That seems to be what happened. They wanted him to film a goodbye scene with Carrie and he wasn't well enough to do it. Seems things must have gone downhill for him pretty quickly. Very sad.

i am so confused about how old they are supposed to be... my grandparents had hip surgery in their late 70s (they had done manual jobs all their lives) my parents are now in their 70s (having done office jobs) and neither of them nor their friends are even close to this?

My mother had hip replacement in her 40s and My nan had hers in her 50s , but they had years of agony before it too.

Even with private care we are to believe Carrie just goes from walking around in heels to surgery without a mention of discomfort?

Re: Carrie’s hip pain I couldn't remember hearing it mentioned but then remembered in the scene where Miranda and Carrie shared a bed after Big died, Carrie asked Miranda (or maybe Miranda offered?) to massage her back as it hurt sometimes?

The hip surgery really doesn’t make sense. The first ep she complained of a bad back, and in the upcoming episode she’s randomly having hip surgery after no mention of pain is she suddenly going to start limping and struggling to walk in episode 5?
