Anyone viewing CSA is damaging a child and is a risk to children. If the desire weren't there then these images would not be made. By displaying even "just one" photo a child is damaged.

Maybe we should be culling these men full stop; problem is I'm against that in principle as what if an innocent man is culled. I don't have any answers. I just don't believe these men should ever, ever be out of jail. Ever. Perhaps we should be asking WHY "lock em up and throw away the key" doesn't happen; why it is so unthinkable.

This is in France, great swoop but just highlights how child sex abusers can be literally anyone.

How on earth was a man already convicted of rape allowed to change his identity and then work in a school for disabled children?!

Probably exactly the same way as it works in the UK? There is a loophole in current legislation that makes it legal for criminals to change their names and avoid scrutiny. Right now in the UK you can change your name by deed poll and then breeze through DBS checks etc in order to allow you to access the children or vulnerable people you would like to victimize.

In my view, very few people outside entertainment or as a result of divorce/marriage change their names or worse, use multiple seperate aliases for anything but highly nefarious purposes - various types of fraud, and to bypass legal or basic reputational social blocks put in place against them for very good reasons.

Della Wright, a victim of CSA whose abuser changed his name, has been campaigning on this issue for years and it's finally got to the point the government is going to amend the Criminal Justice Bill to tighten up the law in this area.

Until then, your DBS-checked caregiver/teacher/scout leader/whoever the hell could easily be a convicted child molestor with many victims behind him or her, or a convicted sadistic old rapist and you won't know ... until you know.

Della's Law: Ending Loopholes for Sex Offenders | CIH (criminalinjurieshelpline.co.uk)

For too long, a glaring loophole haunted the UK’s legal framework. This oversight allowed sex offenders a disturbing advantage. They could change their names with ease, basically vanishing from the radar. The process was very simple. By changing their identities, they secured new official documents. These included passports and driving licenses. Their past crimes? Effectively erased, at least in the eyes of unsuspecting citizens.

This loophole had far-reaching consequences. These individuals, with their new identities, could re-join communities. Their criminal history remained unknown to those around them. The risk this posed to public safety was immense. It allowed offenders to evade the justice system. Worse, it gave them the chance to reoffend, hidden behind their new, clean identities.

Della’s Law: A Survivor’s Crusade

At the heart of this legal reform is a story of strength and strong will. Della Wright, a survivor of child sexual abuse, is the catalyst for change. Her abuser, cunningly evading justice, changed his name repeatedly. This allowed him to continue his predatory behaviour unnoticed. Della’s battle in court against this individual shed light on a glaring flaw in the system. Her ordeal was not just a personal struggle but a symbol of a larger issue troubling the justice system.

Della’s relentless advocacy is driven by her harrowing experiences. Her efforts to bring this issue to the front have been nothing short of heroic. She has tirelessly campaigned for a law that would close this loophole. Her goal? To ensure that no other survivor has to endure the added trauma of seeing their abuser slip through the cracks of the legal system. ‘Della’s Law’ is more than just a piece of legislation. It’s proof of the power of a survivor’s voice in enacting meaningful change.

The Government’s Intervention: A Commitment to Change

The UK Government’s firm action to amend the Criminal Justice Bill marks a significant turning point. Home Secretary James Cleverly’s proposal aims directly at a critical issue: the ease with which sex offenders have been changing their names. This amendment’s goal is resolute – to prevent offenders from erasing their past through simple name changes. It’s a clear commitment to bolster community safety and close a troubling loophole in the legal system.

This change will introduce stricter measures for name changes by sex offenders. The current process, mainly made easier through deed poll, offers a clear path for criminals to assume a new identity. The suggested change aims to tighten this process, adding layers of checking and accountability. It ensures that any attempt to change names is completely vetted, particularly for those with a history of sexual offenses.

A Step Towards a More Robust Justice System

This policy change by the government is not just a procedural update. It’s a powerful message of support to survivors and a pledge for public safety. The amendment is designed to close a gap that has long been exploited by sex offenders. It signals a move towards a justice system that is more effective in stopping reoffending and protecting potential victims.

The government’s action in proposing this change also shows an understanding of the need for the legal system to evolve. Recognising the dynamic nature of crime and societal protection, this step reflects a willingness to listen and respond to the concerns of those affected by these issues. It’s a positive sign of the government’s commitment to continuously improve legal processes to better serve and protect the public.

