Roadside Mum #9 Is this normal behaviour for RSM?

I'm pleased she's gone but do miss her absolute nonsense, it was entertaining at least. Feels like we've had a real clearout of grifters, Jack, RSM, Depher, Simon Harris (although he's still chatting tit on FB), Carly Saltburd, Bex (although she'll be back), Sarah Vajazzle (who is already back). I need some more threads to follow

It's kicking off with Katie Price at the moment, but brace yourself before going into those threads! I tend to wait for them to close and then sort by most liked, gives me a decent-enough gist of what's going on.
I don’t love those threads, she’s just low-hanging fruit really. Also someone on the thread turned up to an event she was doing and had a go at her about a dog!? I stick to Kate Hayes, more because I’m fascinated at how she gets through the day, let alone has a career as a MUA and influencer

Mother Pukka's threads make for interesting reading. Another one who utterly misrepresents her real life experiences for profit.

How do you know this is RSM?
Monbiot was talking about the anti-traveller laws proposed by Priti Patel on Twitter. RSM replied and was asked if she wanted to contribute to the article.

Here she is, quoted under the name "Briony":

I haven't seen this before and it's pretty shocking on so many levels.

For the record, I don't have any connection to GRT cultures or people so am no expert.

However, if this is RSM, she's clearly claiming Traveller heritage: "Roadside is our cultural heritage." This goes further than stuff I'd seen of hers where she could plausibly have weaseled out of accusations of cultural appropriation, Here she is fully Dolezal, claiming not just a self-declared identity but an ancestral heritage. From what we know of her, she's most likely more of a hippy traveller, or van lifer, someone who has chosen a mobile life for whatever reasons, but coming from a middle class, settled background.

So this must be particularly egregious to actual GRT people. Especially as she also claims to have been a victim of hate crimes based on that heritage. Shame on her.

Also, shame on Monbiot. There are lots of legit organisations that represent GRT people and plenty of leaders within those communities who are perfectly articulate on their own issues. Instead of doing a proper journalist's job, he's just lazily put out a call for sources on Twitter and run with the first chancer who responded, without doing even basic checking. (I have spoken to RSM on the phone before and her plummy accent immediately suggests an affluent background -- Monbiot is similarly posh so you'd think he'd pick up on that simple cultural signifier when interiewing her at least!)

Going further, I think that whole article should have been commissioned from and written by someone who actually represents the GRT community. So shame on the Guardian too.

Agree with all you say. I'm going to archive the article and add to the wiki.

PS. I've just noticed the bitter irony of the headline.
