Back in the days before social media, when beauty editors worked on magazines, I’m sure they still had promotional events/holidays/freebies etc and we (the readers) only ever heard about the products being promoted. But now that we have a bird’s eye view of the excessive events and money being splashed around, it makes me a little bit bitter. The cost of these fancy events and junkets is built into the cost of the products that humble little Jane Doe like me purchases. I dunno, maybe cut out all the influencer/beauty writer BS and make the products a smidge more affordable? Because I never buy products that have been shilled by influencers. I don’t believe for a second that they genuinely believe in most of the products that they hock, they’re just in it for the goodie bags, dinners, lunches, holidays and photo ops.
