WANKEIR  Haven't seen that one before.

a good question. I struggle to name any! I had high hopes for Rishi…on the basis that he seemed to have the financial experience needed to address the economy which I feel is the primary issue. Yet…he turned out to be a flounderer and out of his depth. It was a shame as well because to my awareness he was the first ethnic minority PM, yet he didn’t bring any new culture into the job or make any progress on c. I liked Boris…but for his entertainment value rather than his politics, although I was impressed with him when he was hospitalised with serious covid he did get himself back to work very quicklyThought Teresa May was a solid PM overall…but she lacks the personality to be popular with the public.

As a for Kier Starmer, he’s a bit one-dimensional and not sure he’s up to the job, he’s struggling in debates with Rishi in opposition and he’s not even a particularly strong opponent (his skill is more sneakiness I’d say).

Conservatives made a big mistake with Liz Truss, I think they should have given the PM job to Pritti Patel at that point, she’s got a bit of character and a significant proportion of the public would have gotten behind her (and many would have hated her in equal measure but that division would have helped her).

Find it odd that it’s so difficult to find someone with personality, debate skills and a solid policy framework. Just look at the US…bringing back Donald Trump who just wants the status of being president and is essentially a standup comedian and then Kamala Harris who wants to be “unburdened by what has been” who is just a campaign doll to get a woman of colour in the job. Joe Biden is even worse than both of them put together, the man struggles to string a sentence together and yet no-one can ask him to do any cognitive testing to prove he is capable of running one of the most powerful nations in the world.

I’m pleased Johnny Mercer lost, he’s local to me, and he did nothing for the city and essentially was just a tv personality.

He doesn’t get mentioned much nationally, but I do like Luke Pollard (Labour), he has a shopfront office in the city centre here and he is regularly there meeting with local people…he’s very accessible to his constituents. Not sure how well he actually performs…but he does appear to be doing the job for the right reasons…which is more than can be said for the likes of Johnny Mercer.
I stopped reading at "I had high hopes for Rishi".

Can’t wait for that sanctimonious cow Yvette Cooper to get her comeuppance. Home Secretary is a risky business and she’s useless so it surely can’t be long before she fucks up big time and has to go. When she got the gig she did a big, showy all hands meeting face to face in Whitehall and on Teams so every Home Office employee could join. She got welcomed on stage like she was the second coming of Christ, “woop woop” went all the wet knickered civil servants. Needless to say she hasn’t shown her face since.

Genuine question. Can someone name be an MP they do like? Im
So disillusioned at the moment with every one of them.

My local MP in Hammersmith/Chiswick is Andy Slaughter (labour) and has been a reliable and tireless back bench good guy since 2005, but then most of today's cabinet, who are all more clueless than a The Apprentice candidate have only been in politics since about 2015, the difference is night and day.

So again, are there any politicians that you support or like?
Fartage? 30P Lee?

Just so you know for the future and so you don’t waste your time asking, I’m not here to answer questions or get into to-and-fro with random people. I’m here to post my opinions on the government and to read others opinions.
If any of politician does anything impressive I’ll be happy to commend them for it.

My mp is Labour. Was a councillor in a different area for all of 7 months and attended 76% of their meetings so he will really know what he is doing!

I feel in a lot of way, getting into politics is a job for someone who isn’t particularly skilled at anything else.

£90k a year for being an MP, and if they get the top job of PM that’s another £80k, but by the time that is taxed…it’s not a good salary for being the leader of a country. Anyone with any decent qualification and skills could earn more at the top jobs in the local council, or work as a lawyer etc. I know they also get a load of financial perks ‘expense’, but even so, being an MP isn’t really a job that the most talented in the country are going to aspire to…especially as they will have to campaign and maybe mix with the great unwashed to get themselves elected.

There are a few who genuinely do it for the good of the people they represent (Like Luke Pollard), but in the main being in parliament is a status symbol or career move rather than a vocation. That’s why it’s so difficult to pick out the ones who are genuine.

All the tit for tat between the parties also doesn’t help. A strong opposition is always important, to ensure that policy change doesn’t happen unchecked and unchallenged and we don’t end up in a dictatorship…but a lot of it seems to be just mudslinging.

I don't understand why Streeting has opened up a consultation for suggestions to improve the NHS. We, the public, don't have the necessary information to make real effective proposals. It seems like a waste of time. And out-sourcing important decisions to the public hasn't always worked well in the past......

Mind, I do like a few of the suggestions that have already come through including: replace Streeting as Health Secretary with a dog; have a Wetherspoons in every hospital; converting cinemas into waiting rooms so that people can watch a film while waiting; make Mikel Arteta the head of the NHS (although why not go for Pep?) and my personal favourite is to lobotomise everyone from Birmingham. I'm not sure why Birmingham was chosen, but we could extend it as necessary. :D

Oh dear!

There are some on this thread who are more than happy to lay into Conservative, or other politicians they don't like - from day one.

Yet when their beloved Labour Government and politicians are rightly held to account, they really don't like it one bit. As evident by some of the replies seen so far.

According to their standards, Labour haven't been in power long enough, aren't subject to the same scrutiny over financial bungs, gifts and freebies, nor any 'dick' policies they come out with.

If we were this far into another Conservative Government, or one of a political party they didn't like, then we would have heard endless complaints, comments and insults over what they were getting up to, or policies some didn't like. Length of time in power would be irrelevant to them. They still would have been like a pack of Rottweilers from the moment the election result was announced.

There really does seem to be one rule for Labour and one for everyone else - as far as some on here are concerned.

Complete double standards, however not unexpected when some have their heads stuck so far up their arses with partisan politics.

The truth is all Governments and Politicians should be held accountable when they do wrong.

Labour isn't excused, nor exempt from this.

If some can't accept that, then too bad!

Some people went so hard on "get the tories out" for years that they want to hold labour to a different standard and cling on to the dream.

All this petty tit for tat between the two main parties makes them both look like idiots.

I have a good local MP, don't want to say the name for outting me. But she's the first full time MP we've ever had (when she got in) and does a lot to help local people and has a cause she's been very effective in campaigning for.

She's the right kind of person that is doing it - someone wanting to give back to the community after retiring from a sucessful job.

All the labour and tory people in the front benches are there for the wrong reasons and only care about themselves.

Agree.

If anyone thinks this forthcoming budget won't make the poorer even poorer, then they are seriously deluded.

Pensioners we already know are going to be hit.

However, fuel, alcohol and tobacco duty rises are all mooted. Along with the axing of the £2 bus fare - which could also see many routes being cut, or services being rationalised/curtailed.

Those from poorer backgrounds are more likely to use the bus, or have an older petrol car. Both for work and leisure purposes. Are more likely to smoke, and enjoy an alcoholic drink from time to time.

So of course they will be hit, even if not through direct taxation.

At this moment in time, we don't know how badly.

I've never heard of the 2pound bus fare, what's that? I'd be bloody shocked if they mess about with something like that. My mum is a bit concerned about the free bus pass for pensioners being scrapped. Especially as she's reaching an age where she might not be able to drive any more. Again, I'd be SHOCKED if they took that away. As you get older your world tends to shrink as it is, that would be crippling for her mental health ... but I suppose if they bring in assisted dying, that would help!?!?!?!?  Heaven knows what actual life-long Labour supporters must be thinking! (I'm a floater ... no rude comments please) 😬

ps. If that Jenrick bloke gets in or even worse Trump in the US, that'll put the woolly-hat on this turd of a bleeping year. I just wish I knew which country to run away to! Anyone wanna start up some sort of commune on a remote island? :ROFLMAO:
