Woman, 71, who mistook property for B&B died after being 'dragged outside by ankles and stamped on'
David Redfern, 46, denies murdering Margaret Barnes in Barmouth whose 'catastrophic' injuries were similar to those expected in a 'high speed road traffic collision'www.dailypost.co.uk
This is heartbreaking and downright disgusting! She weighed 7.5 stones and he dragged her by her ankles and stamped on her! A complete over reaction and his anger issues are not a defence!
read this one yesterday on my local news and have thought about it ever since. i can’t imagine how frightened this poor woman must have been:
Barmouth visitor killed after mistaking man's home for hotel, court told
Margaret Barnes mistook a house for a hotel was attacked and was killed by the owner, a trial hears.www.bbc.co.uk
Same! I’m read about it today and it’s been on my mind ever since. Poor lady. Sounds like she had a lovely day, seeing friends at the pub, visiting the ice cream parlour, fish and chips then stopped at the shop for a night cap. Made a simple, honest error and it cost her her life. How frail and vulnerable she was in a place she thought was safe.
I can’t stop thinking of her putting her dentures on the night stand then being beaten and literally thrown out of the house; trying to pick her stuff up whist in cardiac arrest and that thing is laughing and swearing at her. There are no words

I was just about to post this. It’s horrific! He is a complete psychopath. Why not just try to help her rather than murder her?Woman, 71, who mistook property for B&B died after being 'dragged outside by ankles and stamped on'

Same, how is this guy not going down for murder tho? Like I can understand freaking out upon finding a stranger in your house, but surely once you’d realized it was just some drunk old lady who made a mistake, you’d stop attacking? It’s just horrific and he surely meant to kill her, not just get her out of the houseEvery murder I read about on this thread makes me sad but gosh this one has really got me, I can’t stop thinking about it. That poor woman. I hope that bastard bully rots
exactly! surely anyone else would have been shocked but then “oh she was obviously looking for one of the identical guest houses in my street” and then help her on her way? why would anyone react the way this “man” did?
Yes, I think after the initial shock and confusion, my head would jump to it being someone with dementia that had gone on a wander. Angry I certainly wouldn't be, just concerned. He must have previous, with a reaction like that, surely?Absolutely. You'd also think, oh maybe this elderly person is vulnerable perhaps or suffering from something, or maybe lost their bearings. But your first action certainly wouldn't be to treat them like an old dishrag and punch bag. He was also huge: 6ft1 and 21stone according to the BBC news report.
Incredibly, incredibly distressing and definitely crosses the threshold for a murder charge.
Eta: reading the other article linked above he went out of his way to humiliate her too. She wasn't even dressed properly when he dragged her down the stairs and into the street. Complete monster.
This is what I would do - call the police, lock myself in the bathroom if I was concerned about my safety. A 21 stone, middle aged man vs a 7 stone elderly lady is no match, he must have realised he had the upper hand.If he was aware of an intruder he could have called police, even if he felt he could go face to face with them you don't react like that upon seeing an old lady - again walk away if needs be if there's threats etc.
In the report I read he has been accused of attacking a partner in the past. Not sure if it’s his current one.He must have previous, with a reaction like that, surely?
I don’t get this case at all. It says she told her Mum she was on some sort of register since the age of 9 as she was at risk of sexual exploitation which of course could have been a lie but I’m wondering if it came out in court. She said she wanted to expose what was happening in Barrow - is this something she’s read about or experienced with friends? Using a hammer to hit your face and eye is so extreme, she’s lucky she didn’t do permanent damage. Such extreme lengths make me think she is mentally unwell, I don’t know I just find it such a strange case. The poor men who went through it.Eleanor Williams has been sentenced to 8 years.

I think murder has to be premeditated which makes no sense because kicking the life out of someone is murder. He’s dangerous if he reacts like that to a mistake like that.
I didn’t know this, I thought murder was premeditated! Good to know, thank youMurder doesn’t have to be premeditated. A premeditated murder starts with a higher sentencing tariff.
