Odd Neighbours / Neighbour Problems #3

Agreed, you can barely move in any residential street now for these vans. I hate it when they park at the edge of a junction so you can't see to emerge. Then they park on the pavement so mobility scooters/wheelchairs/prams can't get through. Selfish.

They make it dangerous for pedestrians too, a lot of the time you've got to be on the road to even see if it's safe to cross because they block the view so much.

And the van owners who park their monstrosities outside other people's houses, blocking their light and view. Selfish bastards. They should be banned on residential streets.

This weeks mission... every van in a residential street i see which belongs to a big company. Im making a complaint

My neighbour seems to have some sort of shopping habit, but what gives me the agg is the fact that she constantly gets stuff delivered when she’s not there, including when she’s on holiday, then texts me to go and get it off her porch. There were five parcels for her the last time she went away for a week. Who does that?? You’re on holiday, you daft cow, stop ordering stuff!

At one point, she was actually telling the delivery companies to bring stuff to ours but I put a stop to that pretty quickly by telling her we were going to be wfh less and couldn’t guarantee when we’d be in.

Yeah, I took in a few parcels when I first moved here and then people took the piss with not picking it up etc. So now I'm a miserable cow who won't even answer the door if I'm not expecting anyone. Also handy for avoiding canvassers and religious types.

So I need a rant today!! I'm sorry this comes across as unreasonable or whatever but my neighbour has had her daughter's 2 sprogs over for the bank holiday and ohmygod has it been bad!😩. Its the banging and running back and forth and and the dropping and the slamming of the cupboards whack whack! the crying. JUST everything it's not just that but these neighbours don't have consideration as it is!I get it they're only kids and i have 2 myself but I have respect and I'd never let my kids make that amount banging and noise as that! There above me and its worse we literally hear everything. We've told her previously in the past about it and she doesn't give a frick! Can't wait till the daughter gets gone! I couldn't imagine this as everyday thing😮‍💨😮‍💨

Unpopular opinion... But my husband has a work van. We do have a very large drive which we always use, but he has colleagues who don't have such a luxury so have to park on the street. What do you expect these people to do? They're working in a trade/construction, they need a van, where should they park?!

If they have a van why do they need 2 other cars? If they have a van, why does the van AND all their cars have to be directly outside of their homes, maybe the residents would like their ONE car outside their home? Or like me, the ability to actually GET on my drive without 3 poorly parked vehicles nigh on in the middle of the road to try and turn around.
To be fair my OP was aimed at companies allowing employees to take vans home. If a van is your vehicle then obviously you wouldnt have somewhere else to park it but for companies its just totally illogical, especially like I say when they have a car sat on the drive pretty much 99% of the time

I think you can claim an allowance, possibly tax deductible, if you have to take your van home.

The parking in my street does my tits in. I have a driveway, so does everyone on my side of the street. But the hole who lives at the very end of the opposite side has 3 bloody vehicles. His car and two work vans. He always parks them facing my house and it makes it difficult for me to get in and out of my driveway cos they're so big. He also blocks the alley where everyone's bins go out making it harder for the bin men! He thinks he owns the whole street.

See pricks everywhere!

I live in a terraced house and we don’t have driveways or front gardens, the neighbour Iv previously whinged about on here he parks like a prick, we have permit parking only on one side of the road, he purposely parks in a space for 2 cars and parks in the middle, the other day I asked him to move as I have to get shopping and my child out, instead of parking on another street, in the 9.5 years Iv lived here it’s never been an issue, I did buy when I was 19 and had limited options when I bought but I should be moving in the next year or so with my partner, woo hoo 🙌🏻 I want a driveway and no bleeping neighbours!!

It’s not unreasonable it’s downright rude and shows what a chaotic house they are being bought up in. I bet if you were making noise they’d complain.

Our parents bought us up to be respectful and think of others. we weren’t allowed to scream as children when we were playing because screaming is “something people who need help do”. Something parents can’t be arsed to teach their kids today.

Yes exactly! 💯 my 7 year old daughter asked about the banging and I explained as to why. And she said why doesn't the adults there tell to them stop! My 7 year has got more sense😌😒

My neighbour has royally fucked me off this week. Decided to completely chop down a beautiful jasmine that was growing on our mutual fence and allowed some privacy. He didn’t give us any heads up and then left the debris just dumped in our garden?! I sent him a text saying you’re going to need to dispose of that because we don’t have a garden waste bin.. hole. Then yday we were sat outside in the garden and he popped up and started droning on about the coronation for about 30 minutes. Literally duck off!! No idea what plant I’m going to have to put there now but it winds me up that we can now have total view of each others gardens!!

Something similar happened to a friend of mine. She put 4 tall posts a couple of feet from her fence, 8 foot which is ok for posts but not fences which should be les than 6 foot. Then bored a hole near the top and slotted strong rope through it. The planted Russian vine which grows like mad and encouraged it to wind along the rope. She had a nice thick foliage curtain in a few weeks

Preferably outside their own house. Obviously that's not always possible, but just from personal experience, the van drivers rarely park outside their own house if given the choice, and normally park it outside someone else's. They seem perfectly happy to block other's light and access.

I doubt most people even need the bigger vans the majority of the time. They're an eyesore and a nuisance to everyone else.

At my parents house, my dad owns a Peugeot boxer and it’s bloody massive, my mum hates it 🤣 even on the drive the van height was so tall it was an eyesore, my mum moaned and round the corner from them is a secure farm and he now pays the farmer £150 a year to park the van 🤣 my dad kitted it out like a camper as he’s away to work Monday to Fri 200 miles from home and it saves hotel costs, the farmer has two farm dogs that keep an eye, one is lovely and the other is always on standby to rip your hand off 🤣