Della’s Reaction: A Mixed Embrace of Della’s Law

Upon hearing the news of the upcoming law change, Della Wright showed a blend of emotions. Relief and validation were prominent, yet there was an air of caution. Della knows that the passing of a law is just the beginning. The real challenge lies in its effective implementation. She emphasised the importance of making sure that the law functions as intended, to truly protect potential victims.

Della’s reaction is a reflection of her journey. She understands the complexities involved in legal reforms. Her advocacy, born from personal pain, is not just about changing the law. It’s about ensuring that the law brings about real, tangible change. She continues to voice concerns and suggestions, making sure that ‘Della’s Law’ is more than just a name. It needs to be a robust tool in the fight against sexual offenses, a shield for the vulnerable.

Broader Implications of ‘Della’s Law’

‘Della’s Law’ is more than just a legal amendment; it represents a crucial shift in the UK’s approach to dealing with sex offenders. By addressing the loophole that allowed offenders to change their identities, this law tightens the measures against sexual crimes. Its broader implications are significant. The law is expected to enhance public safety by making it more difficult for offenders to evade detection and accountability.

This change in legislation also sends a powerful message about the UK’s commitment to tackling sexual offenses. It highlights the importance of addressing not just the crimes themselves, but also the systemic gaps that facilitate these offenses. ‘Della’s Law’ reinforces the effectiveness of background checks and public safety protocols, ensuring a more secure environment for all.

The Potential Impact of Della’s Law on Society and Survivors

The introduction of ‘Della’s Law’ has profound implications for both society and survivors of sexual abuse. For survivors, this law provides validation and recognition of their struggles. It represents a tangible step towards justice and a commitment to preventing future abuses. For many, it offers a path to healing, bringing a sense of closure and justice.

Beyond legal ramifications, ‘Della’s Law’ has the potential to shape societal attitudes towards sexual crimes. It emphasises the importance of a culture that prioritises individual safety and dignity.. The law is a testament to the power of collective action and the importance of listening to and supporting survivors. It’s a step towards a more empathetic and aware society, where the protection of the vulnerable is a paramount concern.

It sounds like my deserted island is by far the best idea.

In all seriousness thank you for sharing this information. It's really interesting, if depressing.1 in 6 is craziness: WHY? why do so many men get turned on by children? They can't all be disturbed, can't all have been abused to themselves (not that all those abused go on to abuse).. what on earth is going on?
The internet and porn addiction has created a lot more peadophiles. A lot of porn addicts were not initially attracted to children until they became addicted to porn. All of it needs banning.

I work in mental health. We have seen an increase in people presenting suicidal after being caught up it stings or responding to decoys (adults pretending to be children). With one person, he had suppressed urges surrounding teenagers (not legal age) for a long time and was targeted online by an unregulated hunter group. These urges were fuelled by the hunters. They unleashed the beast, so to speak. We are surrounded by evil.

I am just musing about pweidos - surely there are men who are attracted to children but don't act on this, you never know what's going on in someone's mind.
Then there are men who view and share images of CSA, presumably some of these men presumably would act on this in real life. There is also the CSA of the children when the original images were made.
Then there are men who pose a risk to any child they come into contact with.

I guess there is a need to understand the risks each man poses to children - I'm sure I read 1 in 20 children have experienced CSA 🙁. Sadly, 'lock them up and throw away the key' is not going to happen.

Yeah I’m not saying every single one is a lock them up and throw away the key situation, but at the stage where they need 24/7 monitoring to not watch CBeebies or go down specific aisles in the supermarket it just seems… weird. If you’re putting all those restrictions in place that in itself is admitting they’re not safe to be in public. It’s not as if it’s just a tag or a curfew after all.

While they’re all disgusting, out of the 1 in 6 men who has apparently viewed those images I’d imagine it’s a very small minority of those who are that much risk to anyone they encounter that they need the constant monitoring.

I may be in the minority but I have mixed feelings about the sting groups. I know the reputable ones are very cautious about making sure the offender instigates any inappropriate messages and hitting home that the decoy is underage but who is regulating all these groups? They say they are doing the work the police don’t have time for and I feel reassured, but then I wonder if these dirty men would really be grooming kids apart from this or if they are emboldened by the decoys? Also I feel no sympathy for the ones who are caught out and feel suicidal. They know it is wrong so they SHOULD be ashamed.

