On the maternity pay chat, if any of you are teachers, check out TeachersSPL on Twitter/X. It made all the difference to me during my first maternity leave as the OMP we receive as teachers is so rubbish now. How it works is you ‘return to work’ over the school holidays and get full pay without actually having to go to work - just makes sure you’re entitled to the pay you’ve earned with how our pay is split over the year.

Hi ladies,

I am 15w3d today. We had our dating scan at 13w6d and baby was perfect. Everything as normal.

Since then my energy has come back a lot and my nausea is much less frequent. I am occasionally getting crampy/stretchy feelings in my lower stomach and sides. Nothing painful just uncomfortable. I don't massively have a bump yet, it slightly appears sometimes and then other times it isn't visible.

I have myself completely wound up that something is wrong. I know I am probably being irrational but any reassurance would be gratefully received.

I know it's too early to feel movements so I don't even have that for reassurance. So annoying as I thought after the first trimester I would relax and enjoy this pregnancy!

I'm the same as you, 15w5d and sometimes I don't feel pregnant at all now, which is scary!

Try not to worry firstly but I completely understand - I felt exactly the same at around the same stage.
The cramps are likely exactly what you’ve said and it’s everything stretching for baby, if accompanied by bleeding or the pain is severe then don’t hesitate to seek medical advice!
You spend the whole first trimester wanting the nausea to go away but then you have this limbo period between your dating scan and your anatomy scan at 20 weeks where you have no signs of “reassurance” that things are okay.

Do you have a 16 week appointment with a midwife booked? I was lucky and they used a Doppler to listen to baby but not all places will do it as it can be really difficult to hear the heartbeat at that stage and they don’t want to worry you if baby is in the wrong position to listen!

It shouldn’t be too long before you’ll start feeling faint baby movements so hopefully that helps.
Also the thing I found super reassuring was knowing that at any time I could book a private scan to go and reassure myself, I didn’t end up doing that but it was nice to know I had the option. Also I found it reassuring to find out about what was happening to my body/baby week by week (for instance I knew the cramping I was feeling was normal) but I know not everyone would find that reassuring!

Totally was in the same boat here too. From about 15 weeks til our next scan I felt totally normal and so energised. We did a private scan at about 17 weeks and found out the gender then. The only thing I can recommend is doing a private scan if you can afford it, it really helped me!

this was me to a tee at this time! I’m still anxious st 28 weeks 😂 I feel baby kick and then nothing for half an hour and I’m halfway on the phone to triage haha.

I’ve had the pains all through, it’s apparently normal as your body stretches to fit baby. I would recommend not to Google too much! I gave myself such fear googling as for every positive link there’s always one that tells you it’s a sign for concern and you’re about to miscarry

I got a proper bump at around 20 weeks, I went on holiday and when I came back my coat would no longer do up.

Please come back to read your post at 30 odd weeks when you can no longer bend down and you're being kicked to shit and have a good laugh at yourself 🤣🤣

If you are really concerned about anything, speak to your midwife ❤️ I think you're just enjoying the magical 2nd trimester

Did anyone else feel a huge change when they hit 34 weeks?

I’m just over 34weeks and the pressure in my pelvis has intensified, I’m 100% sure baby’s head is now engaged, the pressure in my back, thighs…and the braxton hicks are now happening in the day rather than just in bed.
It’s quite annoying as I only have 5 shifts left at work, but right now I can barely see me getting through the next night shift 🤯

I felt absolutely fine until I got this point 😂

Yep.. I’m 35 weeks now and had all manner of really debilitating issues this week 😫

Just coming to complain that I haven’t gone into labour yet 😅 currently 4 days overdue. The most pregnant I’ve ever been and so over it!

This scares me. I'm 29 weeks and suddenly feeling like I need to do everything now because we still haven't bought a pram or cot or car seat etc. I want to meal prep, and sort all the baby's clothes so I need to get moving soon.

I think it’s more the shock of going from forgetting I’m pregnant/feeling absolutely fine, to being like oh these are the third trimester symptoms everyone talks about 😅
Im sure you have plenty of time don’t worry, I haven’t dug our pram out of the garage yet or bought a car seat…🫣

Got a letter from my health visiting team that basically said ‘hey we hear you’re pregnant, congrats! Here’s a qr code if you want any information’

please tell me that means they won’t be coming round my house before babies born because I do not have time for that 😂

I got one saying they’ll visit after 4-5 weeks, so I’m definitely not having anyone over before birth!

with my first they did book an appointment to visit before birth, but baby came 3 weeks early, she knocked on the door and was like ‘oh I see you had the baby already I’ll leave you to it..’ then we never saw that one again 😂

Maybe its just some areas that do a quick home visit before birth, but I’ve heard it’s usually just questions like where will baby sleep, plans for feeding etc, I don’t think they nose around your house unless things have changed 😳

I feel like we saw ours way too much between 0-6months, and they were way too strict and marked little one down for stupid things like not being able to rattle a toy at 2-3 months 🙄 and then they will leave you alone and don’t bother with you again until 12months to come back and mark you down again because baby isn’t colouring in or hasnt got multiple words yet. It’s so silly how awful they make you feel for your baby being ‘behind’ on milestones when they’re not! I’m glad I know for next baby to not pay any attention to their super strict and limiting guides for these milestones 😅

luckily I work in a nursery and have a degree in early childhood education so I feel like if they start on the milestone shaming I can tell them where to go 😂 my favourite thing to tell parents in my workplace when they start stressing about milestones is that ‘development is a spiders web, not a straight line, every child develops differently’

I’ve seen so many parents worried and shamed by health visitors and I know they’re just doing their jobs but it really does effect some parents and gets them so worked up. I had one parent in floods of tears because their health visitor told them their one year old would never achieve in life because they hadn’t taken the dummy away before 12 months. I understand watching for developmental issues but half the time they just focus on the silly stuff and not the sen needs because they don’t want to diagnose. We look after a little boy who is clearly on the spectrum and after spending ten minutes with him the health visitor was like nah he’s fine bye. They just don’t have enough time for every child and it’s upsetting
