That’s not how it works. It doesn’t only count as gaslighting if the victim falls for it for goodness sake. The treatment is still the same no matter how the victim reacts to it.the victim of gaslighting starts to feel unsure about their perceptions of the world and even wonder if they are losing their sanity
Just because your mate says "sorry you think I hurt you" doesn't make them a gas lighter. What makes one a gas lighter is if the victim questions their own reality. I know what gaslighting is all too well having experienced it before.
You severely underestimate the "question your own reality/ feel unsure about perceptions of the world" bit. This whole thing is about heavy manipulation not just some head behaviour like we've seen.
He can say "that didn't happen" or "it happened differently to how you remember" - that's not gaslighting until the victim believes the abuser's word over their own.
What you’re saying is like stating that giving someone a slap is only violent if the victim says it hurt.