To be fair, a number of the men caught in those stings have learning disabilities/ very low IQs, and have basically been entrapped by the person posing as a child. And the really dangerous ones are far too savvy to get caught by Sue and Brian from paedohunteruk. I always feel the motivations of members of those groups are a bit questionable, like they seem to find the whole thing a bit too enjoyable.

My own view is that kind of thing should be left to the police, and we should just focus on our children's safety, and who we allow around them. The biggest danger to children is sadly from family/ family friends.

Just to add, I do agree that exposure to porn plays a huge part in all this. There are a lot of men now who are habitual watchers, addicts even, spending hours a day watching. I've heard of men watching it in toilets at work, on public transport even. It's all starting younger too. 30 years ago, teenage boys might get hold of a top shelf mag, or a bluey video which would then get passed around for a bit, but that wasn't a frequent occurrence. Now teenagers are watching it on their phones daily, and not just regular porn, but a lot of really dark, torture porn and worse. It really worries me 😞

I've been saying for a while that I'm really worried about the men that this generation are going to grow in to, because of just that. They have easy on tap access now to any type of material they want, which just didn't happen pre internet. It really concerns me that we'll only see an increase in sexual crimes in the years to come, as this generation matures. I think it's already begun tbh. The way it must be affecting developing brains makes me feel sick 😑.

I also have zero sympathy for the so-called suicidal pweirdos who are caught out. If they have urges towards children, and they claim to have been “lured” by a decoy (who they believe is an actual child), then they have acted on those “suppressed” urges. They are scumbags.
I was describing an example - as a trained professional- I have to consider the needs of people within my care. It is a very difficult part of my job.
I may be in the minority but I have mixed feelings about the sting groups
I am the same - they are not regulated. With the increase of exposure on social media - it puts many people at risk. People turning up to do protests outside homes of the accused- for likes and views is not the way ahead.

My comment wasn’t aimed at you as a worker. It was aimed at the scumbags themselves and those who frequently make excuses for them, thinking that they are just good men who have been “lured in” which suggests that they aren’t responsible for their own behaviour. They know that they are doing wrong but they choose to do it anyway. There are sadly many comments defending these low lives on social media, particularly on FB. It makes you wonder what they’re up to themselves.

It’s often found that members of these hunters groups actually have a history of committing some sort of abuse- hiding in plain sight! It’s scary 😧

I don’t think it is a small minority at all. I believe peadophilla is progressive from my experience of working with them. Starts off watching soft porn, then hard porn, then rape porn, then teenage porn, then child porn. Then they go from just watching it, to collecting it, it becomes an obsession, they are speaking to peadophiles daily on the internet, isolating themselves from normal people. It all starts becoming very ‘normal’, they are speaking to other men that are abusing children, then watching content that the man has made with this child. They are offered this child. Or their sister has a child around the same age. They start getting desires around this child. That child is now at risk. When at the start of them initially watching porn, they were not attracted to children. Never mind the ones that have been attracted to children from the offset. Trust me now I do not trust any man around my children. I think having my mindset is the best way of stopping your child being abused. I never thought like this before working with them. It really opened my eyes. In fact I think it’s a small minority of them that aren’t at risk of abusing a child. Not the other way round. They are already abusing a child by viewing the indecent images.

One thing that society needs to be aware of is language creep. There is a small, but active, online movement to soften the image of paedophiles. They use the term Minor Attracted Person and are trying to claim it is simply a sexuality, as natural as homosexuality or heterosexuality. They are trying to make it appear that a MAP is making a great heroic sacrifice by actively choosing not to rape children. Check out YouTube to see examples of this. (Maybe not if you anger easily). It is the ultimate rebrand.

I don’t care how much you have resisted the urge. If you want to duck a baby you are a very very dangerous degenerate man. No ifs, buts or maybes. No nuance. No shades of grey. duck #bekind. I don’t want to understand you.

l can guarantee that in a few years people will start being cancelled and banned from social media for not using MAP as the correct terminology. Very much like the bullying people are subjected to for not referring to six foot tall bearded men in dresses as her. Be aware and never ever feel embarrassed to be repulsed by grown men who want to have sex with children.
