I thought Steve and Kate mentioned he went into care and was taken under the wing of a local police officer. It was in an earlier ep this series. Need to check though as I might be misremembering.

Jo was born in 1979 from her records, so I think we can rule out Jackie as her mother.
Plus, Steve said 'HE is identified' which means whoever it is on that page is a male, not female

What you're talking about isn't a common occurance. It's a leap that the audience would never accept.
His other children with a white woman are quite clearly mixed race though. I just don’t think they would write a white child with a black dad, it just wouldn’t make any sense to the story if we’re supposed to think he’s actually her dad.

Just looked it up, she’s 42. So think we can probably rule Jackie out.

I wondered if she was Andrew Laverty's daughter from a previous relationship.
His DNA might have been taken to exclude him as a suspect.

It's common enough. A friend I went to school with her mum was dark skinned and father white. My friend was as white as I am!

So theory wise we know

-it’s a nominal (someone with a caution, criminal record or been arrested DNA stored on the PNC) - meaning it’s not a serving officer
Could it be an officer that’s then gone on to have a record for being involved with the OCG? I’m not all clued up on the terminology (obviously).

Quite honestly, it could be almost any male we've seen on LoD since 2012 which makes it all the more exciting. I'm eager to see how this fits into the story.

I'm sorry but just because you personally know someone doesn't make it 'common enough' for it to fly in a show as big as Line of Duty without it destroying its reputation.

My point is it happens. It's possible. But given the ages of these characters the theory isn't possible anyways. So calm your jets and move on

Steve says he was fostered. However, his mum is still listed as his next of kin on his file. Could this just be his story for the interview though. I thought it was pretty straight forward that he was in the OCG from where he grew up, he was already in it before he was supposedly fostered. We also don't know how much Simon Bannerjee actually took him under his wing, could just be part of his back story to sound good for the interview. I think we're thinking too much into this one tbh.
My money is on MiroslavQuite honestly, it could be almost any male we've seen on LoD since 2012 which makes it all the more exciting. I'm eager to see how this fits into the story.
