Nearly 6 months and i have nothing bought....its all kicking in now

This is my first, could you please let me know what i need for a new born?

As in pram, moses basket etc, i ask my friends but i just get a million messages back of things they have and they can give me which of course is so helpful but what i really just need is a bullet point list so i myself can start checking things off! could you girls let me know what things are on your lists?

Thank you!!
Something to eat, somewhere to sleep, something to wear.

So, if you want to bottle feed you’ll need bottles, formula and a steriliser, a few soft bibs perhaps. If breast feeding, nipple cream, maybe breast pads though I personally never leaked so just one box for now. Muslins are handy to wipe faces, catch spit, burping etc.

For sleeping you’ll need a bed and somewhere for daytime naps as they shouldn’t be unsupervised. Under sheets, maybe a breathable waterproof mattress cover, if you’re using 2nd had cots and baskets you’ll want to buy new mattresses. Check lullaby trusts safe sleep guideline but I believe sleeping bags are considered safer than blankets. Nothing else at all should be in the sleep area but some people like to use a white noise machine at sleep times. You might want a monitor and dummies too. If you fancy a baby nest, look at overnight rated ones as many can’t be used unsupervised as they are not breathable.

To wear, outfits aren’t really practical in the first month so baby grows/vests and vests to go underneath, long or short sleeve depending on the weather. Zip baby grows are a God send, the ones that go over the head and button at the crotch only are sent from hell imo. I like ones with inbuilt scratch mitts and feet but you’ll probably want some socks too. A hat for leaving hospital too but not to be worn indoors. You don’t need shoes.

Beyond that…

They only need water to bathe at first but you might want a baby bath and definitely get a water thermometer. Hooded towels are handy too.

Nappies, wipes or cotton wool, a changing mat. Horrific for the environment but small disposable inco pads are good changing mats in the early days of milk nappies and wees on the mat. I personally also got waterproof mat liners that are like a towel with waterproof backing to use on the bed in the night. Setting them up in a caddy/portable basket is a good way to organise if you don’t have a change table.

You may need a car seat to leave the hospital even if you don’t have a car so check that and obviously some kind of pram.

You can buy nappy cream, baby wash, gripe water, bouncer/swing chair etc if and when you need it. And some black and white sensory card/books when they get a bit bigger too.

For Mum I recommend a massive drinks bottle, healthy snacks, maternity pads/disposable inco pants, a note book and pen to keep track of feeding at first.

That’s my personal thoughts for the first months.

one thing everyone kept telling us was don’t buy newborn clothes, just go straight to 0-3s.
it wasn’t until a few weeks or so before baby was born that one of hubby’s coworkers that had just had a baby told him get newborn size things

we didn’t go mad on them but the 0-3s absolutely drowned baby for at least the first 3-4 weeks, so I’m glad we got some newborn clothes in the end

Does anyone else here live in a hot country and has gave birth in high temperatures?
I'm due in the summer and temperatures normally reach mid-high 30s at that time of the year 😬 I'm more concerned about clothing for the child, during the night what should they sleep wearing? Is it fine to have the AC running all day and night to cool the house as it gets very very hot in summer? What should they wear coming home from the hospital?

Any tips or tricks on giving birth during hot weather would be much appreciated!

Here’s my list. Aside from the cot which has been given to us second hand (new mattress is needed for this but won’t need it immediately as he’ll be in a crib for first few months) and maybe some of the nursery bits I’ve only included stuff that he will immediately use when newborn.

I’m hoping to breastfeed so haven’t included bottles sterilisers etc but will buy if and when needed.

if anyone thinks I’m missing anything please say!

Yes! I forgot them. Baby nail scissors and baby thermometer - must haves.
I’d suggest a bath water thermometer. This one was cheap and worked perfectly. https://amzn.eu/d/5M1eEOO

I didn’t think about cleaning/self care.
Some packets of anti-bac wipes to keep by the change mat are a good shout. Sanitiser too. Low or unscented laundry products and if you usually use highly scented bath products/personal care I’d get some low/unscented of those too.

I didn’t have a baby change bag as breast feeding and kept a bag in the car but had one of these which was brilliant. Enough for nappies, wipes and spare clothes when they’re tiny https://amzn.eu/d/g6NB7vg
I will this time if I’m out and about more as it’s handy to have a change of clothes and drink for yourself too.

My friend recommended puppy pads for around the changing matt too in case of explosions lol! My Mum also recommended antibac wipes for hospital bag as although it was the early 90s so hopefully things have changed she caught MRSA there after giving birth to me.

Need to add those in!

are brill, you can get thinner tor thicker ones but I think these are nice for nappy free time on a play mat too, being soft. Obviously not breathable though - I've seen people suggest putting them in the cot but I definitely wouldn't be doing that.

To be clear, I meant for changing on the bed at night as the others can be scrunchy and noisy, not for sleeping on.
And baby grows/rompers and vests, depending on the weather.

... so baby grows/vests and vests

Yes I always have a puppy pad on the changing mat because baby fudge wees everywhere when changing him sometimes and it absorbs it all up rather than going on his clothes 🙈

Being sick the last few days, fever cold flu symptoms. All the fun stuff and all I'm thinking is how the hell am I going to mind a child the next time im poorly 🤪

Here’s our list. We’ve got pretty much the essentials now. Just extra stuff but it’s my baby lunch thing this weekend so holding off buying stuff recently as we’re already starting to get gifts / vouchers:

Some of the stuff that isn’t ticked off we do have but I want to get a few more of it etc so that we have what we need so don’t want to tick off until I feel I have enough.

Recommend cheap face wipes for use on your bum, obviously don't flush them! Much softer and gentler than wipes made for the purpose. In place of scratch mitts you can always use socks.

I need to pack what I need for feeding in the hospital. Can anyone recommend what I will need to take ? I want to try and do express bottle feeding but also know I need some formula etc. What ones did people pick? And how many bottle did you take with you?

Take a few bottles but you’ll likely be able to borrow a Milton steriliser when you’re there to clean them - maybe four or five. Cow & gate do bottles with teets on Amazon and elsewhere. We took one box of these but ended up staying three days so bought ready to use formula to use with bottles as we couldn’t use powder at our hospital.

regarding newborn sizing, definitely get some smaller outfits. They will be a little drowned for a few days at least in 0-3. Baby Wood is at his birth weight of 9lbs and is still a bit drowned in 0-3 sizing.

When did all your bumps start to show in your first pregnancy?? I know I'm probably being silly worrying because everyone is different, but I turn 20 weeks this weekend and my body is literally not showing any signs at all. Whenever I look it up I see people saying their bump is very slight, or that you show less if you're tall, but I have no bump whatsoever and I'm barely 5'2! I still wear all my normal trousers etc. So weird and just not what I expected. It makes me terrified that he's not growing properly. However I do feel him move quite a lot which is a comfort. Has anyone else experienced this?

I didn’t look pregnant until 28 weeks, then had him at 35. My neighbours were shocked when we came home with a baby 😆 wouldn’t worry about it.

I’m 5ft 1 and with my first I didn’t start to show until about 22 weeks. Everyone is different, but as long as you can feel him moving that’s the main thing. Some people manage to go their whole pregnancies without even knowing their pregnant (so I assume no bump)
