Real Life Crime & Murder #27

The rape trial in France is set to come to a close today with the sentencing. Gisele has been such a powerful force during this all, I hope she gets all the care, love and support she needs after this is over.

She has just arrived at court. What she has been through is utterly depraved but she truly has been a powerful force - you're right. I hope the monsters get the thrown to hell and the rest of her life is full of positivity and support. Her daughter has also been very brave.

Has anyone been watching (it's on Quest Red on Saturdays at 9) Quiet on set: the dark side of kids TV?

A warning there's a lot of talking about sexual assault / abuse and paedophilia.
Is this the one about Nickelodeon? There's a thread on here about it I think. I have been meaning to watch it but not sure I can face it. Is it really hard to watch?

He is being brought back to court for the rape of a woman in France in 1999 which he admitted to and they’re trying to find out if he’s linked to a murder of another woman and possibly 6 other unsolved crimes.

I also think it’s disgusting that he won’t tell his daughter the truth about what he did to her.

He's got 20 years! So doubt he will be getting out as he's 72. Gisele has shown incredible bravery throughout, I hope she can start to recover.
20 years is no way long enough but it’s better than him living the rest of his life without any justice for his wife. He won’t be getting out at all the only way he will is in a body bag.

I’ve been reading the DM comments this one in particular is disgusting.

I agree it's not a long enough sentence. It's also the fact that the other 47 men have the right to remain anonymous and some of them might be released for time served. At least he will spend the rest of his life alone whilst she is surrounded by family.

Mad that the Daily Mail are so behind the proposed incest ban when all their three-thumbed readers are inbred as duck.

I cannot get any comments to load on the DM. It's been this way for quite a while any ideas of a fix?

Those comments are disgusting.... these idiots are stealing oxygen 🙄
They changed the format of it a little while back so it's now like a pop up thing that shows the comments. If you've got pop ups or ad blocker then comments won't show. I had that problem so may be why yours isn't showing them either

There’s a few and they’re disgusting.
To think there’s people out there like this commenter. twit.

Never the rapists' fault.

Always somebody else.

I hope that these pieces of filth are shunned everywhere they go, and their wives and families never speak to them again - but they won't be. They'll probably form a support group. And sell the stories of their terrible ordeal to the papers. Hundreds of other men - and some women - will rally to their side.

I hope I'm wrong, but those comments make me feel I'm not.

Jason Hoganson, the man who was released early from prison and lasted 48 hours before committing further offences, has been found dead on the day his trial for assault was due to start. They are now talking about whether to still go ahead with the trial

Jonathan Stirland, prosecuting, said: 'The matter was listed for trial and, on the day of trial, the Crown got news that the victim had sadly passed away.
'However, the Crown indicated that they were still minded to continue with the prosecution. That meant that the Crown had to get a death certificate and, I understand, an interim death certificate has been given to the court and the defence.'
Mr Sirland said Ms Usher's statements would be used in evidence, however, Mark Styles, defending, said the trial shouldn't go ahead as Ms Usher couldn't be cross-examined in person and he had letters she'd written to Hoganson, which 'undermined her credibility as a witness'. District Judge Paul Currer decided that the trial should still go ahead in Ms Usher's absence. He added: 'It's in the interest of justice for the trial to go head - it's allegations of a serious breaches of a restraining order and an offence of battery.'
