Good post. My listening time to LBC has reduced since Steve left for sure. From about an average of 2 hours a day to about half an hour. It's just as you say, a wash-cycle of doom and gloom, rinse and repeat presenters having their own on air therapy sessions. Andrew Castle made me laugh on Sunday when he said something like "I know I'm supposed to be outraged and angry about something but I'm too tired". I think he spoke for most listeners there.

I listen to podcasts that cover my interests. I listen to Talksport between 1 and 4 most days if H & J are on. World Service News. If there's a big political event I might listen to a bit of Marr on LBC. I'm listening to JOB less and less these days but if I'm around I'll listen to the first 5 minutes and if there's no mention of his book or twitter I'll stick with it for a bit.

Did he really say that? :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I feel you Andrew! That's one reason why I listen very infrequently now. It's an angry station for angry people.

As for alternative LBC listening, I've become more music based. I go between, Greatest Hits Radio, Boom and Boom lite, Serenade, Heart 70's or 80's. It very much depends on the time of day and my mood.

I miss Steve terribly. He was such a staple of my day.

.
It's 'the law of unintended consequences' in action. Fall out with Steve Allen and destabilize the entire LBC schedule for months. Why don't the clowns fall to their knees and and beg Steve to go back?

I'll never stop missing him. I've had to stop listening to Steve Allen The Whole Show because, for some reason, I receive two shows simultaneously talking over one another, so I'm permanently tuned in to A Little Bit Extra with the volume turned to zero once my day starts so that I'm not forever in the Groundhog Day of February 17th.

Having had it on constantly from 4am every day for donkey's years I no longer listen to LBC at all, but I can't find any other radio station to replace it. When I try to go back to LBC within the first few words you always get Brexit or Suella Braverman and I know I'd be bored shitless by the turgid LBC diet so.........click.........and off it goes again.

Radio 4 is getting as bad, in desperation I tried Premier Radio because they don't do politics or speak in that ghastly urgent and bullying way that is taking over, many of the discussions are very interesting but the basic belief doesn't vibe with me. What are you, my fellow tattlers, listening to?

I still enjoy LBC but find myself tuning in more selectively.

Andrew Marr is my goto news hour, he's always on the button and always pulls in the top guests on his stories of the day.

At weekends it's Matt Frei and David Lammy when he's being balanced as he was this weekend.

I also enjoy Andrew Castle (please don't shoot me!) I find him quite balanced and able to tackle both sides of argumemts such as the coronation policing debate this weekend.

karma4klattie, if you're looking for something calmer but still well informed, I find Times Radio a good listen.

Like FenellaTheWitch I also surf the music stations. I find Kisstory a good background listen and am looking forward to Vernon Kay starting on Radio 2 next week.

Ian Payne announced that they are a bit "short staffed" at LBC just now.
Have you broken curfew at Brinsworth House again?
It's well known that all forms of speech radio are forbidden there, instead it's a constant diet of Max Bygraves & Don Estelle over the tannoy system.
Is it true that all the HSL riser/recliner chairs have built-in speakers??

Give my regards to Steve x

You've got someone who was a loyal servant and worker of yours for over 40 years, who'd work 7 days a week if asked and bring in the biggest audience of any radio station in his time slot who appears to have got binned for speaking the biological truth and fell foul of the dystopian victim culture we tragically find ourselves in. You cancelled him. You reap what you sew.

Yeah, Times Radio is a good listen. I actually find TalkTv a good listen too at times. Vanessa Feltz is decent and Kevin O'Sullivan when he's on. A few others I enjoy too. GB News has radio now too.

What's Carol McGiffin said that got her fired from Loose Women? Did she mention something on the podcast with Nick A?

There's hints in the press that it's something to do with her controversial views on Covid, vaccines etc etc. I can imagine Loose Women wouldn't like that. She has said she couldn't sign a contract they offered her ... I'm guessing they may have asked her to stay away from those views and she said no.

Maybe she pissed off some bigwig at ITV and they found a way to shift her. That's usually how it works there isn't it? Or maybe she said something that upset Mr Can't Be Sacked Schofield.

She does like to follow her own agenda. She did the Saturday mid-morning slot on LBC but then Global bought the station. She opted out of their more news based policy and left.

I am bemused how Carol McGiffin and Nick Abbott are such good friends. They couldn't be further apart with their views. I bet they have some very interesting discussions 😅

They have known each other for years and if you listen to the podcast they do they do make each other laugh. However, they are very aware that politically they are poles apart and have safe words 'sausages and dingleberries' which they shout the minute the very into controversial territory.

I've always liked Carol it's just a shame, IMO, that she's gone down this conspiracy route. She said that British hospitals were being filled with French patients to make Covid look worse than it was. Maybe it's that kind of thing Loose Women don't like!!

I feel the same. If it's true Carol has gone down a conspiracy theory rabbit hole it's weird because I've always thought she was quite bright. She does pop up on GB New now and again with Dan Wootten, which is a bit of a red flag for me. But I guess it's an easy couple of quid ... even so, if you lay down with dogs you tend to get fleas.

Wasn't she married to Chris Evans briefly? She must have a few connections-and possible fleas- from that association?

They definitely wanted to control what mcgiff says outside of loose women. I'm sure they gave her a contract knowing full well she wouldn't go for it.

The number of seasoned media people who have lost their jobs in recent years continues to rack up.

She's best with knickers, you could tell he was getting rage with her saying "Kate Middleton is really down to earth and hard working" 😆 sausages and dingleberries!!! 😵

Look, I quite like Carol (or did when I used to listen to her more often than I have done in recent years) but the 'ladette' culture that she and others eschewed back in the 90s really hasn't done her any favours. Carol looks older than my mum who is in her mid 70s! :( (Chris Evans has always looked like tit, so it's a bit harder to criticize his looks). ps. The Loose Women format is fundamentally flawed anyway ... bleeping pointless show.

Cheers for the suggestion of Kisstory which I have not listened to for some time. Partly I think because I used to have it on in the car and I drive much less now.

In the same vein I have been enjoying listening to Absolute Radio where you can pick decades and I have been enjoying the 80s again. Their choice of music is wider than you might think from their usual rock bias.

The beginning of their latest podcast is quite funny. It starts with both Nick and Carol swearing their heads off so lots of bleeps!! They had been doing their podcast for about 30 minutes when Carol realised she hadn't pressed the record button :ROFLMAO:

Nick annoys me the way he calls Wills and Kate, Wills and Wotsit. He may not be a fan of the Royals but it does seem a bit misogynistic to never refer to her by name.
