’t know if anyone saw Shirley’s tweet earlier saying that she has a good judgement because she’s a world champion dancer but that tweet just proves everyone else’s issues. Not only is she required to be a critical judge on the show, but she’s being expected to lead a TV show panel, this isn’t a world championship dance contest, it’s beginners dancing in front of the country and she needs to learn that her personal bias’ are ruining the show for the contestants and viewers

The problem is that Shirley gets awful hate messages (and will get more later when people see the results show), and seems to think because of that that no criticism is valid. This happened last series and it becomes this big thing about 'trolls' etc. Nobody should be a dick to her on SM but she might also pause and reflect occasionally on what she's doing..

My views:
Richie- rubbish samba in onesie.
Kym- fab charleston
James - fwoarggh enjoyed his dance, done stylishly.
Will - great at the hips, just don't like him much
Matt - like him but he can't dance (yet)
Molly - good dance but found it forgettable (in comparison to the epic tunes/energy played on the nigt)
Helen - fab
Hazma - he can move so use him well Pro, thought the Jurassic tune was just repetitive (yawn)
Tyrone- great but almost too much going on
Ellie- terrible cha cha
Ellie- it wasn't her best
Tony - he's trying his best! And got my vote for Craig's low 2.
Fleur - was v impressed
Jayde (put off last week when she referred to herself as a past Adele drag artist, mm no you were an Adele impressionist). However I like her dance but being overweight isn't something to aspire to.

she’s also completely inconsistent. if she was out here always scoring like a world championship then i’d think she was harsh but you know what you’re getting, she’s just completely erratic and only consistent in taking instant dislikes to certain (usually female) contestants.

I agree he was stitched up. I can't decide if it was by the show for the styling, or Gio who didn't bother much with the routine, or both. Maybe there just wasn't much that could have been done with those costumes, though we've seen Gio before do a lot with unpromising material (Lonely Goatherd!)

Just my opinion:

I think the issue was that it was suppose to be a fun, entertaining, joke number but it landed flat on its arse. everything was cringe but not in a fun way. there wasn’t enough dancing to save it and i don’t think Richie sold the number either. For example, Tony’s was cringe af but it was funny and entertaining and he gave it 100%. The bloke from eastenders was cringe but there was dancing in it and he was giving it a go and looked like he was enjoying. I don’t think Richie gave that vibe.

It's very mean and considering that 9s and 10s were being lashed out, a 4 would have been a lot fairer.

On the plus side, it possibly pushed votes Tony's way and between that and people voting for him due to his football career, I hope he stays in for quite some time yet.

i hope so too! he seems a lovely man and i think watching someone enjoy a dance is more than any perfect technique or steps - he’s definitely able to connect with the audience.

it’s also probably been mentioned but i loved him holding his jacket closed over his bare chest all shy when they were with claudia 🤣 tony, we’d already seen it at that point!!

There's probably an element of internalised misogyny in Shirley's comments but I think part of it is that she just holds the women to higher standards because she's comparing them to her own achievements and abilities? Not that this makes it ok because she shouldn't have lower standards for the men, whatever the reason

Another thing that bothered me last night was in her comments to Matt and she suddenly went all strict or 'lady captain' as Anton would say - talking like a teacher telling off a naughty class. NO ONE wants that on a Saturday night entertainment show - it's not the same as Craig's panto villain act and it makes for a really uncomfortable atmosphere

Exactly, he seems very nice, and he is really getting into the spirit of things now.
He won't ever be the best by a long chalk but entertainment wise, last night, he was my favourite.

I must be getting soft in my old age, but I don’t think anyone should be subjected to unnecessarily harsh comments
Completely agree.
It is an entertainment show. I thought Shirley was very harsh with Ellie T. Going on about 'it's week 3 and you should have mastered toe leads by now' (or whatever it was). She should listen to herself - it is week 3. For a complete novice. That is nothing.

Last night I felt bad for Richie. Yes, the dance was a mess but he was having fun and he didn’t do anything wrong but because of the judges overmarking, he became a target of a lot of trolls online. This is why the judging needs to be better and more professional, some of the tweets were really harsh but only because of the overmarking, if the judges had scored him in a better way, he wouldn’t have received so many harsh comments online. The judging is appalling and I was so excited for Anton to be a judge but he’s just as a bad as Shirley and Motsi.

I was just about to say similar.

She didn't roll out the 'it's week three' until that point so no surprise it was to Ellie T, whom she seems to dislike, and yes, Shirley, it's week three, not week nine FGS!

She has been harsh on Fleur from day one also.

This is point I’ve made about characterisation and the numbers working in their favour. Tony and James embodied their characters. Ritchie and gio were like something from a kids dance show. Unnecessary faffing pisses me off and they faffed last week (it wasn’t a proper quickstep in my eyes) and lacked content and did the same this week. At least some of the other pros at least try with their weaker celebs

I don’t think G could really be arsed and he didn’t get the same sex partnership he wanted. He wanted John and Johannes or someone with bags of ability who was sexy like him. Instead he got a camp brummy who couldn’t really dance and didn’t have the ability and was always going to be an earlier out staying no longer than Halloween. It’s quite obvious to me he can’t really handle celebs like Ritchie because he’s so used to getting Georgia’s and Fayes.

Re shirls

I can’t work her out sometimes. She does have bias but I think all the judges have at one point or another. But I think @LowCalCalzoneZone is probably that she holds some celebs to a higher standard especially ones with dance experience.

But sometimes the hatred goes to far. I’m not her biggest fan but hating on her for telling your fave they need to turn their feet out or that they were off time in most cases is fair comment. Where I have issue is her dishing out completely random scores (but then so do all the judges)
If she could just stop lusting after the men then she’d probably be a bit more bearable.

(but maybe I’m looking at this from a dancers pov and growing up in the overly critical ballet world)

Yeah, I know it was the first routine and supposed to create a positive vibe but starting with 'an awful lot of samba content there', and basically giving him only praise and no critique for that horror show just undermined her.

I’ve just decided that I’m going to vote for Tony rabidly for as long as he stays in the show just to piss off all of the miserable fuckers over on the DS Strictly forum who are currently foaming at the mouth about him. I bet they’re a fun lot at parties, I don’t miss that place at all. They take is way too seriously!

A bit like when Len (couldn't stand the man myself) would switch from the grinning, happy east end, pickled walnuts bloke to an angry face showing his genuine nasty streak.

And I wish Anton would stop lady captaining her - she relishes the title and i see her head grow bigger than Motsi's hair.

Annoying is that Richie actually wants to dance (and can) he doesn't want to be the joke candidate.

Wish the production team would realise the audience (unless you're a child) don't want joke dancers.

The image in my head right now 🤣... if that happens they will have to give her a desk and chair all to herself, away from the others. 🤣
