Injust went to check the blog, didn’t know she has one, omg there is no way I’m going to read an assay about a marathon she did just because she likes marathon…

I mean I'd rather read an essay about the marathon than the post under it which was an essay moaning on about her kid's sleep and low-key shaming mothers who sleep-train but I agree she just rambles and word vomits on about things which aren't interesting. When running blogs were more of a thing I used to love reading about races with a specific strategy behind them, where I'd been following the training for a target time and cheering on the runner in question from behind the screen, but with her approach? Nah.

I'd forgotten she even had a blog for a while. Seems she just resurrects it for a bit when she has a lot of shitty sponsored posts to spam everyone with and needs to break them up. It surprises me that anyone even bothers trying to get their product on a blog now given that they have little to no reach. Those companies would be better off scrapping blog posts entirely and moving to IG like everyone else did like five plus years ago.

I know it’s primarily British runners discussed here, but does anyone follow Hungry Runner Girl? She’s been sick (sounds like Covid or the flu), took a few days off, and just came back with a 10 mile run and then eight the next day. She seems to be injured all the time but runs through it.

Yep. Another one who used to be quite interesting to follow but has now slipped down the disordered slide of running to eat rather than eating appropriately to fuel your training. She's totally obsessed now and has a panic attack even taking one day off. Obviously needs help but yet again she's fast so no-one will intervene. No idea how she's still going since she had so many fractures in the past and you'd think that issue would only get worse with age, particularly since she's lost weight in pursuit of a 2:40ish time.

I quite like to read races reviews, and running posts, but I mean if you run for fun, why such in depth analysis?

I haven’t read more of that blog, no thanks!

maybe I missed it, but cat the runner (or something like that)has a fracture, how thathappened? (I’m talking about the woman that is catcalled every time she run)

I remember her from way back when it was the era of blogging and Eat Live Run, Carrots n Cake, etc. She was clearly struggling with an ED back then which, if I remember correctly, got worse when she split with her first child’s father. Looks like little has changed, very sadly.

It’s definitely something I’ve become more conscious of in the last few years. One of the worst groups for it are parkrun tourists, I’ve done over 100 unique venues (huge help that I lived in London for several years in my 20s), i get the bug but I see people flying out literally to do a run and come back on the same day, and genuinely don’t see the issue
This really boils my piss. I wouldn't mind if they were chasing decent times. They are all on the piss before and after in the airports, eating crap, flying off all over Europe on weird crappy challenges that most normal people couldn't care less about. "Fuck the environment I need my third z to complete my third alphabe challenge"

They are also often some of the worst for never volunteering! I’ve done over 100 venues, 250 parkruns and volunteered 90 times. So I think my ratio is good
That's an excellent ratio. I'm nowhere near 100 venues, not even 50, but I'm on almost 100 volunteers.
It absolutely does my head in when people have loads of runs and never volunteer. They'd be the first to moan if it was cancelled due to lack of volunteers.

Several of my volunteering stints were as RD (I stepped down and was fucking sick of seeing the same people every week that got there 45 mins early for a warm up and hung about in the cafe for an hour after and NEVER so much as token sorted), if you ever got a shitty email about someone’s time being 3 seconds out from their strava time, getting lost (our parkrun is next to an a road, surely it’s not that hard to realise if you’re running along an a road you’ve fucked up) etc etc it was always from someone who didn’t volunteer - I’m petty so would check before responding as it would often influence the tone of my response

I’ve done 80 parkruns and 39 volunteering so almost 2:1 I don’t get to parkrun every week though because of family commitments and I rarely get to any but my “home” parkrun, maybe I’ll get to my 100 runs next year 😂

The audacity and entitlement of some people is off the charts
Complaints I have had from parkrunners
One of the marshals wasn’t cheery enough.
There were no toilets (it says this on our web page, we had this one EVERY WEEK)
The cafe was closed - yes it opens at 10, it also says this on our web page
The park doesn’t have a car park - guess what, on the web page.
Someone somehow managed to only run about 3.5k once, we’ve never worked out how. Then whinged
A group of fast men in alpha flys missed the finish and complained, given that there is a big fucking sign saying finish and the marshals and timekeepers were SCREAMING at them to turn right into the finish…
Someone left a coat on a random bench in the park and it wasn’t there after they’d run and sat in the cafe for 90mins and was genuinely incredulous that we wouldn’t contribute toward its replacement.
And back in the days when you needed a physical barcode…. Heaven help me.

That's shocking! The biggest problem we have is latecomers, even though it says it is a 10 minute walk from the carpark to the start people still rock up at 9:27 and even though the people at the finish line tell them to hurry up they still wander down the middle of the path while everyone is running past them in the opposite direction (they never move out of the way) and then get mad because we didn't hold up the start for them.

I have to say my worst offenders fell into the following categories
Men just under the 30 minute mark, they are quite good compared to their non running colleagues and friends but pretty average in the running population and their ego hurts. These are the worst for being rude to volunteers on the day and sending shitty emails
Women who turn up in groups wearing tikiboo and camelpaks and take about 45 minutes. The worst for being inconsiderate to other runners. Insisting on being 5 abreast on a narrow lapped course.

There’s a semi regular person at our local who takes nearly an hour and 3/4s to finish when they come. It’s not even a hilly or difficult course!

Last weekend I ran at a parkrun with laps. Overtook what I thought was a particularly slow looking tailwalker.
Just looked and saw they finished in 48 minutes.
Over 60-70 minutes I just don’t understand.
it’s not trying to pace-shame anyone, but it’s just inevitably spending time stationary?
