Puppies #2

My pup (8 months next week) has turned into a devil these last few days. Growling and attacking me for trying to stroke him. The trainer came yesterday and has advised me how to stop it. Said he is trying to get his own way and also will be in a regression phase. I'm hoping he will learn. He never breaks my skin when he does it, although I know he can as he has before but only when playing and he goes to grab the toy, misses (as I probably moved it) and he has got my finger.

I do really hope it is the regression phase and can teach him not to be like this as I don't want an aggressive dog. Done training classes and now the 1-1 training. Whereas my previous family dogs we never did anything and they were never like this

The training seems to have worked for the crate guarding but still working on it so he doesn't go back and become bad with that again.

Ordered butternut box as he really has been even less interested in his food recently. It's expensive so I'll probably keep him on it till he is on adult food as there is more choice then. That's if he likes it.

What sort of dog? Is the guarding a breed trait?

It shouldn't be. I actually just fed him a different kind of food than normal since he wasn't eating his normal food well recently especially the last few days. He was grumpy all day today, the worst he has ever been, he usually only does it when tired. After he ate this different food well he has been happy and waggy so I'm hoping if I can find a good he eats well maybe it'll help his behaviour

My dog isnt fussy but once when our food delivery was a tiny bit late (i.e he still got breakfast just not as much) he was sooo grumpy.

So maybe that will help.

I wish mine wasn't fussy. My cats are fussy as well. I don't want a dog that would eat anything but one that would nicely eat the food it's meant to 😅.
Bet he won't like butternut box.
Went to a restaurant once where they served doggy roast dinners, he only ate the meant and left everything else, most dogs would've ate that in record time

I have two so ultimately they eat or the other one eats it.

I feed bella and duke raw and both wolf it down. Dogs seem to like butternut box. So fingers crossed

Have you spoken to the vet? I’m in a training group on fb (I think it’s been posted on here before but not 100% and not sure if we’re allowed to promote fb groups or not) - basically they sometimes say unusual behaviours like suddenly attacking or going off food could be a sign of pain so to get the dog checked.

I know when my boy really goes off his food (he is generally indifferent to food anyway but will eat) it’s usually followed by him being ill in the days following.

He has been and don't think it is. He is very fussy with food anyway even with treats. When I first got him he would only eat his kibble even treats he'd refuse now he is the opposite 🙄. He eats my other dogs food better than his but that's not puppy food so don't want him having that. He is eating treats fine still well the ones he likes 😅. After he ate today he was fine again. He is always bright and playful and barely sits still.

Just wondering what breed he is, you've never answered before, maybe folks on here will be able to relate more?

Hey, wondering if anyone’s got an advice!! I have a 11 month old cavapoo who just constantly barks whenever me and my boyfriend are together sitting on the sofa to the point I have to go and sit upstairs to get some peace! I’ve tried everything, ignoring her, giving her treats when she’s not barking! And to top it off has stopped eating all her favourite treats! Has anyone got any suggestions before I start pulling my hair out? Thanks in advance 🥰

My dog started attention barking when I had guests over, it went on for about 6 months before I finally saw a behaviourist to solve it and after that I got her to stop in one week 😂 I couldn’t believe how quickly we nipped it in the bud.

The advice was to put her in her ‘place’ (either bed with the door shut or crate, whatever set up she’s comfortable in) in a separate room and close her in there until she settles, at which point she can come back in. If the barking starts again, she’s returned to her place. I think it helped that I have a dog camera in the kitchen so I could watch for the moment she laid down and then go and let her in. I know how upsetting it is, it got to the point where I felt like I couldn’t have anyone visit my house, but all things are tweakable x

Don't really want to sya what breeds he is as he is an unusual mix. I ended up giving him butternut box for a few days but he wasn't too fussed on it, he kept putting coming out the carrots and peas 🙄. So have been giving him butcher's with dry food mixed in (better for my bank account as well 😅). Although he doesn't want to eat it unless I warm it up for him first then he'll eat the whole bowl 🙄

Thank you so much! I’m going to invest in the doggy camera and try your suggestion! X

Pretty sure my pup (who I keep complaining about 😅) is just at that age of pushing boundaries. He is 8 months started scent marking as well and was humping all the dogs at daycare. He also has started to cry a bit in his crate at night which he never did, even from day 1 he slept through without a noise even if someone went downstairs for something. He doesn't do it for long now and I have a camera down there which if I say something to him through he then settles normally

Someone in my puppy class was asking about fussy dogs. The girl suggested putting the bowl down and remove it after half an hour, if they’ve not eaten it. And continue this. The dog will learn if I don’t eat it, the food goes away so I better eat when it’s there

Yeah i have started to do this but need to be more strict with it I think

We tried this with ours and he gave absolutely no fucks and just wouldn’t eat for days 🤣🤣 He’s better now but we do have to leave it out for an hour or so some days and he’ll eat when he feels like it 🙄

My pup seems like this as well. When I first got him I had to use his kibble for training as he wouldn't eat them from the bowl but when training would only eat the kibble and wouldn't eat treats.
He likes my parents dogs dry food though

Newest thing with my puppy (feel I'm always complaining about him 😅). He is staying at my parents whilst I'm away for a few days, he went today. But he is obsessive over jumping or licking their dog. He has stayed there plenty of times with the last being a few days ago. He is usually fine there, he will hump the other dog occasionally but today he is obsessed and can't be distracted by anything. The only time he has been there whilst I'm away and I don't know what to do 🙄
