Mammy Banter

She’s obviously decided a blazer and matching shorts suit her and decided to run with it. She’s been wearing one in every photo I’ve seen of her at the shows

in fairness she packed out the Waterfront. Am acquaintance went and thought it was hilarious 🤷‍♀️

Yes, it's a press release. Not a critical review.

Big difference, HUGE....
Well they’re mentioned in it

Someone was paid to write that PR. End of story.

That PR was sent out to all local and regional papers/online news sites about 10 days ago.

Maybe whoever bylined that article did go and see her, but to be a 'critic' I'd say would have to involve some expertise... or at least be a regular reviewer of stand up comedians...

half of what he has written has came straight from the PR which was sent out.

Yeah she did. Didn't see much about them..saw people post they were going but nothing after. Probably didn't want to say it was shite lol.
Anyone who writes a book is Sunday times best selling. Having this by your name is cringe at this point. Any one of us can go now and publish a book. It's not a bit deal anymore. Every influenza is doing it.

Same as a sell out tour...small venues that are easier to sell out. I wouldn't call what she does a career, but hey if she's happy and making money from it and people want to give her the money then each to their own.

Fair play putting herself out there yeah. I liked her wee sketches during lockdown but I feel shes worn out now. Same ol' tit. Nothing is original and if she isn't rehashing her own stuff she's copying other creators.
I can’t be doing with her,. That said a sell out tour is a sell out tour regardless. If I put on a show in a small venue, I’d be lucky to get 4 people there. Including the bar staff. And me.

Has she committed any other 'crimes' other than not aligning with your sense of humour?
Some of the stuff she does is funny, I zoned out and unfollowed about a year ago because every other video was about alcohol and wine and personally I found it hard to find the humour in alcohol dependency due to personal history. But I’m well aware that’s a me problem and a bit of an irrational reason to have taken a dislike to her

I disagree. It’s more like people are blindly supportive to people from their area, regardless of talent. There are many examples, especially in Derry, although this is not their thread.
I agree and by god some of the people supported are far from talented, take mickey Doherty for example hasn’t a note in his head but booked for party’s all the time

I couldn't disagree more. Derry is full to the brim with begrudgers - and the 'once shite gets up, it's hard to beat down' mentality.

I was at the show, brought along with workmates

Parts very funny 😄
Some of the parts (eg the in-laws segment mentioned above) was cringe and a bit too try hard
The adoration for the crowd, especially a few diehards in the front row was mind blowing.

is she a comedian, I would say no
no more than any of us can sometimes randomly come out with something that’s pure comedy gold.

Is she selling out shows because she’s hilarious
No
it’s a media machine and the new age popularity of social media platforms and following numbers nowhere reflective of active followers or engagement.
someone will see something funny and book in response to that bringing a friend or two for a night and out. A percentage won’t be back again.

Her lack of engagement with local comedians or their lack of public support for her well I would say that many of them that have honed their craft the long hard way are hugely resentful and unsupportive of those that have shot to fame without the crafting along the way.
The social media route to stardom in particular.
These guys and gals have drove the length & breadth of the country on crap money or non at all to get themselves out there. Doing comedy clubs etc.
A sold out gig in the waterfront or an arena is an aspirational target for them.

Some of them on their podcast’s do make little sly digs … not about her in particular but in her style of fandom.

@Justherefortittle i’d imagine that Paddy Raff is another one who falls within that category then. Though he seems to try his hardest to get in with the old school comedy circles.

He probably would be in that set to a point

Though also I honestly think he doesn’t really integrate very well with most of them and doesn’t try to get in with them as he doesn’t need them - he’s made him own fame.

Seen him recently at the Tuesday night comedy club at the Empire - was pure fluke as we already were going before the lineup was announced. A good night
