paso's my fave and you all know how much I love j+j. the very idea of it is almost enough to make it my favourite number on this whole show before it even exists!

anyhoo, john's partner was also on steph's packed lunch today, dismissing concerns of "the curse" based on the fact john can barely walk when he gets home... so that's nice

Unsure on this. If it's ok for the celeb to choose the gender of their partner, or to state they don't want to wear dresses when they dance then it should be ok. On the other hand, if choosing a song adds familiarity, confidence and a lack of need to learn rhythm, then it might not be ok. Choosing their place in the order of dances would be the biggest no no for me but it's a tricky issue.
 
I'm sure other contestants have mentioned they get asked about their favourite songs and whether any have significant meaning to them when they sign up unless I completely made that up?

Yes, they do. I don’t think get as much input as they did in earlier series, but they do get asked about songs they especially like or that have significance to them ( e.g Susan Calman ‘Bring me Sunshine’; Bill Bailey, ‘Enter Sandman’).

So who knows, maybe the Muppets theme was on Robert’s list of all time favourites 😆
 
I don't for a second believe John will wander, he keeps mentioning his partner every week and he sounds so sweet. I think J&J has just become good friends. However Jo is my absolute favourite pro dancer and I don't want to think he would do that 😂
Who decides on the songs/dances and choreography? I thought it was the pro dancers but not I'm not sure!

The pro and the celeb get a degree of input, but nowadays it’s less than they used to get, and it’s not unknown for a hideous theme/song to be pushed by the producers because they have a particular narrative they want to spin.

There’s no way a pro dancer would voluntarily choose some of the totally unsuitable songs/themes that get chosen. I do know of one case (via an acquaintance who was on the show) where the pro/celeb refused point blank to do a really stupid ‘comedy’ theme/song as they were very uncomfortable with it, and it created a lot of tension with TPTB. The theme/song was apparently later ‘gifted’ to a different couple in the same series.

It could be but if I recall correctly Stacey Dooley's partner was similarly confident about the "curse" and they did stay together for a bit after the show until they broke up and she did end up with Kevin. So we never really know.

That makes sense. I dread to think what happens backstage with the amount of gossip and backstabbing there could be!
