I was at the show, brought along with workmates
Parts very funny
Some of the parts (eg the in-laws segment mentioned above) was cringe and a bit too try hard
The adoration for the crowd, especially a few diehards in the front row was mind blowing.
is she a comedian, I would say no
no more than any of us can sometimes randomly come out with something that’s pure comedy gold.
Is she selling out shows because she’s hilarious
No
it’s a media machine and the new age popularity of social media platforms and following numbers nowhere reflective of active followers or engagement.
someone will see something funny and book in response to that bringing a friend or two for a night and out. A percentage won’t be back again.
Her lack of engagement with local comedians or their lack of public support for her well I would say that many of them that have honed their craft the long hard way are hugely resentful and unsupportive of those that have shot to fame without the crafting along the way.
The social media route to stardom in particular.
These guys and gals have drove the length & breadth of the country on crap money or non at all to get themselves out there. Doing comedy clubs etc.
A sold out gig in the waterfront or an arena is an aspirational target for them.
Some of them on their podcast’s do make little sly digs … not about her in particular but in her style of fandom.
