Lots of the couples over the years get on and talk up their friendship/have cute interactions, but I guess friendships are taken more at face value even though everyone is "performing" in a sense still

The Mollie and AJ thing was so bizarre - I think after one of their dances, everyone was chanting 'kiss her' or something like that? I remember thing lol what is happening

Every year I think the curse stuff is nonsense and over-exaggerated and then I remember 2018 when half the cast were apparently at it 😆. But I do think if a celeb doesn't come from a performance background (where being more tactile in a professional way is more normalised), if must be quite overwhelming, to have their partner pretty much devote everything to them for weeks/months and be in such close proximity to them - I can understand how crushes develop

I wonder how they feel when the attention ceases, say Louise Redknapp (with Kev) or Ranvir who seemed both smitten with Gio plus using him as a confidence boosting buoyancy aid. Like the rug has been pulled from under your feet when it is all over.)

Strictly ending must feel like a massive come down for anyone regardless, but then for some celebs, I think it's a stark reminder that you're not actually the centre of that person's world after all. I mean, they obviously know this because it is just a dancer's job, but it still must smart a bit on some level

I think it's been mentioned here before, but I always thought Emma Weymouth developed a massive crush on Aljaz and seemed genuinely devastated when it was over - she wasn't from the showbiz world so maybe got a bit confused with Aljaz and his general loveliness. Not that there was anything really in it - they're clearly all good pals now

Only in talks but her memoirs? Broadway? I get she was very big in the dance world but I’m a bit surprised she would get a Broadway show out of her life!

100% I think Emma fell for Aljaz! I think how he comes across on the show/ITT is how he is all the time so maybe the positive, undivided attention/confidence boosting was what she needed at the time. They still keep in touch, I follow Aljaz and he and Janette still go to Emma’s for lunch.

All the intensity, close personal contact, acting emotions even if you don’t feel it…imagine how rubbish that must be if you don’t get on with your partner…

I jumped when Johannes ran past the camera, not sure where I thought he was going to come from 😂

It was a spectacular dance and the dramatic music helped too. I’m interested to see how this week will go - I’m assuming they will be in hold a lot more but he’s far from a one trick pony.

I saw James Jordan said John had dance experience, but I don’t know if he meant at stage school or in terms of lessons?

I couldn’t get the article to open properly but 9/15 is quite a lot - but then it’s like that every year I guess. Learning about the beat of the music and placings and finishing moves etc does put someone at a bit of an advantage - Len Goodman said on GMB a few weeks ago that he has no problem with same sex couples but does have an issue with contestants with previous dance training
 
I suppose it depends on how much dance training and what type. If we exclusively go for people with absolutely 0 dance experience, we'd have no guarantee of any decent dancing at all not to mention a reduced casting pool for potential celebs.

As if Len can talk about that anyway - he judges DWTS which is chock-a-block with ringers every season.

But then most kids do ballet or drama lessons when school age, it’s not unusual really. I would expect any actor to have had stage school training, which includes dance.
I had 3 years of ballroom and latin classes in the late 70s as a young teen, but I doubt it would help me now if I was a celeb, I was chosen for strictly
 
Let’s face it, if you’re an actor or in the public eye in some way there’s a good chance you’ve had some previous dance experience. Theatre school, dance lessons, whatever. Having good dancers on the show makes it more entertaining. They’re not necessarily trained in ballroom and Latin, they just know how to move and learn choreo.

DWTS had Zendaya on it for goodness sake. She began her career as a back up dancer then was on Disney channel on Shake it up - a show about dancing.
 
And as we know, the best dancer doesn’t always win! I’ll be the first to admit, I’m still shocked AJ hasn’t had any dance training because she’s bloody good…but it’s boring when they’re that good that early and I kind of lose interest.

I think Kai is channeling this “are they aren’t they” because he knows enough about the show to play the game. Last year I think Ranvir and Giovanni both decided to create the “I’m blossoming from a dowdy divorcee, will I fall in love with my partner?” story because people do become invested in it. She was as desperate to win as much as he was and yes she turned into a better Ballroom dancer but she wasn’t going to win on her dancing alone imo
 
I think there's a difference between going to theatre school (like Tom), or having a lot of dance/theatre experience (like Rhys) and having dance lessons as a youngster. Just as there is then a difference between those and having no dance experience whatsoever.
Having said that, the British public has always been very selective about who they resented for ringerdom - Jay and Caroline were both beloved despite their extensive dance experience..

I don’t know how anyone looked at Ranvir & Giovanni and genuinely thought they were going to end up together. It was very clear that she was into him and he just played into it for the cameras. In my opinion at least AJ & Kai actually seem to have a decent connection, whereas I don’t think Ranvir & Giovanni had that.

I think there were reports afterwards that Ranvir and Giovanni didn’t even like each other that much, which shone a light on the fakeness of it all.

I’m completely cynical by nature which is why I think there’s always ‘something’! I would like nothing more than them to get together if they like each other. But all I can see just now is him knowing AJ is very good early on = people voting for the personal journey or the slow burner or the person they didn’t think they’d like but now love, and they need something else
