Puppies #2

1
Newest thing with my puppy (feel I'm always complaining about him 😅). He is staying at my parents whilst I'm away for a few days, he went today. But he is obsessive over jumping or licking their dog. He has stayed there plenty of times with the last being a few days ago. He is usually fine there, he will hump the other dog occasionally but today he is obsessed and can't be distracted by anything. The only time he has been there whilst I'm away and I don't know what to do 🙄
When he gets like that, try removing him and put him in another place away from the other dog for abit, then let him back, then keep repeating.

They did try but it wasn't really helping. They ended up going to bed early and hoping in the morning he'll be better as usually after a sleep he is different. I also messaged my trainer about it so waiting to a reply

It's a tricky one, they need to stick to it, and he's probably missing you to.

I don't think he does that much 🤣 he goes there usually at least once every other week for a night. Been going a bit more this last month as I've had a few events. He runs straight up to the door barking to get in when I take him and doesn't bother when I leave. I'm hoping he was just very worked up today and after he settles overnight he'll be better in the morning 🤞

So I have a question for any Dachshund owners!
We have a 7 month old, and he chews/ eats every toy we give him - any toy suggestions we can leave him alone with? We know he's teething, so give him frozen carrots, kongs, mini frozen boness (toy ones!) but if its anything soft he just eats it!
Also barking - he is very protective of my partner and I, and when we are out all he wants to do it bark at anyone / any dog that walks past or even is across the street!
We are sadly having to get a muzzle for when we go up the forest now too, as we unfortunately had to spend a few hundred on the emergency vet at the weekend after he ate something yet again on his walk so the vet and so many others have advised this :(
How are you getting on?? My pup had 2 weeks of being an angel and now he has turned into a devil again 😭😭 I'm so worried I've done something wrong.

Also question for everyone didn't anyone else for enforced naps for their pip and when did they srop doing them?

Ha ha I think they go through phases like toddlers and small children. Doubt you've done anything wrong. It's all a learning curve for me I'm a complete puppy mum novice x

It appears my sweet little girl (Dachsund Cross, nearing 8 months) has started bleeding today. I'm not surprised as she hasn't been eating as well and become quite clingy over the past week and the vet estimated August, so have been on the look out. She seems to be keeping herself clean and being very licky. She is drinking well, which is good. If anyone knows what she might find tasty to encourage her to eat a bit more. Or any tips in general, I would be really grateful. How long can I expect the bleeding to last? Many thanks x

What about just mixing something like chicken into her normal food? Or warming up her normal food as well if it's wet. Adding hot water to dry food?
My pup is mini and is 10months now so I'm trying to swap him to adult food since I ran out of his puppy stuff nearly and the pup stuff says till 10months.
He is so fussy though and I did end up having him in raw food for probably the last two months but don't want him to be on raw really. Been trying to find a dry food he will eat but that includes grain , so many are grain free

Yes I think chicken topped kibble is the way to go at the monent. We use a kibble called Little Champ, it has wheat and maize listed in the ingredients. Interspersed with supermarket pouches. Definitely think they get bored with their food. I've ordered a home cooked dog food recipe book off Amazon to see if I get any inspiration.

I've gone for wainwrights as there are a few different flavours and I've topped it with some of their gravy topper which he ate tonight. Just got to make sure I don't get the super food one as that is grain free. I'll have a look at the one you said thanks

That sounds good for the different flavours. I'll check that out too.

Look up the website ‘all about dog food’ it’s a fantastic website and he’s an independent nutritionist, can see what the current food is rated and then onto the adult food too when changing them over ☺️

Thank you will definitely take a look x

Aww, hope she is coping okay and you're giving her lots of cuddles. Our girl was really off her food during her first season, but when I spoke to the vet they said not to worry too much as long as she was drinking. We tried all sorts, adding chicken or sausage to her dry food, gravy, scrambled egg, and to be honest, I'm not sure how much difference it made but at least she was eating something. I think on average its about 2 weeks, it felt like it was going on forever for us as she was just so sad and mopey but looking back it probably wasn't even a full two weeks and she bounced back quickly afterwards and was back into her food and playing again.

Aw bless her, our girl was only 6 months old when she had her first season.

Try using pate. I'd recommend the JR Pet pate. You can cut this into chunks or even grate it into her food. You can also use it as a reward too.

Our girl was off her food, she eats kibble, so we were quite happy to leave it out for her to go back and forward too. I did give her scrambled egg occasionally if she hadn't been near her bowl for a day or so.

We came out of her season and went into a phantom pregnancy, so just be mindful of that 😊

Thank you for your reply. I am indeed giving her lots of cuddles. I am finding it hard seeing her look so sad and mopey when she's normally such a happy little thing 😔

The pet pate looks a great idea. Thank you. Gosh a phantom pregnancy, I still see her as a baby herself 😊

Hi! Hope everyone is doing well with their pups! Mine is now 10 months old, and doing soooo much better! The first few months were a steep learning curve for sure!

In the first few months of having him, I really liked writing down all of the stuff I was doing with him; his pees/poos, vaccines, weight etc... but cobbled it all together in note pads. I've since started looking for a journal or planner that would do this and can't quite find anything suitable. I've seen apps etc that do this but i was thinking of a physical diary, to actually write in along the lines of the weight-loss journals you can buy on etsy. So... I've started looking into maybe creating and selling my own. My question for you is is this something you have found or used previously? If not do you think you would have found it useful? Is physical better than online? Am I barking up the wrong tree ( sorry 😆)

Omg!! I was crying out for something like this when I got my puppy as I’m so forgetful! I think a little section everyday to say what training you’ve done would be great as then if it hadn’t been filled in my partner could do it to stay consistent and in a routine? Deffo would rather a physical thing over an app as then everyone has access to it! Good luck! I think you have a great idea there x

Thanks! Now to get the idea on to actual paper 😬😄

Sorry not really puppy related anymore but I know there’s such good advice on here. we’re at a staycation with our friends and our dog (14 month old cockapoo) he’s shown aggression before in the form of resource guarding, so we know what to avoid, chews that last too long etc. he’s never shown signs of aggression without a trigger but twice now he’s snapped at our friends 3 year old. Once I think it was because she was at his crate when he was in it but the other time it was unprovoked. Obviously this will take work but I really don’t know what a short term solution would be? We still have a few days to go. Any help would be so so appreciated 🙏

When hes in his crate the child needs to leave him alone. I know its hard with a 3yo but its imperative that the child is kept away from the crate.

How did the other incident happen? What was happening before the incident. Is he usually around children? How does he normally behave.
