Steve’s family vlogs #2 Always in a lockdown

It’s sad seeing someone let their child down so much. The other school could have been amazing for her. He just didn’t want to drive the extra distance to get her to and from it twice a day. When he was talking about that school, taking her there was what he mentioned. So he’s done home schooling to make only his life easier and so he doesn’t have to work now Chloe is in school. He’s turning her into him. He’s anxious when he’s out, she’s anxious when she’s out. He won’t go out if he’s wearing joggers, she wouldn’t go out without that coat.
 
Yes they are all turning into him. The way he asks them questions too. It’s all are you nervous ? You don’t want to go do you? Instead a normal parent would ask if they were excited or were they looking forward to seeing their friends again. I guess the sudden appearece of Rachel’s sisters kid was so he could get a run to school every morning .
 
Back to school week!

I see nothing has changed. Chloe's hair is yet again being damaged by hair straightening, the kids are on devices before school and at the dinner table and the junk food packed lunches are back.

I honestly don't think they realise how Mild Lacey's form of Autism is. There are people who cant feed themselves, get dressed or go to the toilet independently, they are not even verbal. Lacey has High functioning Autism. Yes, she needs support but that doesn't mean she should be treated like a 5 year old.

At school she was doing the same work as Liam but needed a 1-1 support. How come she has regressed so much? She should be in a specialist school and she should be in counselling or therapy for her Anxiety. They are doing nothing to help her mental health.

What was the P.E lesson in the hot tub all about? All of the other children as well as Rachel are getting exercise everyday through work and school. Steve and Lacey are getting none at all, that really isn't good in terms of health.

I have had to stop watching as a parent with child with autism very similar to Lacey, I can't watch as they literally but food shopping before there child's needs.
 
If going to school was affecting Lacey so much that they had to remove her why are they not doing anything to help her?

Why is she not seeing a therapist or a counsellor? Why are they not working with other professionals in order to manage her anxiety?

They are making the situation so much worse and I wouldn't be surprised if they try and get Chloe tested and diagnosed with ADHD at some point.
 
This is spot on. Back in the 80s and 90s when we were at school people like Lacey were just thought of as a bit odd. She doesn’t need to be treated much different to a ‘normal’ kid. Just a little bit of effort education-wise and intervention with a psychologist (maybe) about her anxiety and she’d have got by in life fine. Sadly though she’ll end up a recluse I expect.

I suspect Steve is being overly protective and has inadvertently made Lacey more of a recluse by mollycoddling her as he naturally feels sympathetic she has a learning difference, but hasn’t realised how much damage this will cause in the long run. Lacey is going to struggle massively after education concludes as the way she is learning is not helping her (she has apparently forgotten all she learnt over summer bless her). If and when the time comes she has a job or needs to attend appointments and finds it hard to know what day or time it is it’s going to be very hard for her to be independent at all.

I really feel for her because she must feel frustrated and demotivated now she’s forgot a lot of stuff. I think they could have at least given the specialist school a try and if she was unhappy of course take her out of it. It seems like they just want to keep her as close as possible which might be okay now but when she’s older she’s gonna struggle to let go and be independent.

Also I wonder what options Sophie picked for GCSEs I know this is a random question but I’m curious what she wants to do after school.
 
The thing I find hard to understand is them not doing anything about her anxiety. She needs help before it gets worse. She’s not going to grow out of it, she’ll just end up being an adult with anxiety. She needs help with coping mechanisms and support to participate in things. They need to at least get on the camhs waiting list. They’re doing nothing and that’s where they’re failing as her parents. She’ll grow up believing that’s just how she is or that she can’t join in with her peers etc.

I fully support any parent who wishes to home educate, but they’re not doing enough. The stuff he has her doing is pathetic. She always seemed to have the same work as Liam in the past but with some support. He claims she forgets stuff and doesn’t take it in yet does nothing to continue her learning for 6/7 weeks. There’s no visual supports around the house or even just her desk area. They got sent some good maths learning supports and I think they’ve had them out once. Very nice of the person who sent him that too.

Of course it isn’t easy having a child with additional needs, but that doesn’t mean you just take the lazy option.
 
Sorry to go off topic for a sec - can anyone recommend any similar UK family vlogs that are uploaded daily/often? (Well as similar as it could be 😂) thanks.

I watch The Stephenson Gretch family (usually daily vlogs), our little Waterhouse family (although not very often vlogs), Emilie Larter (vlogs randomly) and Chloe prendergast (does a weekly vlog now and again). I wouldn’t say all are similar but I think they are smaller channels.

The Stephenson Gretch family are miles away from Steve vlogs aren’t they . They make sure their special needs children make it so school everyday as they know how important it is. They will do anything to make sure they are getting the help the need and fight to get the best for their boys.

Yes they are the opposite but I watch them so thought I’d recommend anyway.

Another recommendation that is probably a little like Steve’s vlogs in a kind of way it The Wright Times. Steve’s a creep and always needs a nap! He’s 50 odd as well, but you’d think he was 2 🤣
 
So no vlog for Wednesday then...I wonder why... Maybe because they spent the day shopping and Lacey didn't do any home school. I honestly don't know how Steve can say she does 5 lessons a day.

He said she does English, Maths, Spelling and Reading everyday. That is only two lessons because spelling and reading are apart of English.

I seriously wonder what is going to happen when she gets to 16. I understand that she has additional needs but they have had the whole of the summer to help her catch up. She is doing addition/subtraction and fractions that is something Chloe is going to be doing soon. They are not even using actual work books that support the national curriculum they are using cheap revision books.

I know Steve said they don’t need to follow national curriculum but still it’s bad she’s still using workbooks.
 
The sheets he printed off for her today was just time tables . Her full time education is times tables and learning the time. Reading a chapter of a book and drawing one random picture a day. Wow how can he think that’s suitable for her . Two weeks in and they haven’t stepped foot out the door to anything educational. No exercise at the park, no swimming nothing .
 
I seriously don't understand how they are managing to get around the LEA because Lacey's level of home schooling is appalling.

They have been 'Home schooling' since March and they are still doing the same work. What happened to the 5 lessons a week? She did times table and reading on Monday and times tables and spelling on Tuesday.

Why are they so fixated on times tables? They are the most basic form of Maths and you don't need to master them in order to move onto other things. I never knew mine off by heart, its something I got better at as I went through secondary school.

She is at home all day apart from walking to the car to pick up her sibling and shopping on a Wednesday. She has no interaction with other children even though we know that she likes things like soft play and she gets no exercise at all. They do no activities with her, no cooking, no projects, no other subjects like Geography Ect. They seem to think Art is just drawing a picture, which it isn't; its about learning different techniques and using different equipment like paint, clay ect. as well as learning about the Artists themselves.

I also don't understand why Steve moans about having to cook Sophie a different meal because she doesn't like something but doesn't seem to care if Lacey and Chloe don't like it. Why are they treating the children so differently? Its also not Sophie's responsibility to edit the vlogs, she has been at school all day and Steve still wants her to edit them. That's the real reason why the vlogs are so muddled up because Sophie has been busy at school and Steve cant be bothered to edit!
