Carrying on from the last thread discussing the ups and downs of parenting a baby!

For us…

Highs
Belly laughing at the most random things
Has done a roll, once! But I’ll still take it
Loves his pram now we have him in the stroller.

Lows
Four month regression ongoing and still giving me sleep deprivation like I’ve never known.

Highs
Pretty much everything he’s so lovely. He’s the smiliest little bean except when he’s hungry or tired which is fair because same.
We had his first chuckles last week and he started rolling belly to back.
I did a baby massage course and he absolutely loves it so when we’ve had a rough night of him screaming or not settling back to sleep so making me shattered I always try to make time for a massage session to help us have that bonding time and it makes me feel loads better and he’s so smiley throughout it.

Lows
Stinking sleep. Whyyyy has he decided 5:30 is a great wake up time when he was such a consistent 6:30 waker (still too early but I hate mornings anyway and at least I’ve previously had to wake up at that time for jobs, 5:30 is a whole new time of the morning for me).

Baby burrito turns 9 months next week.
Highs: watching his personality developing, he’s trying so hard to crawl and is becoming much more mobile, loves his food
Lows: my own mental health took a dip last week. I have a postpartum back injury and physio doesn’t seem to be helping, I’ve done a few KIT days and my brain just doesn’t seem to work anymore, I feel like no one wants to help including my husband 🙃 I’d love some time to myself but it feels a long way off.

Haven't posted much on here yet but have been lurking 🕵️‍♀️ Baby is 9 weeks old,

Highs
- seeing those big smiles!
- he’s started doing little babbles and noises at me
- he’s sleeping so well at night

Lows
- he cries SO much and will only settle with me so I can’t get any respite atm
- PND is rearing its ugly head (have sought treatment)
- he keeps getting constipated poor sod

Sorry to hear you’re struggling with PND but well done on recognising it and seeking treatment ❤️

Baby Parsley was really struggling with constipation (he once went 5 days with no movement) but found baby massage has really helped - there are massages you can do on their feet and their tummy (all in a clockwise motion) and those really help (I don’t know how the feet one helped but IT DOES!!) I did it almost every day last week and he turned into a poop machine, not done it so much this week because too hot to be bothered and his movements have definitely slowed down. I know this sounds entirely woo-woo but it’s really helped him much more than just bicycle kicks and clockwise tummy rubs so maybe look into a baby massage course or see if there’s anything on YouTube?

I hope things pick up for you both ❤️

Also coming over from the pregnancy thread!
Baby is 5 weeks old today.
Highs
- so far he's pretty chilled out
- seeing my oldest (2) with him
- baby cuddles never get old!

Lows
- night feeds, we're down to just one but I am never not tired!
- forgetting how to do everything even though it's only been 2 years 😂

Thank you, it’s a tough thing to navigate PND and I’ve not really spoken about it much with family/friends as I feel abit of a fraud about it but the perinatal mental health nurses are fantastic!

I did a baby massage course which was great so have been doing lots of tummy massage but I havnt heard about the foot one?! Where would I find this?

Tomorrow morning I’ll take photos of the motions to do in my baby massage leaflet for you! But you trace a circle on your baby’s foot in a clockwise motion (we sing Round and Round the Garden Like a Teddy Bear while doing this one), and then there’s a pressure point on the ball of the foot sort of straight down from between the big toe and second toe and you put your thumb/finger there and press down and rotate in a clockwise motion. I hope those descriptions make sense, once I dig out my leaflet tomorrow and there are images hopefully it’ll help explain what I mean a bit more.

Feeling like I don’t have a space on this thread now as my little boy is nearly 16 months 😭

Highs:
-The toddler flop over my shoulder and giving the best cuddles
-When he puts his head into my legs and goes ‘ahhhh’ 🥹
-Watching him bum shuffle around doing his own thing, stacking random things on the table and being so proud of himself

Lows:
-The worries about his development are constant 😟 comparing and feeling like we haven’t done enough with him which is why he is ‘behind’
-The tantrums over everything, yesterday he had shut himself in the lounge and wouldn’t let me back in, cried when I opened the door and was trying to squeeze through whilst he’s trying to shut it still 🙃

But the highs definitely outweigh the lows and I would probably do it all again if we are lucky enough! 🩵

I’m still here and mine is 18 months 😂 he’s going to be the baby (or a boddler) for as long as possible.. at least until baby no.2 comes along as I’m just over 9 weeks pregnant
(but also he’ll still be my baby forever 😂)

I just saw a thing about the toddler flop while scrolling Tiktok and yes it’s the most adorable thing ever! I didn’t know there was a name for it but I love when mine does it too, it’s so cute 🥹

I felt the same about my 2 year old being behind, looking back he wasn't behind so to speak but I didn't know how to like teach a kid to speak and I really obsessed over his 2 year review and the fact he couldn't jump????
He started nursery in April and he's come on so much and it's really true that they just do stuff in their own time when they are ready to do it.
Yours is still a baby and I'm sure you're doing all you can, comparison is the thief of joy as they say and as hard as it is not to compare you've just got to remember your little one is doing exactly what they should be doing right now! ❤️

Also why are the bum shuffles so bloody cute!!!

Love calling him boddler too haha when I say baby I think can I refer to him as that anymore 😂 I am going to be that mum ‘ahhh how olds your baby’ ‘17’ 🤣🤣🤣 eeeek how exciting so will you have 2 under 2?! I’m not sure I could do it I always thought I wanted a close age gap but now I’m not so sure 🥲

As if I’m in the last category now on the poll before not wanting to leave 🥲😂 so mad to think I was in this thread from day one. anyone with babies who are 18 months or older children who can give me some advice? My baby YES BABY!🤣🤣🤣 is 18 months old and all I’m seeing is things he “should” be doing. He has been walking since 12 months, he runs so fast and has been for months, he can walk backwards, jump on a trampoline, climb ect. He’s very advanced in terms of his motor skills but in terms of speech and social skills I’m not so sure? I haven’t seen my health visitor since he was 14 months so I’m just looking for some advice/reassurance. He says mam, dad, yeah, peppa, go, baba. He’s very vocal he’s always babbling and he will try and copy some words you say but these are sort of the only consistent words he says. He doesn’t point, he won’t lead me to something he wants ect. If I tell him to bring me a toy he doesn’t, he won’t wave bye and he doesn’t role play with toys. Does this sound normal or should he be doing all these things? Sorry for the long post 🤣 hope you are all okay 🤎

I heard before that bum shufflers take longer to walk due to being able to see everything already they're not as low down as crawlers . So crawlers typically walk faster to see more where as bum shufflers can see it . They work smarter not harder
