Paul from Perth

Caroline is brilliant but I feel that she could have posted a short message in the community tab saying Paul is alive, there have been some complications but he's doing better now, I'll post a video update with more details as soon as I can. 🤷🏼

Anyway, I feel for the guy. Would I ever choose to get that brutal surgery? Hell no!

So glad Caroline was able to come on and give such a detailed update. My heart goes out to Paul so much, I can't even imagine what he must be going through. Hopefully the infection clears soon. He's a strong man and I'm really hoping for a positive outcome for him.

OMG this is giving me flashbacks to my ordeal in the hospital after my 8 hr colon cancer surgery.
Poor dude. Thank God for Caroline.
I hated to hear he has a resistant bacteria...for people who have never dealt with it or just hear about it in passing they could think it's no big deal. I lost half my family to one of the strains, so it brought flashbacks for me as well as soon as she said it. And once it takes hold, there's not much they can do. I'm convinced after that ordeal that what ends humanity won't be some big catastrophic event, but the smallest of things. I hope hope hope they can get it quick.
And I agree with others, everyone needs a Caroline, she really is the best ex-girlfriend ever lol

I don't think he's a strong man. He suffers from depression, he has mood swings in every video, he's terrified to die and he only chose to get this surgery out of desperation. Now Caroline says that he has been begging the nurses for euthanasia... his mental health is fragile. The fact that he has a rational and practical side to him doesn't make him a mentally strong man IMO. = I'm worried.

I'm worried too. I think he has serious psychological issues even before this surgery. I'm concerned the surgery ordeal has done lasting psychological damage.

Sometimes even though an option for a reprieve is offered it might not be the best option in the long run.

I can understand what you're saying, but I don't think depression and mood swings makes one a weak person. No doubt he's in a bad state right now, but overall he's had a positive attitude and has really fought hard to get where he is. I see that as strong. Clearly the surgery was a lot to take on though, and he's certainly in a fragile state now. I too am worried about him.

I agree, he had mental health issues even before the surgery.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I would never ever undergo that surgery, not even if they promised me with 100% certainty that I will live another year or two, which is not even the case, nothing is promised. I wouldn't fancy spending months in agony, I actually don't believe that the recovery time is 3 months like they say, that sounds like a best case scenario time frame but so many things can go wrong that I'm sure it's typically longer than that. What's the point? And what quality of life do patients have after the surgery? I've read that it's considered a controversial surgery and I can see why.

Now if Paul survives this I'm afraid he's gonna be very depressed during the long and painful recovery time. I mean, this is a guy who was panicking in tears in the video right before the surgery, when he had some shortness of breath probably due to anxiety + the ascitis that needed draining.

I agree with you. He was fragile from the get go.

I think the same thing about Jenny. Would the outcome have been that much different if she didn't do that stupid last clinical trial or the $20k proton therapy. She made it less than 3 mos after that treatment. I guess she didn't die from the brain issues but her lung issues were so tragic it was just a lost cause.

I can certainly understand why someone would choose not to have the surgery, it's obviously brutal. He has a tough road ahead both mentally and physically. I hope he'll be ok. Does anyone know the average long term survival rate from this surgery? I think it's actually fairly decent? The panicking before the surgery was very understandable to me, he was about to embark on a massive surgery, who wouldn't panic.

"Regarding mucinous tumors and pseudomyxoma peritonei (PMP) the five-year survival for patients with grade 3 disease was only 6 percent with systemic chemotherapy. Now, studies report a 50-80 percent five-year survival in grade 3 patients after receiving complete CRS-HIPEC therapy. It should be emphasized also that regardless of the survival benefit, a net improvement of the quality of life is obtained from the surgical management of these patients with dramatic improvement of abdominal distention, pain and bowel obstruction."

That's pretty amazing statistics.

Thank you for this and it certainly is amazing. I had just read elsewhere that 69% are still alive at the 5 year mark.

Exactly, the brain radiations were totally pointless but you know what... I might be wrong but I suspect that they shat their pants after watching Sarah pog's mental decline and death from the brain mets. Just my speculation. 🤷🏼

He is relatively young so I understand why he had to get the surgery. I hope he at least makes it 5 years. He seems like a nice guy.

You could be totally correct. It's all just sad. Jenny, Amanda, Sarah.... so young.

I didn't know Paul had his own thread! I saw he was being discussed in another thread but only now started watching his videos.

I believe hospital will now administer heated chemo drugs for five successive days as second part of the procedure. Tough going for Paul.

"Hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) surgery is a two-step procedure that treats certain cancers in the abdomen. Cancerous tumors are surgically removed, and then heated chemotherapy drugs are applied directly inside the abdomen to eliminate the remaining cancerous cells."
Both stages are done at the same time in one surgery. First removing of the organs, and then the heated chemotherapy. I don't think they let the patient wake up from the surgery and then they put them under again.

Oh I didn't know it would be done over 5 days.

I think anyone choosing this surgery would do it out of desperation. Desperation to live. Not surprised he is begging for euthanasia. This surgery is something else.

Absolutely, so brutal, and a desperate situation, no two ways about it. Put in the same situation I believe that I too would choose the surgery, but damn I would be beyond terrified. I'm not religious/don't believe in an afterlife, so this is all we've got to my thinking. So I think I'd give it all I've got.

I'd need a lot of convincing to summon the courage to go for it. I'd be scared shitless and probably lose my mind repeatedly.
I will never forget poor Monique. She did not live too long after it. It seems that once the cancer is in the peritoneum, chances are low. That being said, I read a story about a guy who had it done and is doing well I think. I think it was also cancer in the appendix.

Oh yes, poor Monique. Damn so heartbreaking. She was a sweetheart. I keep telling myself I need to stop following the cancer influencers as it seriously gets to me. I started following one, and then got recommended others, and then I got caught up in their stories too. I think really that I'm too soft for it though. The photo montage at the end of Kyle's last video did me in. It certainly puts my own life in perspective, and how fortunate I am to be in good health, but the degree of suffering some have to endure, that's very hard to witness.
