Was interesting that he finally gave an update on the baby formula VERY soon after it was pointed out on here that it had all gone suspiciously quiet...

Hi Simon!

Yeah I did suspect that would flush him out 😂

I find it quite telling that there is £24k missing and the best he could offer us was, “oh yeah, come and give me a shout if you want 250 quid.”

So as of last update, he'd said £3250 had gone to non-registered charities.

Assuming they all received £250 - that means 13 microgrants were given.

If all take up the additional £250 each, that's another £3250.

Which would leave a remaining £20,759.72 unaccounted for.

"as we’re now in a position to offer you another £250 on top if you wish" (my emphasis)

you always were in a position to give them another £250!!! you've got upwards of £20k sitting there unaccounted for (and have had a large amount sitting dormant since the start of December! there hasn't been a massive spike in donations or anything. When I looked on the 15 December, there were 3505 donations. GoFundMe now lists 3522 (17 donations between 15/12 and 29/12). On the 6th December when I first did the numbers, there were 3451 donations, so there's been 54 donations between 6/12 and 29/12).

my speculation is that there's been a low uptake (only thirteen! I was quite shocked by that, considering it's nationwide) because of the UNICEF guidance that points towards baby formula not being paid for by donations.

Wow - only 13 microgrants? What is going on? Has he vastly overestimated the desperate need for formula then? Or you would think his hand would be bitten off.
So the problem is that he didn't do his research and got it wrong but kept accepting money, or something very strange is happening so that he is still sitting on nearly £21k.

If he was being entirely transparent - he would publish his accounts or whatever he calls his accounts. Where money has gone directly from GFM to a Charity then he should make that clear - but we already know that's not the way in which it works is it Simon? So, even just accounting for interest payments that he retains he would be doing very well - and of course, without oversight and scrutiny, the temptation to profit from public spiritness or a crisis must just be too hard to resist mustn't it Simon just to take a little bit more? Simon, if you've been "guided" intoyour general approach - then just remember, even if you are not that wise in the ways of the world - it doesn't mean the people advising you are either. If money is going through your accounts, it is you who will be on the receiving end of the consequences.
He's just going to keep it isn't he?

Yes, I think he will - and it wouldn't be the first time...

It may well be that he’s overestimated. Or charities/food banks might already have their own budgets for formula. Looking at news stories around this there don’t seem to be any concrete numbers on how much formula is given out. Quite a few journalists visiting food banks and saying they’ve seen X number of mums asking for formula, but obviously that’s not a good indicator. Also, I suspect if you’re on the bones of your arse you’d buy formula before anything else, then visit a food bank, so the baby’s needs may already be taken care of.

These are good explanations as to why food banks generally don’t give out formula: https://www.12ft.io/https://www.the...having-to-rely-on-food-banks-for-baby-formula

yep, 13. Must have missed this in the initial flurry of checking his figures. From 6 December. Interestingly Feed have given out 58 grants - maybe charities feel more comfortable approaching an actual charity for a microgrant, rather than a bloke with an opaque bank account.

Like a lot of things, this “formula shortage crisis”, is mostly hyperbole driven by a media desperate for clicks, shares and government bashing. Much like Harris himself of course.

Sure, some will always struggle to afford it, it probably is too expensive and support for desperate parents is always a good thing. But this narrative of “arrrgggghhhh parents are WATERING DOWN FORMULA and PUTTING THEIR BABIES LIVES AT RISK because of the blood-sucking tories 😱😱😱” that Harris has been peddling, was always overblown hysteria based on hearsay. That’s why he’s only getting 13 people taking up the offer.

Still, don’t let that stop you from rattling the tin and asking for more money, eh Simon.

I couldn’t tell you the last time I sent a text that wasn’t either via iMessage or WhatsApp. But I did just receive a phone call from 1996. It said it wants its joke back, Simon.

Talk about Mr. Internet Comedian having his finger on the pulse. How do we reckon he keeps track of all his witticisms? They seem to run on a fairly regular cycle. Do we think he carries a little notebook around with reminders?

- November 22nd, make a joke about the KFC logo looking like Rolf Harris. Remember, this was repeated on Essex Live (without a credit. Don’t forget to keep leaving messages for that journalist as he needs to update it, I don’t care if the article is 18 months old now).
- March 2nd, BMW drivers don’t indicate (it’s possible Martin will like this joke so tag him in it. Could lead to a 27 second slot on the podcast).

and so on, and so on…

A tree came down in the high winds the other week and knocked out the telegraph pole outside my mother's house, so they'd been without landline and Internet (and she has a woeful monthly data allowance). I actually had to go deep into the settings of my phone to turn off RCS messaging so I could contact her via SMS.

Simon, you boring old boff. Everyone is on WhatsApp these days, this stupid take on text messaging stopped being remotely funny or relevant over 10 years ago. Also- his engagement with his followers seems to be plummeting

Change networks then, fatty
Did he post that tweet 24 years ago?

Why the Echo feels the need to ask his opinion on anything? Anyone up for adding a comment?

I see Auntie Carol is ALL OVER the Michelle Mone story again today - and with good reason. Shall we hear anything from Simon - endorsing her position? Options are 1. either ignore it and tweet meaningless twoddle and hope no one notices. 2. Go on a "Martin Lewis" style Social Media break (just for a day or two) - you know, for the kids and to spend some quality time with the missus (hah!)
