And Chris Ramsey too - he tried hard, was popular, made it to the semis, didn’t get made into a laughing stock. I’ve often wondered if CR’s decent run might have been a factor in BB deciding to do it.

There have been surprisingly few comedians on SCD, and I don’t think the Seannnnnnnn debacle helped much in that respect, but I think CR & BB have made it a more appealing proposition.

Yes, although, I saw Chris as far more mainstream. More of a Mr Saturday Night type of personality. Whereas, I was very surprised at Bill as I thought he'd be more of the type of comic who'd be rather sniffy and cynical of a show like Strictly.

Also, Chris's TV career was on the wane a bit when he signed up, whereas Bill's definitely wasn't - it was more that he had a gap in his diary because he couldn't tour and thought he'd try something a bit different. I wouldn't have thought he'd do Strictly in a million years!

He's very musical though, so probably knew he'd be reasonably ok for a few weeks and least, and it sounded like trying the dancing just appealed to him.

And arguably, if you're a celeb, rather than paying for beginners lessons and having lots of people saying "ooh that's Bill Bailey", you get paid quite a lot for having private lessons and far more attention put into your dancing that a teacher in a normal situation would give you!

Absolutely. Bill's career has been going great guns for years. It really was a case of learning a new skill and taking on a new challenge when the opportunity presented itself. Like yourself, he was never someone who I imagined would be up for doing Strictly whatsoever.

Who would you like to see?
I've been thinking about this and it is quite hard. There are obviously people I like, but also people I think would be good entertainment and the two things aren't always the same 😂
For instance as an older man I think Richard Madeley would be highly entertaining, and possibly quite good as he has an athletic frame. But he is a bit of a knob.
Tbh as long as it isn't Joe bloody Swash these days I'm happy. Though I see he is on Celebrity Masterchef 🥴

I'd not heard of John Whaite before but he's already pissing me off with the constant stories his PR team are obviously putting out in the media. Already getting feelings of another Will Young who'll not be able to take any constructive criticism.

Been loving seeing Nicola Adams talking today on the Olympics. She's so interesting and lovely and can't understand how she ended up coming across as boring on strictly. If she is back, I hope they try her with someone else as Katya didn't work

I'd put money on it, John Whaite will answer Craig back, On Stephs packed lunch he gets digs in about little stuff, Steph once said something like she loved Simon Rimmer or one of his dishes was her favourite, well it did not go down well with JW , digs about Simon being the favourite, not as good as Simons etc etc... It wasn't funny, it was bitchy I thought... I am so disappointed with the "celebs" so far

I always had that impression of RM too, but he was a guest on Countdown recently (they have the same guest for 5 shows in a row) and I quite liked him! He wasn't boastful or namedroppy, which I would have expected. I'd be interested to see someone like him give Strictly a go - good shout!
Yeah I've no interest in Joe Swash or his wife/fiancée/whatever she is - bad enough having Tom "it's all about me" Fletcher 🙄

I don't see this so far as any better or worse than previous years line up tbh. Although Tom I'd annoying he is a pretty big name for strictly.

If you watch John's Bake Off series he was such a lovely guy, quite humble and very talented. But he has become borderline obnoxious and arrogant. His recent comments about not being offered support after bake off just smacked of jumping on the love island band wagon. It was bake off not love island, and he was on it back when it was on bbc2 and was still quite niche. These are grown adults and you do know to a large extent what you're getting into when you go on tv. Most contestants just go back to their lives and have no issue, but if you choose to engage in the fame and celebrity and social media circuit that's your choice. I can completely see him being a will young.

I quite like him too because it’s almost like he’s a parody, or he’s the actual Alan Partridge. Watching poor Judy clearly exasperated by him on This Morning was highly entertaining!

He did that segment once on Ant and Dec where they speak into their ear and get them to do stupid stuff (see typing that out, I could be talking about SMTV it’s so juvenile 😂) and RM was so funny, no problem taking the piss out of himself.

The other one that sticks in my mind if those was Peter Crouch who had to pretend to be hiding behind/under things that were much shorter than him. I’m sure I read somewhere he’d been rumoured for Strictly too

No doubt he’ll whinge about homophobia if he doesn’t get very far as well. I pity his poor partner already!

If he does this he'll soon be shown the door. There's nothing I hate more on strictly than when a contestant thinks they know more than the judges. Its rate the celebs are really criticised and even with Craig if you actually listen, he gives good advice to get better rather than just slag them off for entertainment

I quite like John Whaite, he has done some great Instagram baking content in lockdown. He was very young when he did GBBO (21 or 22?) and a bit like X Factor it was at the stage where the production company had realised what they could get out of a winner, i.e. some formulaic books that would sell well, probably without much of that money going to the contestant.

He does come across as a little bitter about it all, even though he wouldn’t have the platform he has now without it.

All-male or all-female partnerships don’t bother me at all and if that’s what someone else believes to be a boost in representation then more power to them. I don’t see it myself as I don’t see being dance partners as an analogy for a relationship but if someone is happier dancing with a particular partner then great, they’re still only being scored on the dancing!

John is from the food industry, those types of celebs can be hard work. I still remember the late Gary Rhodes was basically impossible for Karen Hardy to teach. And then he slammed the judges when he left, obviously the chef ego couldn’t take being crap at it.

It’s an interesting tactic, becoming an annoying and piss the viewers off before the show has even started!!!!

I do think a lot of the viewers do view the same-sex partnership as performative and “PC gone mad” and like I think it was @Mark81 said the other day (apologies if it wasn’t you), the BBC doing it for the wrong reasons. But this a great opportunity for them to let people see how it can be a good thing. I hope he doesn’t waste the opportunity by being a tosser.

I know they were both pros but the clip of Artem and James was amazing!

Richard Madeley would be my dream signing. The only contestant in history who’s tan would need to be toned down.

Apparently he dropped out of the 2010 series at the last minute and they replaced him with Matt Baker.

I'd like Madeley to do it but I have visions of him being rubbish - tall, awkward mover, flailing limbs and no real sense of the music like with Anneka Rice.

He was apparently Natalie's celeb for 2010 and Scott Maslen would have had Aliona instead. I guess Amy, Oti or Nadiya now. Wonder why he did drop out at the 11th hour.
