Tbh there wasn’t really an opening for a male pro till Kev/pasha/aj all left and Anton went to judge.
He was probably on the radar as he knew everyone and is British. If he’d joined earlier he risked being left on the bench for years.

I wondered if they held off because as the new British Pro he was always likely get a lot of attention so they wanted him to be a bit older before they heaped that amount of pressure on him.

Yes, plus last year there were less pros/celebrities anyway, so even experienced ones got benched. He was in the pro dance lineup that year though. He got that due to DWTS being cancelled for 2020.
Just noticed he won the ‘Best pro’ poll on Digitalspy forum - pretty good for his first year!

I always thought he was likely going to be a full Pro in 2020 line up but the numbers being cut down meant they didn't announce him. They often have uncredited dancers in the Pro dances but I've never known one to get a lead role in a dance like Kai was for Remembrance Sunday that year.

Take with a pinch of salt since from The Sun but apparently they want to bring in Oti's other sister to replace her:

First it was the Cliftons, now it's the Mabuses. I hope they are a bit more creative when hiring a replacement, I think they need to hire someone 25 or a bit younger as only Jowita is under 30 as opposed to 4 guys in their 20s.

Slightly off topic but as a lifelong lover of NFL, seeing Dan Walker's wooden performances on Strictly is completely spoiling my enjoyment of NFL coverage. He’s somehow become even more wooden on screen next to Jason Bell and Osi Umenyiora’s exuberance. I’m bewildered as to why the BBC seem to be so obsessed with pimping him out. He’s probably a nice bloke but he just comes across as being dull and wooden.

I stumbled upon him doing this the other week and was so shocked that he presented NFL, apparently the does it every week 🤷

I agree they should bring in younger fresh blood to replace Oti, if she is actually leaving. We can do without another Mabuse.

At least there was no conflict of interest with the Clifton’s

I thought that sister no longer danced? I am pretty sure I have heard of her having a career outside of dance.
I can't see them hiring anyone that is 35, in dancing years that's pretty old and they like to get at least 5 years out of a Pro now a days.

Rylan is looking FIT! 🔥🔥

To be fair, Len would basically know any of the British pros, as he’s been a judge so long. He even judged a competition I took part in, back in my teenage latin dancing years! Everyone knows him.

It's like Shirley been known to the Pritchards, the Ballroom world is pretty small especially if you have been part of it for decades there will be lots of links between them all.

Oh wow Rylan Talk about a glow up!!!

She’s an engineer now, can’t see her changing. As they have Jowita and Luba who can be named pros then really no need for Oti replacement, otherwise there must be plenty of UK talent they can choose.

I’m not disagreeing, I just meant that it was a persistent rumour going about that Len was Kevin’s godfather, which - if it was true - is as much a conflict of interest as the one Captain Mouse said there was.

ETA - this article said the rumour started on a Strictly forum. I bet I know which one 😂

I think it's just a case of the Sun thinking 'hmm what would make nice bit of clickbait?' I don't for a second think Strictly would hire someone who hasn't danced in years (and it doesn't sound like she would be interested anyway)

Half expecting an article about how they're thinking of hiring Katya's mum because she's taken ballroom lessons

I heard they were asking Dan back as a pro because he enjoyed himself so much and he was a hit with the fans….😉

I love Oti and like Motsi well enough, but I actually find it bonkers that she judges her sister and nobody says anything.
I think as the competition is supposed to be completely about the celebrities ability and the judging is always directed towards the celebrity it doesn’t seem to matter. I know it’s the professional who teaches the celebrity and is the one who’s going to help and show their partner how to take on the improvements they’re given, but at the end of the day it’s always the celebrity that gets the corrections and judgment on the night.
Then again she did win twice in a row with her sister on the judging panel.
