OK, I am utterly speechless. This is the type of regard she has towards education. Fair enough booking Lapland on an actual, school planned inset day (I assume that's what she means by an occasional day), but can you imagine going up to the headteacher of your kid's school and begging them for one! And their face when you tell them the reason.

She really doesn't give two shits about school. It means nothing to her except free childcare. Poor kids, they are never going to be encouraged to have career aspirations or hobbies (unless they fit with her aesfetic) are they. Neither child does any after school club at all, yes I get they are still fairly young but this is such a good time to start introducing extracurricular activities to them. But of course she won't because it means it will make it harder to force them into bed by 6.30 and she needs them up by 5am so she can bung them into a buggy and get her steps in. She is bleeping insane.

Edited to add: I've just realised that she is trying to convince an actual TEACHER to ask her headteacher boss for an inset day so they can do Lapland (I thought it was just a parent) 😂😂😂 seriously she is so far removed from reality it's actually worrying.

And she doesn't realise that the inset days are actually still work days for teachers (the commenter is a teacher), they do training on those days so they can give the kids an up to date and quality education!!! She is unbelievable.

Apparently according to google inset days and occasional days are different things though:

Many schools also have one occasional day per school year, where they're closed to both pupils and staff – effectively, an extra day off.

I had never heard of it. But of course her school has one.

The head teacher probably puts on two a week , you know because he's such a huge supporter of "fLeXiScHoOLinG"

But do they..........do they really.............🧐

Can any locals confirm a late November occasional day?!

Yes, around here (west Herts anyway) primary and secondary schools do tend to get an "occasional day" on the Friday at end of November - as opposed to an inset - so it's a day off for teachers too. It was historically unofficially known as teachers shopping day. 🤷🏻‍♀️. FML though, getting there at 8.30 to get the cheapest slot - we went there some time ago, it was magical, but got a mid afternoon slot so we were skating at dusk with the twinkly lights.

Occasional days are known as disaggregated days. So schools usually have 5 inset days per year. 3 in school training and the other two are days ‘off’ for teachers, but only for time back owed for training done after school etc throughout the year. Inset days are also confirmed with the LA over a year in advance, so you can’t just ask a headteacher to ‘put one in’ 😂

Occasional Day here in Grabby's area is a thing. As others have mentioned, it's often known as Teachers Shopping Day and is teamed with an inset day in most schools so it gives us a long weekend. The down side is if your kids are split across primary and secondary, these dates don't always coordinate and you end up with days of extra childcare to randomly patch up. In the past we have gone to Center Parcs with other families only to find it entirely rammed with all the other families of Herts and many also go to LaplandUK as they can get it "cheaper" not cheap!! It is planned (as someone mentioned) a year in advance (I already know next years) and it is not going to be dropped into a school calendar on a parents request. The delusion.

Hang on a minute though - the occasional day was Friday 29th Nov, didn't the bloody elves bring the LaplandUK tickets early December?? Yet another timeline manipulation, I don't think she can keep up with her own lies! Please correct me if I'm wrong..
Yes, the elf on the shelf brought the tickets on her 3rd December story, when they had clearly already been 🤷🏻‍♀️ those kids must be so confused!
