I did hear it was something to do with him just being on remand when he escaped.
If he is found not guilty of the crime he was in on remand for then he is automatically not guilty of escaping.
Not sure how correct that is. Otherwise his not guilty plea makes absolutely no sense!
I read this article at the time...he doesn't need to be found guilty of the original offence he was being held for, but it must have been lawful to hold him. So maybe some sort of procedural argument that he was unlawfully detained?
